well firstly the needle would just fall apart as he said the bonds just brake and when it hits the earth it would just be like a few bombs like the size of a party cracker and if it got to the earth crust it would just atomize into just iron partials and bc the friction it just explode about 10 to 20m into the earth and if it hit you, you would just explode (the reason of explode is bc of the atoms torching) there you is that what you was looking for and also the chance of the needle coming back is so small bc our planet is so small when you thonk about it

I’m not a physicist but I can’t see how this needle could possibly do anything other than just simply going through the earth, or at least partially through. It just doesn’t make any sense to me that it would cause some huge explosion or anything similar to a nuclear bomb.
Action lab has a realistic and accurate take on the same concept. There is a"slight" exaggeration as to the actual amount of energy released. The energy released would be closer to the energy of the fuel of a jet engine, and probably not even that much because most of the energy would be drained through the atmosphere in the sky.

Nope. It means he probably did, but most viewers are not so interested in knowing it.
The calculation is actually quite simple, it's the standard equation for kinetic energy that everyone learns in high school, it's just elevated to really high numbers because of the velocity.
The kinetic energy for a 3 grams needle travelling at the speed of light would be 135 Tera-Joules, compared to the Fat Man bomb with 84 Tera-Joules. So the comparison is accurate enough.
Extremely simple formula...
