*SIZE DOES MATTER*
AHAHAHAHAHAH
epic roast 😂😂😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👌👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍I AM DECEASED
These are helpful tips for a beginner, but you might consider not playing background music during your video. The music is very distracting. Your audio has a bit of echo already, the background music makes it more difficult to understand. Thanks for the video and advice.
Thanks Chuck! I agree, we have gotten better at paying attention to volume levels since this was made a couple years ago :)
3:33 actual test
I'm an adult and I have a cheap soprano ukulele I got from a second-hand store. I got lots of crap from guys because my uke was small and they advised me to get a concert uke because "it projects sound better". i held a concert uke in my weekly ukulele class... And I still don't like it so I'll stick to my soprano uke
Ladies will tell you side does matter, but so does rhythm and the ability to handle it.
This has been very useful - thanks - I am a guitarist and have a soprano just for messing around with - am going to teach my granddaughter now she is a bit older and was thinking of getting a decent concert ukulele for myself and a soprano for her - think I will go with that plan - cheers for the pointers - Steve.
Weird, but I prefer the sound of the Makala soprano between the two. I played tenor and concert for a couple years before I ever got a soprano, but I have grown to love it!
The size you get depends on what you're most comfortable with and what you like the sound of the most. Smaller doesn't mean easier to play. I learned on a concert and wished it would have been a tenor because my hands were slightly cramped. So size doesn't matter unless you want it to.
because as ladies will tell you, size does matter
KayTheTurtle that was the most cringeworthy thing to ever enter my ears😬😬😬
KayTheTurtle I cringed so hard
KayTheTurtle i died, that was hilarious
i was eating and i choked
omg i didnt expect that at all
I think your review is quite biased, plus it makes the impression that sopranos are cheaper and less quality as a rule. I just think that for size comparison you should get same range ukes, and for prize comparison, you should show same size ukes.
I prefer concert myself, but I believe your video is misleading. Awkwardness depends a lot on hand size and flexibility. 1 month is waaaaay more than what it took me to get used to the soprano size. And I come from a guitar background.
the soprano sounds better to me. hmm
Charry Salce I have the soprano!
I have both. Concert sounds better (to me). Deeper richer sound. Also I like the concert for its slightly wider frets. (small but kinda fat fingers). I use the concert when I play with my kanakapia group. When I go to the beach (I live on Maui) I use my soprano
Makala all the way. Will forever treasure my $2.99 purchase from the thrift store. Plus I'm only playing in my bedroom.
3:46 soprano
4:01 concert
Yeah, I concur, if you're starting out think about a concert, just went through this, have been trying to learn fretboards for years, absolutely no luck til I got the Makala concert in March, now I have 5 different sizes (including sopranino) and the concert and tenor are easiest, concert sounds more like a uke though.
Your fingers are like spider legs dancing around.
Steve Jackson Actually ukulule means jumping flea in Hawaiian. Uku is flea, lele means jump.
I have tenor and it's my second uke. It's really nice and I love playing it. I think tenors are a wonderful size. I'm still 12 too so my fingers are not as long as a adults fingers but I still finger most chords. So if you really want to buy a tenor go ahead and buy it. It's still a great uke.
MOMO Mckamey Thanks for the comments MOMO! Keep playing! And if you are looking for lessons: Check out our site: RockClass101.com
MOMO Mckamey Yeah im 14 and my hands are the perfect size for the soprano
nice video! I prefer soprano because it's easier to carry around :) and no problem for the fret size (in fact fore some reason it feels easier than concert). I guess it depends some people have thicker fingers. cheers!
boxmonkey I agree! I prefer soprano too. It just has that traditional 'uke' sound!
I'm a beginner and I have both, now thinking of getting an electric with amp. BTW, both my Ukes are cheap and I love them both for different reasons.
80% of people in comment section: “as ladies size does matter-“
Soprano hands down. It has the actual feel of the islands with the way it sounds.
