Best gun channel on youtube
Chris is most underrated youtube gun channel. Love the work he and his wife do.
Wranglerstar and SmallArmsSolutions would be my first two picks for an ideal special forces team.
Agreed
Wow, my favorite RUclipsrs in the same place, cool!
2k for a complete set up like this using all top tier parts really isn’t bad at all considering everything on that rifle 🤙🏽
love this guy he tells you how HE likes to build HIS ideal rifle he dosent tell you how to build the best rifle he tells u how HE likes it most channels out there tells you that you HAVE to do it this way or you HAVE to have that or thats the way SEALS do it ( and no SEALS dont do anythign any specific way they do it there OWN individual ways ) any channel that tries to dictate to u you how somethign is done should be considered bullshit . you build it how you like it and what works for you and is comfortable for you thats why all operators will never do things a standard way cause at the end of the day everyone is different thanks bro keep up the good work
cordellej I’d say all the channels I watch mention “this is how I like it” or “ this is my own preference”
Kinda reminds me of the people that seem to think if you don't carry a glock your screwed might as well be unarmed lol.
Well said. I have seen Spec-Ops guys weapons and you will rarely if ever see two exactly the same.
I believe a lot of you guys are looking at this in a different way than Chris. He built a gun with an engineering background as the basis; the smoothest-running, the most efficient and least wear on the parts while maintaining sufficient external ballistics, a chrome bolt carrier that will be easy to clean and reliable, the barrel and rail covers that will tolerate heat and extended round counts from stationary positions, you know... like actual things that make a weapon system functional and effective for a long time under combat conditions. The ambi stuff is personal preference. The optics are heavy but more than capable of doing many applications and retaining function.
Most of these complaints are about how this rifle isnt modern enough and isnt light enough. This rifle will function for a long time. Im all for the modern things, but I also know that this is an absolutely functional firearm.
From a technical and 'on paper' standpoint sure. Carrying it and actually using it turns it into a different story.
@@Esko_Vasya my friend I carried a 16 on 2 of my deployments with a KAC quad rail, peq 16, KAC VG, my own light because the peq was always on IR, TA31 ACOG, KAC 2-600 rear and on occasion a PVS 24(NVG scope mounted in front of the ACOG) and I never had an issue and that thing had to weigh 12-15lbs depending on the mission. I've carried SAWs for 20 miles and I've known guys who went as far as to deck out their 16 like a DMR with bipod and o much more. If you deem a piece of kit necessary you'll deal with it and not have a problem. If it's just something you have because its high speed low drag you'll get rid of it. Dudes rifle is light, has the gear he deems necessary and I'm sure if he had to hump it he could without issue. Again, just one grunts perspective
@@devildog1989 and McBadger, very much agree with both you
@Oppai Man funny thing is you dont even have to lift you just have to get used to the weight and its ain't nothing but a thang
McBadgerTactical hell I still use 12 inch quad rail. Yes it’s cool and functional to have m-lok but the gun still works. My gun might be heavier but it’s a hell of a shooter.
Probably the most knowledgeable Man on the tube when it comes to the ar, m4, m16 platform rifle's. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the novice, do it yourself gun builder like myself.
Terry Bender taught me how to shoot at a Catholic summer camp about 15 years ago. He is an extremely nice guy and was showing us his designs for a .50 caliber rifle. That trigger design was adapted to the AR and is the one in the video.
I kind of like the buffer spring noise - reminds me of basic training
John P
Wham I first shot my AR... I was kind of surprised at the amount of noise my buffer spring made.
Now I enjoy it.🤣👍
It is kind of annoying on a rifle length system in the cold, but not enough to warrant paying for a JP SPS
How you explained the WHY behind every component you chose was excellent. And the fact that this explanation comes from someone who worked for a company ( a BIG name) contracted by the USG makes this that much more interesting. Thank you.
I still use a Centurion arms quad rail on my main rifle. I love that rail!!
Wow. That looks like a very smooth shooting rifle. A lot of comments about perceived high weight of your build but I wouldn't mind the extra weight if smooth, flat recoil is the payoff.
