  • After crushing 18650 Panasonic GA and Samsung 25r cells with a hydraulic press at half charge...nothing happened. But when we tried same trick with cells fully charged and even over charged... fireworks. Testing is to understand the cells better so that it can hep us to construct packs that are more fire safe.

I think it shows that 18650s are safe as long as you don't put them in a hydraulic press.

Nice Test .Lithium and Water is always a nice combination simular to Natrium and Water ;-)

No respirator? Don't these produce Hydrogen fluoride when they vent/burn? It turns to acid in your lungs and ruins them

cool video, camera man needs to watch the focus though, I like his jumper but I'm more interested in the battery being squished.

this should be shown to everyone who uses a Vape, as a warning to be careful, also a reason for me to build a battery from potted lifepo4 bricks rather than 18650 style canisters

Quality 18650s are very safe... Until you press them like in the video

I'm not sure whether or not some electric bike companies use Lithium Polymer cells in their battery packs but I know that that cell chemistry is extremely unstable. So just for safety reasons I avoid those at all costs. I know RC ( radio control ) batteries are made with those. I've seen a lot of RC fires.

Hi, I want to buy battery pack with Sanyo GA cells. Anyone knows if China made GA is any worse than Japan made?

not worse....but still have to be cautious what you get is authentic

For pity sake, at least use a blast shield that is solid (that is to say without pattern cut-outs)... And leather gloves.
    But I liked it.
    Cheers,
