Dark Swarm casts a cloud over an area which prevents both friendly and enemy units (but not structures) under the cloud from taking damage from ranged attacks. Units under the cloud may still be damaged from splash effects. Lurker, firebat, and reaver attacks are not affected by the cloud. Units outside the cloud may still be hit from ranged attacks originating from inside the cloud.
If anyone was going to come back from that, it was jaedong. Jangbi almost had even bases and complete map control the whole time. Mistake was letting jaedong expand like 3 times for jangbi's 1 expand.
Even though I like executor JangBi very much, Jaedong is also a very good person (not only a great player), so I'm not sad after *SPOILER* the protoss lost. JangBi has also put really great pressure on Jaedong, so it was a great close game. And he was having fun too. So, a really rare great game to watch.
lol that egg and also the gg timing is so perfect right when the two control groups of lurkers burrow next to all of his archons ... great game love zvp
@Ko8e8 not just this map. I'm saying overall. Typically its zvp favors zerg, pvt favors protoss, tvz favors terran. Obviously that changes with player skill/ map/ etc
@BloodKnightXII and will be, there are HoTS and LotV to be released, later balance changes. SC2 is very young so there's no point comparing it to bw as the game isn't full yet.
@ChronicRecords A sport is an organized, competitive, entertaining, and skilful activity requiring commitment, strategy, and fair play, in which a winner and loser can be defined by objective means.
@kuukiyomenaihito my initial thoughts regarding the PvZ balance is that Zerg is a bit more favored in the match up. Unless someone brings up a convincing point of what the Protoss can do to stop a Zerg who plays perfectly. If Protoss and Zerg both play optimally with no mistakes, who would win? I currently believe Zerg would. if zerg controls their units perfectly, dodging storms, etc, compared to protoss predicting movements, and babysitting each unit to make sure they stay alive longer.
Why don't brood war players cast Ensnare on the Archon/Zealot army 28:49 let your units escape 29:17 split the army in two 29:35 split the army in two/ force the player to engage up the ramp 29:49 when the archons retreat you could have sniped some with your hydra/lurker
@mognite i watched the video and it does display a case where protoss can keep the zerg down, but you're counting on the fact that the speedlot aggression would do dmg, if it didn't bisu would be behind and it would be 4v2 base ZvP. So if you assume that the speedlot works, only then protoss can keepzerg under control. if protoss can force zerg to make a mistake and find a crack in zerg's defense then he can win, otherwise if zerg plays optimally, protoss can't do much harassment.
@Lakegogo lol you're calling Jangbi young? You don't make a lot of reavers against ling/lurker/defiler. You'll just get constantly out-positioned by a more mobile army. If you go shuttle tech to carry the reavers then you risk the chance of getting taken out by scourge. Jangbi's army was very powerful but it had little AA capability.
this is what i notice alot in protoss users too... they tend to make more units that they think is enough to break in then the next thing they know they're actually forgetting to expand....
You guys have to admit by watching this game, that zerg is a bit op in ZvP match up, Jangbi did all that he could and was harassing Jaedong and won every early game battle, yet zerg manage to just hold off his 4 bases for a while and recovered like nothing happened and slowly just kept overwhelmed the protoss despite that he won every battle before. Think about it strategically, zerg has nydus canals that can make every zerg base easily defendable while protoss has large but slow army.
@mognite this is the game I was referring to Jangbi vs Hyun ruclips.net/video/J7hx-dhrLjg/видео.html see for yourself how behind zerg was and how easily it was for zerg to bounce back with the amount of larvae that can either be workers or units. as i stated before zerg is an exponential type of race, they spread like a virus, they are the type where if you let them grow to big, you'll lose. Jangbi should'vescouted the third better but it was so hard to kill that base when hes clearly ahead
SPOILERS --------------- @clifferd2001 however, the map appears to be very balanced. before this match pvz was 15-15. im really not sure how you argue for imba when protoss and zerg have had their share of great players. players like bisu and jaedong just make pvz and zvp look imba when they play. that said, jangbi played an incredible game, amassing archons like no one's biz. jaedong won simply with great map usage (lurk eggs) and placement (nydus, sunks, lurks)
If people are comparing starcraft 1 with starcraft 2, you have to first compare it to were it was after two years, and also compare them without expansions. Starcraft BW is an amazing game because how the races differ but also because of all the choises each race has. If you compare starcraft 1 (w.o. expansion) with starcraft 2, I would say there are about the same. But I cannot wait for the final expansion for starcraft 2, I think it'll be way better than BW if blizzard does this right.
Perfect game from JD. For those bitching about PvZ consider how long JD was 4 bases vs 2 and still was only barely able to hold on. It's not the races as much as JDv is generally imba.
@odiumisfun mass ultras verse mass archons is not a good idea. Mass lurkers are good because, they do splash damage, they are more ranged than archons, and tears up zealots (which usually accompanies mass archon composition). Not to mention the fact that mass ultras are very intensive on gas, while mass lurkers are not as much
It's beautiful yes but I still prefer the graphics of BW. They are so RAW, I love them. You cannot tell me that the carrier or the archon for example look better in SC2.
Jaedong doing it like a boss.. Playing ZvT vs Protoss and rapes.. It was pretty tense about 10 minutes or so though.. And so awesome as well.. :) :) :)
when a map is big, how much time does a protoss have to defend a far base from their army in order to react to a swarm crackling nexus snipe? in comparison, zerg has nyduls canals even faster acess to all their bases. as if their zergling speed wasn't enough. zerg can much more easily defend while protoss has to think ahead of zerg in order to give the proper defense because of how fast zerg army moves, or just make the zerg deal with protoss harassments, but again zerg defenses are tight.
I'm not playing Brood War...(only few games at weekend) but it seams mass lurker spam will work against anything that your opponent trow on field...off course you need to have some units around if siege tanks appear. Protos player played good but it seams nothing worked on this kind tactic.
its fun to see only so few units fighting and only a few units mining the minerals after playing tons of sc2 where the macro is so much easier and automatic
@mognite ok if you want to be technical, ill say this, if a player plays protoss and zerg the best a human can possible can, then zerg would win. I recently saw a game where Jangbi was against some zerg and he 2 gate zealot him and killed some drones and expanded as well when zerg was still at 2 bases, however zerg held his defense much more easily at his third base when he decided to get it than a protoss would if he was behind. it took a while for jangbi to win a game he should've easily won.
The game is like watching a typical hots pvz: Stargate opening>>Phoenix/corsair Mass gateway>>>denying expansions. Zerg eco crippled Lurker/swarm host.>reaver/collo/archon failes to push. Viper/defiler supports the rest. So why is what we see here better?
@Lakegogo seriously.... they are pro... and they are pros for a reason... i think they know the gameplay and strategy better... and its so easy for people to write what they should build... but its not the case then your actually playing the game!
@mognite and i know ofc no human can play perfectly but when it comes down to it, if you see a long PvZ game who most likely wins? Zerg. Why? because there are more opportunities for zerg to snipe protoss fragile bases that don't have the defense power of sunken, spore, lurker. I've watched many games where protoss had to sit one full control group of units in front of one of his bases just to def it, when zerg could just throw lings everywhere and reinforce really fast.
@mognite bisu even said in an interview recently that its better not to do much harassment these days because zerg defenses are really good. He admitted that it was getting harder and harder to do cost efficient drops to hurt the zerg's economy and i've seen many PvZs where protoss storms a ton of drones yet because protoss can't commit to an attack because of such a strong defense, zerg can just drone up and catch up economically because they are the exponential race.
@ChronicRecords lol faster paced? It's made with technology 10+ years newer than sc1 but all that means is that it has better graphics, hardly better in every aspect. Please don't make a fool of yourself....
It's a lot of fun watching these old matches.
UNBELIEVABLE skill by both players, but man what a BEAST Jaedong is
Wonderful defence by Jaedong. I would have died to the first push. It was unbelievable how he held the aggression in this game.
yes indeed.
Look at JangBi's face. Confidence oozes from him. The most confident SC:BW player ever, even when he was losing he didn't lose his face.
fuck man thats true

