- Apps have changed the way we communicate, shop, play, interact and travel and their phenomenal popularity has presented possibly the biggest business opportunity in history. George gives you exclusive access to the secrets behind the success of the select group of apps that have achieved billion-dollar success.
George Berkowski is an entrepreneur who has built businesses in manned space flight, online dating, transportation and mobile apps. His new venture is IceCream ~ a Camera app that never runs out space (and a lot more fun features).
He is one of the minds behind the internationally successful taxi hailing app Hailo where he led the product team until September 2013. George studied rocket science and economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and business at the École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris. He was Chairman of MIT’s Enterprise Forum in the UK and is heavily involved in the UK and US startup scenes. George now divides his time between London and Silicon Valley.

1) Apple menu, select System Preferences.
2) Select Accessibility.
3) Under Audio, Select the Play stereo audio as mono checkbox.
To become a billion dollar company, you have to be disruptive. Develop something that addresses an issue that has not been solved yet.

This is one of the most underrated TEDx Talks.
the richest man that's ever lived was named mansa musa
but back then they had a barter system and his wealth was mostly gold and salt, this guy had straight up dollars
it does matter because mansa musa was a king that owned all propery, rockafeller (prob spelled it wrong) made it through buisiness
greatest nation ewww America is corrupted with no morality left. You shame your founding fathers. Very sad just wars and even the people in your country don't love it anymore or its core principles. Diverse nation but yet so racial segregated.
no it depends on where you live. Many different cultures in the US. I live in Northern Virginia which is close to DC, and is very wealthy. The high school i went to had students whos parents average income was $330,000.
Pretty diverse with asians and whites, very friendly community. Everyone worked hard, and there was very little crime. Most of us are still patriotic, but there are always haters out there wanting to bring down whoever is at the top
The point is what was stated in the video is not true. The richest documented man that ever lived was Mansa Musa from Mali, African, Fact! The end.
Nearly 6 years later, I'm playing the game whilst watch/listening to this.
who else is ready to take over the tech industry
Kalifo I’m with you 🤣
I will do it one day bro
Can you help am a newbie to coding
@@Reamyking What technologies and languages are you interested in ?
me
I've never had an interest in coding, but creating an app is always something I wanted to do. Never knew ppl who coded except my pops. Nice to know there are other alternatives, cause getting through the first page of a javascript just never works out for me lol
The last video I watched of this guy the audio was on the right ear, now it's left, I like the balance.
I spent half the video tweaking my headphones🎧 wires...till I read the comments 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️😂😂😂
That’s definitely not your username
But also, get new headphones.
wowow, me too. and this is the first comment I saw and I burst out of laugh
On today’s episode of “Where Quarantine has brought me”....
Not just ideas, but a viable business plan and making my dreams come true.
he can make billion dollar apps but he cant fix the audio on his videos
Spilla Tv that's an interesting statement, I'm pretty sure he doesn't watch his videos after uploading them on RUclips
It's not his job to make sure that ted uploads his talk properly... I seriously doubt he even have access to this channel.
Spilla Tv Wilson Sebastião da Silva
LOL

, You can buy a super expensive Ducati but still they can't figure out how to win MotoGP races. You can buy a $20k analog watch and the second hand isn't even directly at 0. You can buy a brand new superbike and the clutch levers aren't even flush at full retract. etcs.
Although stories of successful apps were extremely oversimplified, there were some interesting ideas worth to think about. When entering a market, you either need a product that way more better than all exiting ones or you need something completely new. From myself I may add, that you also need to ensure that some big tech giant will not steal your idea, and will not implement it, due to its unlimited resources, in a better way, taking all your users away.
MY LEFT HEADPHONE LOVED THIS VIDEO GREAT UPLOAD

A sort of fix for the left audio issue: Go to Realtek HD audio manager, go to sound effects, select a high reverb mode and adjust Left/Right volume to the right. :)
Please fix the audio so it plays in both headphone speakers.
yeah, the editor really fucked up the sound