Cool. Thanks for your thoughts. That ADAK lower (if i heard you say it that way) is really fascinating with that bolt hold open feature incorporated into the mag release button. That is genius.
That beast is absolutely gorgeous!, nicely done Sir!
Paul Harrel and you are probably the only people I would listen too. Thanks for your videos. Coming from a new gun owner.
is anyone kindof surprized of the LACK of LMT parts?
they are overrated
@@User-nu6km the intrinsic quality of lmt isnt the reason i'm surprised
Beryllium there not though
Brandon roberts LMT and KAC are considered the best ARs on the market as of now...
Also Small Arms solutions considers them the best on the market and has only really dabbled with them this year. This video is two years old...
Small arms solutions considers them the best of the best with the most modularity . He just recently dabbled on their full line of military rifles for a year or so. This video is 2 years old
Once again, thank you for your time and effort to produce this, all good choices and well reasoned.
As an aside, the first time I saw a 16" semi-auto Colt carbine, it looked quite odd having all that barrel sticking out from
the front sight and "what is the front sight (and gas port) doing all the way back there? Of course, the answer is
Colt, after making all the Commandos and the XM177 adventure, decided to make a civilian version and why bother doing
anything else except making the barrel 16" after all, 'we're Colt, they'll buy anything we make." Proper dwell is so essential
whether it be gas operated, short or long recoil, or otherwise. Hope I didn't bend your ear too much.
All the best!
I use Hiperfire triggers almost exclusively (except for my long range precision rifles, then I use the Larue MBT 2 Stage) I have several Hiperfire models, the Eclipse is my favorite the Elite is also nice, the EDT2 is an exceptional value as well
I like a fluted heavy barrel, but to compensate for that weight I use the lightest handguard possible.
I use fixed stocks so I don't have to mess with anything.
And my optics setup is a 1-6x with illuminated reticle.
Go chrome lined if u want durability
Heavy profile barrels aren’t just for durability, but also for reducing barrel whip and harmonics.
What’s funny is this is very close to what I’m wanting build. Vltor front post, ascend armory billet receivers for the ambi controls, magpul ubr with vltor a5, and likely a POF or Rosco barrel with a holosun 515 (titanium model), and Aimpoint 3x
Nice setup sir. Im glad to hear your take on the weight issue. My current 5.56 rifle is my 805 Bren smooth and with the extra weight the recoil is nothing.
I run the 805 mostly as well, honestly my favorite that I keep coming back to.
Ideal for me is gotta have a carry handle. Fixed, solid, high quality Iron sights. 16inch barrel, fixed stock (slightly shortened) and underbarrel grenade launcher. No picantiny anywhere. I don't use attachments. I like everything to all be machined and fixed permanently. Solid steel no batteries, no electronics. I'll carry binoculars for optics.
That lower you got there got me really thinking. Great build!
You are certainly a wealth of very experienced information.
Short barreled M16's like the CAR-15 in Vietnam have always had trouble reaching the terminal velocity necessary to incapacitate someone you need that 20 inches of barrel to reach the 3,000 fps muzzle velocity necessary to achieve terminal effect on target. The unofficial M16A5 or Canadian C8 rifle with adjustable stock is the way to go otherwise you have to hotrod the cartridge which decreases accuracy like the current M855A1 enhanced barrier penetration ammo which is less accurate than the older M855 ammo or the mk262 mod 1 hollow point ammo. Long barrel's save life's. The military could swap the M16-A4 upper onto the current M4-A1 lower along with a new 1:8 twist barrel for the 77 gr otm mk262 mod 1 ammo and create one of the most effective man stoppers ever made.
flip that red dot mount around and get it on the receiver instead of the handguard.
My first thought exactly.
That rail is one of the few you can mount your optics and retain zero. Most people don't care however, think about a peq15 on the front of a bcm rail. It retains zero enough for 99% of people I dont think having your optic mount on a modern rail system is any detriment
@@twostangs81 Why would you make it take up more space on the top of the rifle than necessary? That cantilever mount is pointless in this application.
It's nice to see someone else using Hiperfire triggers. There was a heck of a sale a while ago for these, so I have 4 of the EDT2 triggers and a 24. All of them eat every type of ammo you can through at them no matter how hard the primer is.