Long live Broodwar and may it continue to bring the joy it has for the past decade...
I miss how spread out brood war fights were. Made the battles seem so much larger than they really were x.x
이건 보면서도 어케이긴건지 신기함
such a higher skill cap in brood war then sc2. jaedongs talents are wasted in sc2
this.
+derpeter1234 I've played scbw and sc2. Scbw requires so much more!

@ChronicRecords Also, there have been tournies with 100k + live viewers in korea.
High skilled game, beautiful
Seeing this match I even get my palms wet, so much action in this game!
Is archon attack a melee attack, i mean is it affected by dark swarm? Or is it a range attack that can miss?
@ChronicRecords You meant not cluttered with fancy effects and sharp?
So it is affected by darkswarm? and what is the range?dragoon's is 6 with upgrade.
That was a really amazing game, but I didn't think Jangbi couldve pulled it off once I saw Jaedong having so many lurkers.
Even though I like executor JangBi very much, Jaedong is also a very good person (not only a great player), so I'm not sad after *SPOILER* the protoss lost. JangBi has also put really great pressure on Jaedong, so it was a great close game. And he was having fun too.

@ChronicRecords the key word "generally speaking", but starcraft is a special case, that's why it's classified as e-sport
Amazing game.. jaedong is the best zerg player. He definitely is the master.
why did Archons move away from the Dark Swarm at 28:46? I thought Dark Swarm benefits all melee units and Archons are melee, aren't they?
Maybe should have put in a couple of ensnares near the end as well... That particular unit combination sometimes bugs out under ensnare
@Raz0rIG That's a good point, but remember that Zerg needs to stay a few bases ahead as well
there is also armor type system in bw. it's just not indicated if you mouse over their armor type. but there is, actually.
SCBW is fucking EPIC !!!!!!!!
but archons do the splash damage under a dark swarm , right ?
@ChronicRecords
A sport is an organized, competitive, entertaining, and skilful activity requiring commitment, strategy, and fair play, in which a winner and loser can be defined by objective means.
such an exciting match. it went back and forth for quite a bit until the last 5-10 mins
@kuukiyomenaihito my initial thoughts regarding the PvZ balance is that Zerg is a bit more favored in the match up. It's good to see such great games still taking place. BW forever !
29:29 Why did JangBi seemingly abandon the top left expansion?
I think that the suspicions about JD's current state of ZvP can be forgotten now? His lategame is just untouchable, even after a serious disadvantage.
안녕하세요 친구가 내가 라틴 아메리카 호의 원인에서 오전 노래나 아티스트의 이름을 알고 질문입니다.
Wow... Jaedong and Jangbi = best game i'd ever seen
why there is no subtitles? :\
Why don't brood war players cast Ensnare on the Archon/Zealot army
28:49 let your units escape
29:17 split the army in two
29:35 split the army in two/ force the player to engage up the ramp
29:49 when the archons retreat you could have sniped some with your hydra/lurker

@torridmankind not even in graphics. Too flashy, sometimes hard to see what's what, etc etc.
