    Soon May the Wellerman Come is an old shanty. Its title refers to the so-called ‘wellermen’, the supply ships owned by the English Weller brothers, who emigrated to New Zealand at the beginning of the 19th century. The whalers appearing in this song are hoping that such a ship with provisions like tea, sugar and rum, will soon arrive. In 2020 and 2021, the versions by the British folk group The Longest Johns and the Scottish singer Nathan Evans were huge hits on TikTok, leading to a shanty rage on social media. Arranger Seb Skelly didn’t fail to notice this. He created his own version in a catchy arrangement for brass quintet.

    Amazing arrangement. Not just the choral version for brass, but a true-sounding brass quintet tune.

    The sound has a full range from a high trumpet all the way down to a tuba, yet there's no tuba/euphonium/horn to be found in the video (except maybe the flugelhorn which has the same range as a standard Bb trumpet), even the trombone is a soprano.

      It's a Flugelhorn. It's pitched down two octaves to simulate a Tuba.

      He pitches the Flugelhorn down two octaves to simulate a Tuba and the Soprano Trombone down one octave to simulate a Tenor Trombone

    I still dont get why he saying a trumpet is a tuba and a trumpet is a french horn

    • @natybug
      @natybug 2 года назад +1

      It’s because those are the parts they’re playing, he uses software to shift the pitch down to get the bass parts without actually needing a tuba

    That's definitely not a tenor trombone.
