    Radio 1 was the preferred station we listened to from the 60s to the 80s ,always rememeber it the most before going to school in the morning, school holidays and the sunday night hit parade. great station keeping us in tune with the music of those times.

    The BBC could have a small Hit on their hands...With Vintage Radio...They must have a ton of material that most of the nation who grew up listening to "without doubt" the best Radio Station on the planet would love to hear again. Gets my vote.

      they could just re-run the entire show daily, just 30 years behind. 7 days a week, and it would have a large audience.

      Had they recorded every radio show and done it in stereo, despite the live transmission only being in mono, it could be interesting to put it out on the exact day and date, so the presenters get the date right, as well as the day!
      Most of the older presenters are no longer around to do their shows live - but it could be theoretically possible to assemble a Radio 1 Gold, with a schedule featuring some of the old boys’ network, if they were willing to do so, but with modifications, to allow for deceased presenters:
      6 am - Noel Edmonds - amongst all the music he played presenting it, replaying some of the funny phone calls:
      9 am - Simon Bates - with the Golden Hour at 9 and some of his favourite tunes, with a vintage Our Tune at ten and a new one at 11;
      Midday - Paul Burnett - playing some of the tunes he likes, with the Fun At One slot, where he played comedy clips;
      2 pm - David Hamilton - playing past Hamilton’s Hotshots and other tunes;
      4 pm - DLT - some of his faves;
      7 pm - Tony Blackburn;
      10 till midnight - Adrian Juste - playing lots of good tunes, interspersed with comedy bits, like he used to do on Saturday afternoons, but longer!
      That’s the weekdays - weekends - could have The Pick Of Junior Choice and Children’s Favourites first thing - then get some of the 80s presenters like Pat Sharp and Bruno Brookes to host shows - if enough recordings of Tom Browne’s tenure as the host of the Top 20 show exist, they could go out randomly, but timed to be on the same date!
      If it could be put out in stereo on DAB or online, all the better!

    Tony Blackburn and Paul Gambachini on radio 1 in 76. 45 years later they still on bbc radio 2. That's longevity. The one at 2.55 I remember liking then. Need this one on bbc2 pick of the pops.

    I wish the BBC would launch "Radio 1 vintage" as a fully fledged, stand alone Radio station.
    Playing all these BRILLIANT classic jingles along with the hits of the decades(1960-1900).
    Also play the classic Radio shows of years gone by.
    For example wake up to the Noel Edmunds breakfast show, Tony Blackburn (9-12am)Paul Burnette(12-3)David Hamilton (3-7pm)Peter Powell(7-10pm)and of course John Peel (10-12Midnight.)
    Classic Retro Radio 1 come on bbc get it sorted.
    You can keep today's version of Radio 1 because L was able listen to Radio1 in it's greatest years.

      Or a radio one GOLD, I thought that in 1990 when Radio 5 took over radio 2 on AM, I wish Radio 1 had used 1053 & 1089 for a Radio One Gold or R1 vintage giving ILR GOLD stations such as GEM AM a rival..

    247 was a dreadful MW frequency for BBC Radio 1. It got invaded after dark by Radio Tirana and in some areas of the UK it would fade, even during the day.
    When R1 moved to 275m / 1089 kHz and 285m / 1053 kHz on MW, it improved daytime reception massively, only fading in some areas of the UK after dark, but it was an improvement over 247m 1215 kHz MW.

    I was five years old when these jingles were launched in 1976. At the time I didn't realise they were recorded by an American company (JAM). Now they sound so unashamedly un-British and very American! Same with the Radio 2 jingles of the same era. They wouldn't have sounded out of place on any American Top Forty radio stations. I wonder if the fresh, hip (!) sound was a deliberate policy to get away from the hitherto stuffy BBC image ?

      Source? I always thought it was a Brit group like the Mike Sammes Singers that did all the BBC's jingle work.

    • @tyreburster
      @tyreburster Год назад +1

      @@eddiewillers1 They probably did in the early to mid-1960s but, by the time of Radio 1's founding in 1967, the BBC was employing PAMS for many, if not all, its jingle creations. JAM Creative Productions in Dallas got the gig in 1976. The music in the jingles was often the same across multiple radio stations around the English-speaking world, with just the station idents and slogans differing.
