    One hell of a bass teacher. I first learned out of a Mel Bay book. Visual like this is much better. Playing both upright , and guitar bass makes an all around solid bassist as you are. Goof for you.

    Hi Jim,
    thanks for another nice exercise. Beside one of the best hints you always give (PRACTICE!) I like how you treat your bass the practical way. I think it's exactly what it should be played like: practically! Not the way that looks good to the audience... To make clear what I mean: too many people shift positions where it's absolutely unnecessary. When one plays a song within a single octave, then usually there is absolutely no reason to shift, IMHO. Or they fill the whole bassline as if they were playing a piano with two hands. I like that you play what you play: a bass.

    I totally dig this line. Only problem I have is that some of the notes seem to rub when I use a jazz blues backing track with the diminished 4 chord and all the 251’s and the 1625 turnaround. I could be overthinking it tho.

    • @realbasslessons9356
      @realbasslessons9356  4 года назад +1

      Rub is part of jazz. When the backing tracks are not real, they always play too many chords. Trust me, PC knew what he was doing. Yes, you are totally over thinking. Does the line sound good to you? If yes, then play it. If not, move on.

    Hello Mr. Stinnett I’ve been really working on that foundation you speak a lot about in your lessons . I can play the major scales and triads in different positions and rhythms through the circle of fourths nicely . I fully understand why scales are important but I don’t understand the circle of fourths . i know that’s a good thing. but I am having trouble on understanding theory of why that’s a good thing. Do you have a video on the subject ? Do chord changes always move in fourths ? (I don’t think so) If you know of a video or have any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

    • @realbasslessons9356
      @realbasslessons9356  5 лет назад +2

      Don't worry about it. Theory has no sound in this aural artistic form called music. If it sounds good, play it.

    Hey Jim, i was looking to upgrade my amp and i was wondering what you would reccomend in terms of a rig that sounds good. Right now i have a fender combo amp and i am just looking for something that sounds a bit better.

    • @realbasslessons9356
      @realbasslessons9356  5 лет назад

      Jack, I really don't have a recommendation. I too like the Fender Rumble. If you were wanting to move up much higher, I would recommend Bergantino. They are top of the line gear. Maybe just a bit bigger one of the one you have, although that won't change the quality of sound. Sorry.

  • @thescatman5029
    @thescatman5029 5 лет назад

    A lot of PC's stuff, it sounds like he's not playing the changes, but is still sounding correct!

    • @realbasslessons9356
      @realbasslessons9356  5 лет назад +2

      Ha! here is quote from newest book - Jazz Bass Architecture and Language: "Paul's lines sound good over the chord changes, but are not limited to the changes."
      Sounding good is far better than "sounding correct."
