thanks so much! im a first year at UCB but cause of COVID i can't really join hall association but when i get on campus i wanna become an RA but i fear that because i chose to study remotely at home and not go on campus that it'll affect my application negatively cause i didn't have enough on campus experience
I feel like they cannot negatively judge students who chose to stay home this school year if students felt uncomfortable with coming to campus because not returning to campus may have been out of your control. In your interview and application you can highlight other aspects of who you are, even if you were not on campus this year. Like if you joined any clubs virtually, you can talk about community building there etc! Plus so many students stayed home this semester so you should not be worried ☺️
@@rachel_lin hey Rachel, this is an older post but I was wondering if double majoring extended your time in college. I plan on doing a similar route double majoring in neuroscience and sociology and was pondering on how much time it would take. Did you double dip classes or use electives from 1 major to satisfy requirements for the other one? Get back to me when you can. You’re such an inspiration 💞💞💞🥺
@@raytas9140 Hi Ray! Thanks so much!! Double majoring did not increase my time at college - I still graduated in 4 years without taking any summer courses. However, I did take 5 classes a semester after I declared my double major in order to complete all of the requirements in 4 years. Yes! I tried to find classes that would satisfy multiple requirements, although that was difficult since Cog Sci and Legal Studies do not have a lot of overlap, versus if you majored in Econ and Business, some more of those major requirement classes may overlap. For example, I took a Psychology in the Law class, which was a Legal Studies requirement, but I filled out a form to try to get this class to count towards the Cog Sci major as well (as an elective) - I had to demonstrate that this course fulfilled some of the major Cog Sci themes etc. So that is a way to get classes to count towards multiple requirements, but it may take some more time/research/meeting with your advisors to get the courses to count. But that extra time researching is worth it if you can graduate on-time/early! Hope this helps! :)
Double check the instructions, but you can include the question at the top in bold if you wanted! I would at least label them in the PDF if you didn't want to put the question.
Heyy there I had a question on the accessibility to park a 27 ft school bus renovation of mine in the city of Berkeley. My ideal place would be parking it in a long drive away but I’m not sure how possible that it. Any tips would help thank you
Good question! You should check out the Berkeley Free and For Sale and Berkeley Housing pages on Facebook. People on there typically post if they have parking spots for rent if they’re going away for a semester etc. You could also post on there asking where to park a 27 foot bus and if anyone is selling a spot or if people know free spaces to park long term. Since it is a large vehicle, you would probably have to pay extra money to buy a parking permit. Hope this helps! 😁
Unfortunately not, since you have to be a current Berkeley student to apply. So if you are a junior transfer, you could apply and interview your junior year at Berkeley to become a RA your senior year. Hope this helps!
@@waldosmiles Yeah, pretty much. It's hard because the RA application processes have already passed for the 2022-2023 school year, so those selections would be made prior to transfer students knowing if they were accepted to Berkeley. If you are accepted to Berkeley and the Residential Student Coordinator (RSC) positions are still open on this site (reslife.berkeley.edu/opportunities/student-employment-opportunities/), then email them to ask if you can apply! In the past, we have had incoming graduate students in some of the roles (besides the graduate RSC one haha), so they would be in a similar situation as you where they were accepted to Berkeley, but haven't started as a student yet. These RSC positions also provide room/board as compensation. Hope that helps!
They usually post some example templates when they post the application on this site: reslife.berkeley.edu/opportunities/student-employment-opportunities/, Usually the application will consist of a "resume" portion where you would list 2-3 activities and write a short paragraph about what the activity is and how it relates to the RA role. Then the second part usually is two short essays answering why you want to be a RA and what the biggest challenge you would face if you were an RA. They haven't changed these questions in a while, but definitely could be different on upcoming applications!

@@rachel_lin it did. Ok so talk to advisers and try to get it cleared thank you!!! I’ll do more research but this definitely helps 💞
Hi Rachel!!! Do you know in the single PDF do I include the questions being asked then my response?

Hey Rachel when do decisions usually come out ?
In the past, it was usually in early February! But I think the timeline has changed now that the Application period was pushed back.
Is there any way I could find an example of what a previous Berkeley RA application looks like?

@@rachel_lin thank you!
I now want to be a resident assistant at Berkeley 😭😭
Yes you should definitely apply!! ⭐️
Where do I apply? On the Berkeley website.
They would post the application on the Residential Life website, here: reslife.berkeley.edu/opportunities/student-employment-opportunities/
