Track bashing is great fun. So long as you have a hard standing.
Actually the Chieftain was easier than Challenger because you could turn it on tickover so it was much easier to wind the track back on.
88-92 links on Cr if I remember correctly!
    Ex QRIH.

This is the most polite track change I have ever seen -Ex QRH

I think we did 1.5 tanks in a working day so two days for the whole Troop.
    Brings back memories.
    Where’s the crate though?
Beer and track bashing goes hand in hand?

I don’t know the Cr 2 track but Cr 1 was much simpler with circlips and easy to graunch the pin back in with a crow bar and lump hammer
    .
Do you still use the half track technique as a get you home emergency?
Seen it done once and the CS made it back to the Sqn hide. Tank crew is an art form definitely. I hear now that each regiment only has a Sqn of tanks which they share?
    The rest are in pres?
    What utter utter bollox.
In my time it was all four sqns down the tank park hands on every day Monday to Friday
How are the crews supposed to learn without tanks?
Do you still use chalk on the bazooka plates to calculate the pull figures etc?
I note no Hgv canvas and frame on the Caarv and the lack of bunk beds on the back decks.
In Baor we had comfort down to a science.

Never knew the CRAARV had the same pattern wheels as the gun tank.

They used up all the old stock before moving onto the new challenger 2 wheels, suspension and final drives.

Basic was ATR Pirbright for me in 2004 and phase 2 was Bordon in 2005 bud although I did visit Arborfield a few times in 2005....

Unfortunately not. Truth is I'm not sh*t....filled the position off sgt, ssgt plenty of times. On the last major exercise in Europe I filled in for a warrant officers role and was responsible for controlling recovery in two countries at the same time......but still no promotion. It's as simple as my face doesn't fit 👀

lol the amount of times I've split a track you become numb to those god dam top hats haha. Off the top of my head I'm not to sure but i'd say each track weighs about 2 ton.