+artica rental, after seeing so many comments of course someone would break their set because of this video which is why there should be some mandatory warning about the right side being off
1:18 John D Rockefeller actually died May 23, 1937. His peak net worth was $400B in 1913, in 2017 inflation-adjusted dollars according to Wikipedia. Perhaps one reason we'll never see anyone as rich as Rockefeller, is the US government did not collect income taxes until 1913, long after Rockefeller had made much of his money. When he died, his tangible net worth is estimated to have been $26M, he had given the vast bulk of his earnings to philanthropy.
Thanks sir for your great speech!
I like this video. It's the motivation I needed.

great video... this is the future :)

This is brilliant, thank you!
Excellent explanations. I like this video a lot. Points the importance of Apps today in our digital world.
I am thinking about a new type of restaurants : eating-spots,
in eating-spots, food keeps changing, chefs also rotate,
this is opposed to current restaurants,
thanks to this rotation of food and chefs, eating-spots are way more powerful than restaurants,
along with that, there is an app
people vote for the food that will be cooked in the next days,
menu is influenced by the live input of the people via an app
It might sound like a joke but might turn into something big😂
I would defined use this hypothetical app
Great video. Thanks George.
That was a fine talk. Great!
jesus fucking christ.. watched another video about this guy and it was right ear only... now this video is left ear only :/

New drinking game: take a drink every time he says "actually". I lost count at 30.
Good info. I like your style of presentation
Excellent statistics, I'll be using this info in my presentation.
1:30 yea right, no need to rewrite history Sir, Musa Mansa already holds that spot. Other than that, good insightful material..i will buy your book on AMZ today!
"I think the presentation was good. It gives one an idea of where ideas could take a person. Persistence is key. I believe it's about execution too. Perhaps George could mention which specialists one needs to build an app and how to launch it in his next video. Do look out for my apps in the near future fellow people".