I am in love with the lower! Great build thanks
Please write a book or do a video/audio book about your time at Colt with some of the stories you have to tell, Please do this b4 the info is lost forever.
Bobby SmitherJones I dis a video called Cold, loss of an Empire
Excellent video. I agree with the logic on parts selection. I prefer a different stock and optic, but they are essentially the same. I like the Cryptic Coating BCG. Reliable and easy to clean. I want to look into this trigger. I like what you say about it. Would like to try one out. As for the Radian lower - I’m convinced and will use one soon. Beauty build!
Good video - thanks
Jerry Johnson The BCG is a Smith Enterprises chrome BCG
Chris, in my humble opinion I could not agree more on your view of lightweight vs durability. Having a reliable rifle that goes bang when you depress the trigger, survives explosions, drops, and can be used in hand to hand combat because it's built with some "meat" on its bones is ideal.
I have that same buttstock i put on a 300 blackout of mine. You're the only other guy I've seen with that buttstock. When I first got it in the mail I thought it was a little "too big", but it's actually deceptively light. I'm keeping it.
I'm fond of dirt simple, stone reliable. Thankfully, budget agrees with that. I don't think a "combat" rifle should be spec'd according to fad or fashion. Just what works and well. Of course these days my enemies are two feet long and furry, so you have to know the mission to tailor the tool. That said, I run scopes now and never did in the "old Corps." New mission. Older eyes. New tools. I like your gun, dude. To each their own.
What’s perceived as heavy to one person may not be heavy to another. Chris probably has not problem with the weight, and in the beginning of the video he even said that his preferences are different than someone who cares all about being lightweight. In Rorke Denver’s book “Damn Few” his C/O on SEAL Team 4 carried a SOCOM-16 throughout his time in the service, which is over 10lbs fully loaded with an optic. There are plenty of guys who have no problem carrying the weight and do it just as good as someone with something lighter, just because you don’t agree doesn’t mean “his rifle won’t be effective in the real world”
physical fitness is super important in combat. The navy even accounted for it when shipping marines across the ocean to fight the japanese. All those men spending weeks on end floating around in close quarters unable to do proper PT.
There is a limit to what any person can carry. 2 pounds of rifle is 2 pounds of ammo you dont have. Or water, food, grenades, radio, batteries, signalling equipment, land nav equipment, spare socks, and many other neccesities.

This is why I love Daniel Defense barrels. In my experience you get the same kind of accuracy as traditional barrels, but it still has the greater durability because it is a cold hammer forger barrel. Downside though is that Daniel defense barrels are definitely more money to cough up.
I just love my S+W ar-15 Gen 1. Bought all the toys for it. Never had a problem with it. My back up is of course. A colt 45. SOG super bowie. Need i say more.

Best Lower that you can't get. EVERETHING on that lower kicks ass!
That is a nice long gun. Nice build. I don’t have the know how for now I will use my hk mr556. I will build one one day. I like the lower you used.
Sweet build. I been thinking about putting red dot sights on mine. And love how the grip has a compartment to put my survival kit inside.
Can we get a 2021 updated build?
I'm surprised to say I have nearly the same build. I just stuck with a car gas system and got a Midwest Gen-2 TS 7.25 free-floating quad rail.

Looks great and will be durable at the expense of weight.
Mr. Bartocci, I would love to hear your thoughts on my build.
Would love to know if you have updated this list and why - lot has come along since you did it
I have enjoyed all your videos thus far. Excellent teacher and historian. With money I would put this rifle together, just as you have it. Thanks for the video.

I want one of those adac lowers so bad. Waiting for them to be back in stock.
I completely agree with him about durability. I own an CZ Bren. It's got some weight to it. However, I know that gun was run by the Checz Military. You see all these youtube vids with guys shooting fast. Shit doesn't happen that way. You take cover. Go light and you shit breaks.
I really like your choices. I too have Alot of VLTOR parts as well. The E-Mod and I-Mod stocks. I'm going to look into that Lower because that is pretty Kool.