I injured myself and can't raise either arm without unbelievable excruciating pain. (Think dinosaur arms. lol) I have to admit, the soprano size ukulele is working out really well in my situation to learn on so far! I ended up buying a really REALLY cheap beginner soprano because I had no choice. I really would like to upgrade to a concert or tenor size at some point to add those extra frets because I always find myself wanting to play just a few frets above the 12th! My lack of frets on soprano is teaching me how to get a few notes out of the wood past the 12th fret but they don't ring quite the same.
What about Long Neck "Super" Sopranos? I'm an adult and didn't want to sacrifice that traditional soprano sound and size, but felt more comfortable with a concert neck - so I bought a Kala KA-KSLNG, that has a soprano body with a concert length neck. I think it's the best of both worlds!
I got a tenor it is being shipped on Thursday. This will be my first ukulele, but I already know how to play Suprano (thanks to choir)
Awesome! Enjoy the new uke!
"as ladies will tell you: size does matter"
I love the tone of your voice 😍
Thanks a lot! Going to get the concert size since I'm huge and will not be able to hold and play the soprano
Manan Khandelwal Awesome! Glad the video helped you decide! Please subscribe and check out: RockClass101.com for Ukulele Lessons when you get it!
DAMN THAT UKULELE IS VERY ATTRACTIVE WOW
You are comparing you lower cost (quality) and smaller size to higher cost (quality) and larger size. Kinda like comparing a professional boxer to a skinny kid that has had 1 karate lesson.
Tommy yeah
This is the second ukulele video in the same day I saw that you commented on XD
good video, trying to purchase my boyfriend a Ukulele for his birthday, didn't know the difference of the available options. Now I do! Thanks! (Note: the ukulele playing in the background is a bit distracting :-/ )
Glad it helped sunniesmile07! Don't forget to buy him a gift card for our site! He can learn all the songs you heard on the video and on our channel! The gift card is only $19.95 and he gets 3 months of lessons! Buy the gift card here: rockclass101.com/secureaccess/signup/giftvoucher - Sorry about the music in the background! It's hard to find the perfect balance because it sounds different through studio monitors vs iPhone vs computer speakers.
Great video, thanks for the advices.
i currently have a $45 dollar soprano uke, and its really just cuz I'm still just starting, only like a month experience
In my opinion, if you want to start playing, you may want to save un extra 20 and get a Makala uke. Not only is it then "stereotypical" ukulele size, but for a cheap ukulele, I think it has a great sound. Makalas have a great tone. Mine stays in tune for a long time. I love it just as much as my concert uke.
I got a £15 purple Mahalo years ago and never looked back 💜
As ladies will tell you, size does matter 😭
If you have a beat up cooter
He now seems so pubescent since this comment it kills his tutorials for me 😭

I had a sheepish smile throughout... you are very cute!
you're a skilled teacher
first thing I noticed
was the bowie album
Well I'm 13 years old and I recently bought a Cordoba 15CM I really like it is a concert ukulele it is very nice and the fret board can be a little small but it just depends on what size of fingers you have in my pinion Bob for a least my age I would go for a concert and no problem with the sopranos sopranos or even better to hold to be honest but I had a soprano at 1st that I moved up gradually through the soprano through concert
Thanks🙏
I had my eye on a £45.99 concert uke. When I went to buy it off Amazon, it was reduced to £39.99. So I snapped it up. Then the next day it was back up to £45.99, so I was extra pleased I'd bought it cheaper. It came today. I bloody ordered the soprano by mistake duh! So THAT explains the price lol. But I'm glad, because even though I'm an adult I have tiny hands and I am even struggling with E chord. So I need little frets. Really pleased with my uke. I would love to play Norwegian Wood like that.
Congrats on the new uke! You can learn our arrangement of Norwegian Wood here: rockclass101.com/norwegian-wood-ukulele/
+Rock Class 101 Thank you. How much does it cost though?