my left ear loved this
Thanks for the video ,made me change the way I used to think
very good talk, thank you! Great down to earth analysis that stays away from the media hype of 'the next big thing built by a 12 year old'
Mansa munsa was worth a trillion dollars during his lifetime he’s the richest man to ever live.
Not actually it was under 500 billion dollars
Nah he is worth only 400 billion. Augustus Caesar is worth 4.6 trillion dollars today
Gonna come back here when my startup that, I still need to start, reaches a trillion dollars in valuation
Very good and much informatieve thanks for the direction and inspiration
Hello Emily
My left ear thoroughly enjoyed your eloquence.
There is nothing about how to build an app
Is more about why to build one
Interesting
true, Title should be change to Why need to build app.
It's based in his book by the same name..... However his app has not reached the billion dollar mark... I hope it does
The focus is on Billion Dollar App idea, it’s not a Tech tutorial @ TedTalks
You can learn it on Udemy :)
Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, "Hold my beer".
Fantastic Video. Great stuff.
Great presentation
How do you monetize an app without slowing it down, making ads intrusive, or allowing the app to feel tacky 🤔
Solution to those = next Billion dollar app.
6 mil subs and 0 capable audio technicians.....
Rust3dtinman Richards jnhgjmhy4
The person recording the video was probably back up as the primary person who was supposed to do this had problems. It's either this or nothing or they made it like this for psychological reasons to make you think differently than if everything was how it was "supposed" to be.
Thats 12 million subs more which makes it over 18M subs now in 2 years time since u last commented.
yousof mansoory now 19
Now 28million sub tho
respect to the guy who is reading a book in the audience
Awesome! Now my left ear is ready to build a billion dollar app
The richest man in history is actually mansa musa
Thats actually not true. Rothschild is.
Rothschild isn't a person, its the family name of a large grouping of wealthy descendants of an early banker.
WELL...ACTUALLY.....ME IS THE RICHEST GUY ON THE INTERNET...TOTAL WEALTH EXCEEDS ...10 BILLION...
nikodemus1able
If I am not wrong Mansa Musa is worth about $400 Billion of today
he messed up economies on his way to hajj by giving away gold to people.
King Mansa Musa I of the Mali Empire was history's richest person. Some people just don't do their homework.
not comparable
presidents and kings don't count because that is not a personal net worth that is more of a collective net worth.
+That T-shirt Guy, You can't take that wealth with you when you die but all the interactions that happened because of it you do..
That T-shirt Guy you may have done your homework but you might need a lesson in logic, while mansa munsa may have been the “richest person” back then they had a trading and bartering type system which makes it hard to compare him to a man with physical currency.
Actually, it's not. It depends on wether you take the full amount of his wealth or the adjusted amount. If we're talking about the actual amount, then it's Rockefeller ($300+ Billion). If we consider the adjusted amount due to inflation, it's Mansa Musa.
Really great video!! :) Keep it going
The last sentence is the most powerful.
Jeff Bezos watched this and was like “ bet hold my beer honey “
Mansa Musa was the richest man that ever lived but great Ted talk thanks ! 🙏🏽🔥❤️
True thank you, he must do a home work
Dude an iam here stuck in morocco starving in a fkn small town with good mobile apps develpment skills and app ideas that are unique and proven to work brfore
idk why theres so many negative comments. this video is phenomenal.
I disagree with the point when he talks about the age average of founders, you can also make it when you are younger or older. If your idea solves the real world problems no one would ask you about if you experienced or build teams before.. Youth should't be discouraged.
true
Do you understand what average means? :D
Yeah also remember how long he says it takes, so of course they started away a young age, start now! Also hes just throwing out average numbers
Why disagree with facts, its not like that's what he believes or came up with
mono audio is the bane of my existance >:'(
my left ear really enjoyed this
Great research...
Clickbait, no? I'm not sure what this video added...other than an anthology of a few big apps
@Alan Is there any successful app without some sort of anomaly? I think not.
He actually brought a huge value. You just need to learn how to listen.
all this guy is trying to say in sweet words is "don't loose hope and keep on thinking for new ideas" and when you bridge the gap between technology and human behavior certainly you will find great ideas
Awesome Talk
Let us engage the youth and utalise their energy through financial education and business ideas.
Mansa Musa was the richest man in history that ever lived!
This is some good info. However the richest person who ever lived was Mansa Musa not rockerfella
There are probably richer people but it was when Antarctica wasn't covered in snow.
That weird feeling when you think your ear piece is broken because Ted X uploads poor quality videos
There is something wrong with my billion dollar headphone
My left ear is motivated
Superb talk. Thank you Mr. Berkowski!
@David Walker there is no doubt. Thank you for the relevant information.
left ear billion dollar app .......... done ....

Most of the people who watch this will NEVER Build anything in their life because they focus on "Complaining about the Sound" than "Focusing on the Valuable Insights".
Knowing where to focus your attention is the FIRST Key to Success.
I thought my headset was faulty but quickly realised it wasn't after visiting the comment section.
Am at only 1:40 and his lack of vision is depressing, he said we won’t ever see a richer person than Rockefeller. But humanity has still many new markets to explore.
last time I heard this guy my right ear got all the love now its my left ear getting all the love
Why are there no keys on those pie charts? Those graphs are useless, come on man!
I’m getting confused about something when it comes to building a billion dollar app or website😕. Must I build a company after it is becoming a billion dollar app😕🤔?
What are the things I can do to keep track of my app growth like what are the employees and the job they will get engaged in after building the company???
That was pretty damn inspiring...
He wasn’t the first or richest person tht ever lived, “MANSA MUSA” was and still is..
Audio can be fixed by slightly removing the headphone jack out, try if it works for you.
Shashwat Pandey
Nice. But it gets quieter when I do that.
Tried it. Didn’t work with my bluetooth headphones... Any advice on how to solve this?
Thanks God! My speaker is fine!

and just realized Jeff bezos is set to be a trillionare soon
