A tragic, desolate, dramatic, gorgeous, gut-wrenching masterpiece. From its engrossing opening measures to its evocative, emotionally stagnant conclusion, this Quartet is a memorable experience. I could call it Shostakovich's Sixteenth Quartet, but it attains a depth and eloquence that exceeds any of the latter's masterpieces in that genre.
