Husqvarna 435 chainsaw, tear down and rebuild

  • Did a tear down and rebuild on my Husky 435 saw, this is the second time to do this on this saw. There is a lack of info on this topic for the 435.
    Suggested tools: 4mm and 5mm ball end allens and piston stop.
    This total project took me about 1 hour and 15 minutes to do. Not show are things like me spraying parts down with brake cleaner, looking for some tool, the bolt that dropped and went under my lift and took me several minutes to find.
    Saw's backstory... was running weak when cutting up some logs, finished the job and put saw away, 2 weeks later went to use it, no start. First I figured the carb was messed up so I rebuilt it with an OE kit, no change. Then I find that the compression was low and the piston and cylinder were damaged. New OE piston and cylinder kit installed, saw fired up and ran pretty good, but pretty lean. I double checked the carb, it seems good, so it looks like I've got some sort of leak.
    I know from the first time I took it apart that the rubber intake between the carb and cylinder is in good condition. So I'm thinking maybe the gasket that is molded to the body of the saw for the cylinder isn't sealing up as good as it should, so I'll add a little sealant.
    For more information on small engine repair, I suggest "donyboy73":

    When I first started this project, several of his chainsaw videos, while not specific to the 435, gave me a good overview of the basics.

    I just put a brand new trigger on mine. Just one screw, a pin, and pry the plastic apart a little. I'm glad I didn't have to take it all apart. I like the saw. It's light and does what I need. It has the anti-vibration bar and that's nice. I put an 18" Oregon bar on mine and a super-fast chain.

    Thank's a lot for this video. Very informative. I will use it as a reference since I own the same saw and do my own repairs. I also own a Jonsered CS2152C and even if it's a lot more powerful, I end up using my 435 most of the time because it's so light weight and agile. And pretty good music btw.

    Great video mate thanks a lot! I have the same chainsaw and i need to remove the carby as it's flooding. It sat for about a year with old fuel in it so it's a good guess the carby is blocked and needs a rebuild. Thanks again mate!!

    @jef4130 What kit did you use on this? Are they all the same? Just want to make sure I get a good kit. I don't want to do it over.

    Reviving the video. I took the cover off the chain arm on the R side. There's a circular spring that gave me issues that goes around the chain drive. Now I can't get the cover back on. Is this normal? I ask because it looked like yours just fell right into place.

    That’s not a rebuild. You didn’t even change bearings or crankcase seals while you were there. I don’t know exactly why you were doing all of this and didn’t do those two important things.

    Do you prefer to change piston with piston ring ? Did you try to change only the ring on the old piston? What is your opinion?

    • @jef4130
      @jef4130  5 лет назад +1

      The original parts were damaged and the OE kit came with a new ring so I used it. The kits are fairly cheap so at the price point it would be stepping over dollars to save dimes if a new ring wasn't purchased and installed.
      My opinion... LOTR movies were lame.

      @@jef4130 , thanks for replying, well it's a brand new spark plug as for compression, I would not know how to check that

    How long you wait after aplication of permatex ,to rejoin cylynder and crankcase?

    • @jef4130
      @jef4130  6 лет назад +1

      I think it was maybe 45 to 60 minutes from when I applied the sealant to firing up the engine. I only ran the engine for maybe 10 seconds then didn't use the saw until the following day. From the Permatex website on the Ultra Black, "Silicone dries in 1 hour, and fully cures in 24 hours, at 70˚F - 50% relative humidity. Allow more time in cold weather." Saw is still going strong, fires right up. I just applied the sealant, thinned it out and apply, so no real wait times there.

    Did you just make this video because you wanted people to know that you know how to take apart your chainsaw? You don't say anything about sizes of anything location... fully informative 😆

    I'm having trouble with mine. It starts, idle, then die. Spark plug seems good and doing fire. Could it be a bad coil or carburetor problem?

    • @dustinearley5769
      @dustinearley5769 7 лет назад +2

      Had the same problem, When you use gasoline with ethenol it will gum up the carb. To fix it i got a carb rebuild kit and i have not used gas with ethenol in any of my small power equipment for over three years and no carb issues on anything.

      Yannick Courteau, I’m no expert but my weed eater did that a lot. I found that if you give it full throttle while and after starting and then let it idle it will stay running

    • @fireman4426
      @fireman4426 5 лет назад

      Old comment but for new ppl reading it could also need a carb adjustment or like the one guy said full throttle about 30secs to get it to warm up. I am worried about a cold seizure so i just rev mine a few times for a few secs. if it starts acting up like that. If you ever get a new carb its going to be most likely an adjustment.