$50 wins on value, portability and brighter sound.
I heard some Beatles....yes!
I think Tenor Ukuleles are great, Ukuleles have a bright sound so I don't mind a little bit of depth ^^ I don't think the size is a problem even for beginners. Like a guitar would have a bigger size as well and you don't really start with a kid's guitar as an adult ^^ I find the tenor easier to hold and play.
I'm getting an Oscar Schmidt Aloha concert ukulele next week with a pickup. I've been playing the Kala soprano uke for two years. I like the soprano because I have relatively small hands and my ukulele sounds absolutely beautiful. I have tried playing a tenor and it was super hard for me because my hands and fingers are small (I'm thirteen and 5'2). So I'm getting a concert one next because it's right in between and it isn't as low as a tenor (my voice is also high and I'm a soprano in terms of singing 😝) and I also play in front of people so I think it's the best choice and I can attach a strap on it, too!
Congrats!
i think big size ukulele is not concert, its tenor... and there is baritone ukulele too
lexo ratiani That's correct. From small to large: Soprano, Concert, Tenor, Baritone. This review covers the first three, since they are the most popular. Baritone is tuned differently as well.
There is also the iUke and the piccolo uke which are both smaller than the soprano.
Personally I don't feel that size does matter with regards to the person's hand size. If you can't squeeze your fingers onto a smaller uke, then you have to find alternative ways of creating the fingering. Yes that may be too much for some people but I have relatively big hands and although I have a beautiful Kala Tenor, I spend more time on my cheap soprano.
It may, in general be a good idea to start on a smaller uke and work your way up in size though.
You got me with the joke at the beginning. I like the video, thanks for informing me :)
+Jenna Maloney Glad you enjoyed it Jenna!
ponele subtitulos en español asi te podemos comprender mejor , toda la comunidad que hablamos Español, gracias , me sirvio mucho el video. Saludos desde Argentina
I have that Makala MK-S, it's a lot of fun to play
It's an awesome uke!
Check out the new comparison! $50 Makala Ukulele vs $5000 Vintage Martin 3k Ukulele: ruclips.net/video/5OEog_2dyKw/видео.html
Thanks for the advice Mikael Sera.
No prob! I learned everything from Mc'Lovin
Thanks this helped a lot!!
Banana Sheep Glad to be of help!
i'm confused because everyone calls it a fingerboard but i have been told to say fretboard is it different between uke and guitar
+CanIHasUkulele Generally, when referring to the wood used in building, you would call it fingerboard. When playing, you will call it fretboard. But either can be used interchangeably. Wait until you start learning music theory and see how many names they have for the same chord. :)
Peek Bowie in the back~
thanks I play bass guitar/Hammond organ/steel drum and I have problems with small finger board. I think for me to be a first timer I need the bigger one.
Cajun Ken Proulx Glad the review helped! The concert size is definitely easier to hold and play when first starting out!
thanks for the play
I will say this.I'm 6 feet tall and weight 300 pounds so i think i can call myself a big men.I play the soprano uke and i have seen men bigger than me playing it.Anybody can play it,the soprano ukulele as not been invented for children its an adult instrument.
thank you!
"As ladies will tell you, size does matter." LMAO
The soprano sized ukulele sounds better than the bigger one to me. The bigger one sounds like some sort of middle eastern music, and I'm not into that kind of sound.
Well that was kind of pointless.
does he remind anyone else of danisnotonfire?
I like the little 50 buck bugger. Has more character.
same
The soprano looks way better to me. The concert's shiny finish, light color and cheesy embellishments don't do it for me at all.
This was great, thank you. I have a tenor, and I love it. But I want a smaller uke for heading to the park, etc... I'll definitely look into trying that Mitchell concert. I'd love for you to come listen to some of my original uke songs on my channel. Thank you!
Ciara Carruthers Thanks Ciara! I'll check them out now!
Thank you!

