Unless you're particularly interested in biology, paleontology, the Cenozoic, Pleistocene, or any of those niche fields, you probably aren't even aware of Terrorbirds. Which is a shame, but still.
@@TheropodHunter Well, yes. But terror birds didn’t eat small things as they couldn’t make sharp turns. Their skulls also weren’t designed to take the stress of literally banging things to the ground. Other than that I’m sure they could.
He is the closest relative to terror birds but Seriemas are part of Cariamidae the last living family of the order Cariamiformes which includes the family Phorusrhacids (Terror Birds). So it is the closest relative because they are the same order but the Seriemas are not in the same family as Terrorbirds and are not
You should see how the shrikes are like. Shrikes are also known as butcherbirds because of their feeding habits. They impale their prey (mice, insects, etc) on big thorns or barbed wire to save it for later.
Actually some of the terror birds did kill some of their smaller prey like that . But when they went for larger prey, they used their massive beaks like an axe to attack, injure and kill their prey . Or they used their huge talons to kick them to death .
They aren’t too closely related. These are Cariamidae, the order including extinct Terror birds. Secretary birds are order accipitrimorphae, closer related to hawks. I think the reason these birds hunt with beaks is how the terror birds were theorised to hunt with, while secretary birds use talons, more akin to hawks and eagles.
Such an underrated bird, this is basically the only living terror bird left, most people probably dont know that.
This could give us insight into how Phorusrhacids actually behaved too.

I love the fact that I see those birds on wild everyday when on my father's farm. They're amazing and so beatiful

The brutal movements still remain as a legacy of its ancestors, also the way it runs
You mean, the Terror birds?
You can definitely see the shadow of their ancient cousins, the Terror Birds, in how they move.
Leave them on a island as the only predators, and some prey too. And in a few thousand years, we'll get Terror birds again!
Or give them growth hormones and make them grow bigger faster like they do to chickens in farms
@@idominusrex5952 farm chickens on growth hormones grow too big for their bodies to handle and get overweight so they can't even walk.
We never learned from Jurrasic Park, did we? 😅

Ikr, they're my favorite south american bird!
They're also the last living relatives of the giant Terrorbirds (which also belonged to Cariamiformes)
I was both watching this and another video of classical music, that was intense!
Mary Ella Thank you for watching ~ Paul

Now picture a giant version of this and you got a terror bird
Wonderful footage! :-)
that's one of the cruelest ways to kill a prey I've ever seen
You ever seen someone prepare frog? They just grab the legs and start swinging lol
You should see how the shrikes are like. Shrikes are also known as butcherbirds because of their feeding habits. They impale their prey (mice, insects, etc) on big thorns or barbed wire to save it for later.
dang, they still keep the movements for a shit million of years

More like a Terror Bird

Look at the way he kills his prey? Its like an "ecco" from the prehistoric terror bird..

Amazing footage, where did you film these birds (ie the kookaburra, seriema, etc)?
+Carson Vogt Thank you - The seriema and kookaburra were filmed at a local bird sanctuary called Paradise Park.
So a deinonychus but it kills its prey even more brutally… Nice!
We just found new evidence how T Rex really hunted
oh crap that just made it more horrifying-
Probably only for small things they couldn't get their jaws around.
Eh, more like Terror Birds.
Woah, are they related to the secretary bird? they look quite similar but apparently their hunting method is with their beak instead of their talons

Meep meep!
Reminds me of a secretary bird that picks up and bashes their prey instead of kicking it.