You should update this for 2020
Bro, you need that hearing protection, please @ 23:22 . I know the old school military didn't use it, but now we see the issues with it, get some and use them because I know you have it.

Nice rifle, and especially the Texas flag. Love your channel, best AR channel on RUclips.
I’ve been looking for this video since your other channel was taken down
I also really like the ARMS 41 FSP/Gas block...
No doubt a sweet sweet shooter
That's a beauty!😲💪 The basic M4-type carbine is been pretty scienced-out by now and it's fairly simple to assemble a solid gun. That said it's hard to argue with your choices. Probably nowadays you won't find many Comp M2s anymore (the Comp M4 replaced it) and I'm running the newer Comp M5. But what a solid fighting gun yours would be!🙏🏆😎
Quality parts, quality rifle. Looks to be a good shooter and stone cold reliable.

Hell yeah West Texas!
I have found one very good reason to have a forward assist. It may not apply to everyone, but it definitely applies to me.
When I dry fire (which is quite often) I have to unload my weapon. When I am finished I have to load it back up. Every time I chamber a round by letting the charging handle drop, the round that is chambered gets that little slight primer strike. I have tested those rounds after being loaded like that up to 10 times, and I believe they will be fine after many more, but... Every professional I talk to tells me to NOT trust those rounds with my life. "Your life isn't worth risking over the $0.75 you save. After you eject an unfired round, throw it in the practice pile.". I understand what, and why, they are saying, but...
I can't afford to do that. Literally cannot afford to throw that many rounds away. I might dry fire 6 times a day. With a forward assist I can ease the charging handle forward and then use the forward assist to seat the round and make ready.
Otherwise, I can only think of a single reason you would ever NEED one, and that's if you're being overran and you absolutely MUST get that last round into the chamber, consequences be damned. But a lot of things have to have gone wrong for that to be a final scenario.
I would not worry about it. If you look at the round close and its still in perfect shape its fine. If its bent or gouged toss it.
@@robertbogan225 ,I fully agree, but literally every instructor, person I've talked to, and random internet people say it's not worth the risk. I see where they're coming from, but like I said I'm my post, I can't afford to throw that many rounds away. Using the forward assist solves the issue completely.
@23:20.......who needs ear plugs anyway 🤣 my man
I am wearing ear plugs, 1991 GI issue ones
Is your optic mount backwards? I thought the purpose of that mount was to avoid having the mount intersect the rail?
I'm just going to take a guess, but maybe he has it backwards so the magnifier works better? It's bothering me more then it should. 😂
@@Masta_E Works better how? He's using a cantilever mount in the exact opposite orientation it was intended for. With this setup, the optic has a larger rail "footprint" than if he just used the standard QRP2 mount.
Here I was about to disagree with you on a ton, but like a fair amount of your stuff. I know lots of industry AR componentry but somehow didn’t realize how trick that radian lower is. My use philosophy would include more offhand and mobile shooting, so I’d build a lighter rifle, and build a lighter 308 platform for more stationary shooting
Thank you for your time sir love your knowledge ,good shit
The wait for buying this rifle would totally be worth it.
All I can say is AWESOME!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and logic behind why you chose each piece to build.
With respect to grips... you mentioned that one was most comfortable. What are your thoughts on the houge rubberized grips. Or the oversized rubberized grip with baseplate. Those seem to be more ergonomic and are more comfortable for me personally. The finger grooves make me feel like I have a stronger and more consistent grip than the squared grips.
Thank you, that was real informative as as always! Keep up the the good work!
Sweetest rifle 100 thumbs up great vid thanks for your time.
If the x95 was as accurate as the m4, I think it’d be the ideal battle rifle. A full 16” barrel (in US at least) in an SBR package, reliable, n perfect for cqb.
maybe i missed the part but,
what is the actual weight of the rifle?

Maybe I missed it but you never really explained why you went with a quad rail vs a lower profile m-lock type handguard.. I’m curious as to this choice as there are many very durable options out there now that are every bit as strong as a traditional quad rail. I’m going to guess that you do it to remove extra parts like you say about forged finger guards on lowers? Love that adec mag release system.. I’ve never seen that before. I will definitely be going that route on my next build over the magpul bad levers I traditionally use.
