  • The Saint Louis Zoo's 3-month-old red-legged seriema chicks try their beaks at a game of wiffle ball. Seriemas are predator birds. The way they slam the ball is an instinctive action and similar to how they would kill prey in the wild. The three chicks named Earl, Claire and Tina were hand-raised by zookeepers behind the scenes. At about 2 months old, they started taking daily exercise walks with their keepers through the Bird House before it opened to visitors.
The seriemas can be seen at the Bird House.

Abby there are really good zoos out there like this one. Many zoos keep their animals stimulated and help to protect endangered species. However, there are also some bad ones out there like that Argentinian zoo with that depressed polar bear as it was torture for him to be in such a hot climate. That is of course not okay but sadly, people see a few bad zoos and immediately go and make false claims that ALL zoos are bad.