III ONCE HAD A GIRL
OR SHOULD I SAY
SHE ONCE HAD ME
SHEE SHOWED ME HER ROOMM
ISN'T IT GOOD??
NORWEGIAN WOOD
SHE ASKED ME TO STAY AND SHE TOLD ME TO SIT ANYWHERE.
SO I LOOKED AROUND AND I NOTICED THERE WASN'T A CHAIR
The lower priced Uke sounded fuller. The concert Uke lacked low frequencies. Nice vid.
The Kala sounded better. I agree though that the concert size is more convenient. How does a Kala concert sound?
Ryan Bruno I'm not sure, as I haven't played one. Plus, there are many different concert sized models from Kala. Different woods will yield a different tone. Maybe someone that has played one can chime in.
Thanks for the feedback. Nice video by the way!
Ryan Bruno My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed the video!
I don't think i'm correct but that Makala uke is 120 dollars not 50.
It is a Makala MK-S and is only $50 :) Here is the link on Amazon: amzn.to/2gBepiS
okay thank you
thank you i've been trying to find a cheap first ukulele that is still relatively good. Thanks for the link.
I can't stop laughing, "As ladies tell you, size DOES matter,". And then that awkward smile.
Your thumbnail looks like your smellimg a subway sandwich
Goddammit. I payed $160 for the exact same soprano. I want to go throw rocks at the music shop's window rn
I have the Mitchell (nor my favorite bc it's lacquer finish makes it not a full rich sound.
So this comparison is not good. In my opinion he should of compared similar wood/finished/same brand ukuleles for the "size" comparison.
...my 2 cents.
All,S don't matter, I think they sound the same, and I'm cheap af so soprano it is
Aquarius & Aries 6362 yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Aquarius & Aries 6362 |-/
That's the problem with this video. Same quality soprano and soncert sizes differ on price only in a few bucks. This guy is comparing a cheap ass one (Makala) with a nicer one. If you want cheap not very good concert size, you can get a Makala concert. You can easily find a $1,200.00 soprano.
The size has nothing to do with price (in the same quality range), unless you're looking to save $10.

can't follow the voice because the ukulele in the "background" is way too loud.
I think both cost more than you say, about 20% more?
shinrips The prices are correct - the links to purchase the uke's are in the description.
Thank you for telling us the way it is my uke friend!
same
....and you've asked many ladies have you?
Why isn't anyone mentioning you look a lot like Messi.
wtf
A cuter verson of him, though!!
he looks nothing like messi.
FavJam he looks like the guy from superbad
Messi? No, but really like Lewan Kobiashvili.
Nothing like Messi at all
my boys up at the top😇
lewer you back groud mucic
Thanks!!!
You are welcome Charmaniaca! When you get the new uke, be sure to check out: RockClass101.com. We have over 70+ lessons and you can learn full songs for ukulele!
Makala sounds better. Try it you folks with a headphones and it makes a lot of difference.
The music in the back was a little loud
still lil bit confused... i prefer the soprano bec of the sound and bec it is like more cute, but i don't know if it would be so difficult to me since it is very small and i've never played ukelele or guitar before
+TheMJaddiction The best way to know which is right for you, is to go to your local music store and try all of the ukulele sizes out. Pick the uke that sounds, plays, and feels the best to you. Appearance should be the least important aspect of your decision. It's all about play-ability :). One of the employees can help tell you which plays best, since you have not played before.
+Rock Class 101 i will do that, thank you!!
Ukulele has also bariton size
Correct! But it uses a different tuning.
Ah this helped a lot thanks!
(Also, you’re freakin adorable.)
Video starts at 3:46
thank you for the tip!!
Glad the video was helpful :)
But what if you're an adult with small fingers.
I'd go with a concert size :)
I love the Marley in the back😂
Hi, I am a twelve year old petite, and I want a concert ukulele. Will that size be a disadvantage for my body size?