The rails themselves are just as strong, but an actual rail is a much more solid mounting point than something you have to screw on to the handguard seperately.
Mlok is not stronger. Look into the military guys who had their mlok rails bent lol. Quad rails are more durable
@@SkintSNIPER262 no one said stronger...
I’d like to see this go head to head with the Brownells WWSD AR15 from InRangeTV.
Totally different rifles. Mine was designed for combat reliability and WWSD for decreased weight.
@@SmallArmsSolutions I take it you see some short comings with the WWSD rifle? Is there anything in particular? Where do you think the oversights in their choices are? Or do you disagree with the emphasis on weight reduction? Do you think there were any serious compromises made? Am I asking too many questions?
@@IdiotandOpinion wwsd isn't about building a combat rifle per say. Its about building an AR15 with the design philosophy stoner had in the 50s, which if you remember, wasn't "immediately" combat ready either. The platform went through a development phase in order to get it to that point.
There's a possibility that it is in fact a perfectly fine combat weapon, but that testing hasn't been done, nor was it designed around that notion.
I wonder how necessary a heavy barrel would be for most of us using semiauto only would be. Honest question. Currently looking at one of BCM’s enhanced lightweight barrels. Ounces add up to pounds and I’m always looking for where I can afford to shave a few off.
I like your choice of rifle.
It is really nice. Good to know that hyper fire is a solid trigger. But, goddamn it looks heavy as hell! Haha, I think I might be a weenie. You are a big dude, so it seems to work perfectly for you.
It was designed for a .50 caliber rifle and was adapted to the AR. Terry Bender was the designer of it and owns Hipfire. Super nice guy, taught me how to shoot when I was a kid about 15 years ago.
Faxon says there nitride barrels are more accurate and last as long ...just putting that out there ..SOLGW also claim that to...just sayn ...I am a fan of hammer forged but I just watched the video were they claim this and I was kinda surprised
Really nice rifle
ARMS stopped making that pin on flip up sight, as did others like GG&G. Very sad. Maybe you could encourage ARMS to consider manufacturing it again.
I could never afford that rifle if my life depends on it
great range gun...
No flashlight?
It seems like ounces =pounds pounds =pain applies to everything except firearms in the military. Up until very recently that is. A 6 lb 556 is easier to shoot in every way but prone off a rest than a 9 lb rifle with a bunch of shit you you don’t need. I don’t understand the philosophy behind this rifle. It’s to heavy to really be mobile but doesn’t have the magnification to reach out past a couple hundred yards either. What’s the point of a bomb proof rifle if it doesn’t excel at anything particular. I would be very interested in that lower with the option of an spr type upper with that rail or an mlock style streamlined upper that is more focused on weight than than attempting to do everything in one package
4:47 ok but we all know what it's really for,
Skittles
This seems like the perfect rifle for 2004.
Truth be told most of the parts here are pretty archaic by modern standards durable and bomb proof but way too heavy. Most lightweight built rifles are really strong since they use Titanium in thinks like the bolt carrier and trigger components which drastically reduce weight while not sacrificing durability.
Nick Graham True but lets he honest some of those still serve a purpose and work, if it ain’t broken why fix it?
@@acries3148 If ordnance corps had their way with that mindset, we would still be using the M14. Change isn't always a bad thing, especially in firearms technology
Clearly_ I meant the 1913 rail system is still relevant, I’m all for advancements in weapons, m14? Pass lol
Acries 314 Picatinny isn’t obsolete per say, but more “obsolescent.” In the world of Keymod and MLOK, picatinny rail is simply too heavy and too bulky. It works, but it’s very outclassed today by newer systems.
Clearly_ Very true, but it sure takes a beating that’s for sure.

What does length of barrel have to do with accuracy? Velocity I understand....
J. Buer in theory it can change the rigidity of the barrel. Stiffer barrel -> more accurate gun. Minimal difference tho
Where's that parts list again?
Would the barrell length be the same if you went to .308 or 6.8 spc?
Donn Greenwald the .308 would be a 18 in bbl
