We had amassed a large amount of belongings and clutter over the years, but after starting minimalism, we have a cleaner home, a more relaxing space and more time to the things we want with the people we love.

    Hello from ottawa! I also have a first responder husband, 3 kids and I work outside the home! I've always been a minimalist at heart and I love watching your videos. Minimalism is not common so watching RUclips videos really helps me to know I'm not an island on my own. I feel like the house cleans itself at this point and every room I walk into is a like a deep calming breath. There is so much that is out of our control, if my house feels like it's under control I feel like I can do anything.

    This video is a year old so I guess I'm pretty late but it's okay that your wardrobe is plain and "boring" because your personality is bright and colorful!

    My bedroom, kitchen and bath are relaxing. I have packed away everything in Rubber maids with number, and index card directory with RM#, contents, and location,
    I packed my daughters toys in 3 boxes, and only one box out at a time, put everything back to get another box. The only time all 3 were out, was when she was rearranging her boxes contents. It worked.

    We have moved into a larger house this year (and love it!) and I have had to purchase more bedding and things to be able to function with overnight company (which happens multiple times a month) but I am finding myself surrounded by things we don't use anymore, and needing to minimize AGAIN (I did once when I was single, again after getting married, and again when I was pregnant with my first, but now it seems the whole household functions so differently, there has been major turnover but the old stuff hasn't all left! I've been taking loads to the donation center but I can FEEL that more needs to go! Thanks for the extra motivation!

    I have been asking my family for years NOT to buy me Christmas gifts and, instead to make a donation in my name to one of the charities I support - a local animal shelter and another for scholarships for indigenous peoples - but they still insist on buying me stuff I don't need and it drives me crazy! I inevitably end up taking the piece of clothing or knickknack that they give me to Goodwill...

    • @kjw79
      @kjw79 4 года назад +6

      I’m guessing the impersonal donation doesn’t let them express the feelings they have when choosing a gift for you. Perhaps you could ask for some specific items that will assist you at those charities...think of what the charities would buy with the donation and ask for that instead! Your family might feel more connected when you tell them how the printer or new stapler or doggie bed is making a difference there!