+Joy Acheampong Hi Joy, I don't think so! I would go to your local music store and try out both sizes and pick the one that is most comfortable for you.
You said that you wouldn't recommend tenor ukulele for adult beginner.
Why is that so? Isn't it easier to play tenor for an adult?
I recommended concert based on the tone/sound, as it sounds truer to the traditional uke sound heard in sopranos. You are correct in that it is easier to play for adults as the frets/neck is larger.
Thank you :) Keep up the good work!
I'm an 11 year old, and I'm looking for a uke. I am intermediate. Please give me advice for which size, and which model.
+Stan the MAN Hey Stan, either of the two ukulele's in this video would be great for you. I would suggest going to your local music store and trying out a soprano and a concert size uke and picking the one that feels the most comfortable to you. When you get your uke, ask your parents to sign you up for our lesson's site: RockClass101.com. You can learn a lot of great tunes on our site! Let me know if you have any more questions :)
ok thanks! I will go try them out.
I decided to get a Cordoba 15CM concert ukulele. It should arrive quite soon! I will use rockclass101
+Stan the MAN Awesome! Let me know how you like it. :)
+Stan the MAN How is it, size wise?
Size doesn't matter.
Dig the Van Halen album cover on the wall! Women and Children First!
+Jeff Coker One of my favorite albums!
Mine too. My friends and I recreated that photo back in high school.
+Jeff Coker Lol that's awesome! I miss high school, my friends and I recreated Monty Python movies haha!
looking to buy my first ukulele and at first i was going to buy the smaller one, but now after watching this video and listening to the difference, although small, I think I will go with the concert one. ^^ looks and sounds (slightly) more professional than the smaller and I think would fit more songs better without it being as high pitched at the smaller would. Thanks! :D
Also, just checked your link to the concert one, just wondering, did you purchase yours off of that site or did you buy it in a store?
Raindrop〈3 I own the soprano ukulele. The concert is my friend's ukulele. Musicians Friend is a great site to purchase music gear at, they always have great prices, free shipping, and where I live - no tax. But, I'd recommend going to a music store and trying both out. That way you can choose the one you think sounds better and plays better. Good luck!
Ah okay, I think I will purchase one in store then. Thank you!
Can't hear you talking with the loud background music
I have the concert
Can we use the same chords for all ukulele?
Soprano, concert, and tenor use the same tuning: G C E A. Baritone is different: D G B E (identical to a guitar - strings 1-4). Yes, the chord shapes are the same, but they will have different names as a standard uke is a fourth higher. For example, a D chord on baritone is a G on soprano.
+Rock Class 101 okay thanks :)
Hey, your security certificate just expired and I get a warning message when I try to access any page on your site. You might want to fix that. Nice video; it was nice to hear the instruments side by side.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention Laurie, I'm working with my hosting company to resolve this ASAP.
Hey Laurie, this issue has been resolved. Thanks again for the heads up!
I have roughly the same price with 10 dollars off so 40 and i bought 2 so 80 dollars usd it was their store brand
Freeze frame*
Scratch*
Now, you know how music stores take obscure piano companies and put on their own brand?
It’s the same here.
Rewind noise*
It was actually better than that one
It reminded me of a makala
It had covered-up tuning pegs so, no dirt!
The other one was a lighter one (for my sister)
They are concert size so it was fine for my sister (she’s turning 18 as of may 12, 2020)
For me, i kinda got used to the larger than the stereo type size (and, yes i know it is called soprano)
So, i dunno i just kinda wanna flex
Edit:By the way, yes we did buy them before this ck-virus (that’s how i like to censor it) thing happened. WAAAAAY back. We don’t have cases i forgot to mention. I hate saying this but
CHEERS
I want a ukulele but my parents won't let me get one because I have a guitar
+Alexa Geyer If you capo the 5th fret of a guitar, you almost have a uke! The only difference is the 4th string is a low note, versus a high note on the uke. You could practice this way until they get you one :)
