This was the most free the Russian people ever were during the brief period between the collapse of the USSR and the rise of Putin. There was so much hope of a free and open relationship with Europe and the West.
As tired as I am of this song, this live version is my absolute favorite. I love the crowd, I love the energy, I love how they sounded. This whole concert (Black Crows, Pantera, Metallica and AC/DC) was history in the making. Monsters of Moscow will never be repeated.
I can't even imagine what it would be like to be part of a crowd that big. How did any the people near the front even survive?? I suppose that's the wrong question since people died and so many were injured. Did the band ever comment on how they felt about that particular concert's consequences and the lack of crowd control? I remember in the '90s there was an outcry against mosh pits. A lot of women were grateful for large men who helped them out, but more often had horrifying stories.
@@jackiegoodspeed1849 Not so much at rock and metal concerts. I've been to plenty (including Metallica 5 times), and none of the fans fight. The only thing that makes me sad about this concert is how the Russian soldiers treated the crowd because they didn't understand what they were doing in the mosh pits. Tragic that almost 60 people died and countless others were beaten with batons at their hands.
Funny thing about this song is that you think you never want to hear it again. And then you do and you remember how great it is. And the cycle repeats….

When James Hetfield (lead singer),was asked how it felt to perform in front of that sea of humanity he replied it was like stepping out of a swimming pool straight into a wall of electricity. This performance was at the Moscow Music Peace Festival. Metallica and numerous other bands were the 1st to ever play their rock and metal in concert in Russia.
My wife and I are in our late 50s and we embrace it because we got to live through the BEST decades of music while in our youth. So far nothing this century comes close to the talent we had.
I'm with you. We got the tail end of the psychedelic 60's, thats when Rock started to become more experimental and interesting. ☮️ Then came the iconic 70's, the very best decade for rock imo. 🎸🎹 In the carefree 80's we got power metal, NuWave, NWOBHM, and hair bands. 🤘 When the glitter and spandex got out hand, 90's grunge brought it back to reality. 🎸 From there it's been downward spiral of disposable auto tune pop garbage. 🤮 I'm sure many will disagree, but that's how I see it.
This was one of (if not the first time - 1991) they (Americans) were allowed to play in Russia.. This is Monsters of Rock Festival in Moscow. These 1.6 million fans are from all over in the first free open air concert.
This was the second. The first was the Moscow Music Peace Festival where Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions, Cinderella, Skid Row and Gorky Park played to 200,000 people. But this one had a much bigger crowd, estmates ran between 600,000 to 1,000,000!
The first time Americans and hard rock acts from other countries played in Russia was the Moscow Music Peace Festival. That was 1989 and the song Wind of Change by The Scorpions was written about this festival. A lot of people assume Wind of Change was written about the fall of the Berlin wall but it was about the fall of the USSR.
@@OregonSilverStacker 54, apparently. But considering the metal head crowd, the iron fisted authorities, and the crowd's and authority's lack of respect for each other, ONLY 54 dying is impressive. Russian authorities would have normally locked this crowd up for what they were wearing (American jeans and concert tee shirts) and listening to (American music.)
I've seen this Metallica video many times, and the size and energy of that crowd in Moscow in 1991 still amazes me and makes me smile. Sad that things have changed for the worse in that part of the world.
Maybe once Putin finally Exits Light and some freedom and justice is restored, maybe Metallica can go back and have an even bigger show!! We can but hope.
What makes this specific concert truly special and in fact, historic, is that this was performed as the Soviet Union was collapsing. They were some of the first American Artists to perform in the Soviet Union, which is why there was 1.5 million people in attendance. This was their first taste of freedom and expression.
This concert was the greatest ever . 1.6 million fans watching Metallica, AC/DC, The Black Crowes and Pantera . They didnt call it the Monsters Of Rock concert for nothing . My first introduction to Metallica was this song . Then i went through their past songs and found their greatest one Master Of Puppets . That song is absolutely seamless in its transitions.
If you want to see how truly talented Metallica is. I recommend their album S&M. Metallica and the San Francisco symphony. They are absolutely amazing.!
This album got me in trouble. Innocent 23 year old me didn’t know what s&m was. I worked in a cd store. My customer was looking for Metallica. I was like oh yeah the s&m one. He was like what? I said yeah Symphony and Metallica. My supervisor told him, “she really doesn’t know.” It was years before I understood what had happened.
Amber's Sandman is the one from the Chordettes, a female harmony group from the fifties. "Mr Sandman, bring me a dream, make him the cutest I've ever seen..."
@@ChanelStuff No, it was the Chordettes. There are a couple of videos on You Tube claiming to be the Andrews Sisters but they are actually the Chordettes singing. There is one legit video of them singing a live cover of it at a tribute show, but they are much older then, maybe in their late 50's or early 60's. They never released a recording of it, though it wouldn't surprise me if someone found a video of them covering it when they worked on the Lawrence Welk show in the same era. It was a very popular song and they did cover lots of popular songs that they never released as a recording on that show.
@@ChanelStuff You know, that is a good assumption! I think because of the harmonies and all female group it is stylistically in their wheelhouse? The Andrews started singing in the late 30's and last charted in 1950--I had to look that up--you had me guessing my memory! Mr Sandman was written in 1954 and the Chordettes took it to #1. There is an Andrews Sisters tribute group on RUclips singing this song but I didn't watch it to see if they misattribute it or just lumped it in because it fits the genre.
This concert created epic history. A veritable sea of people. Just imagine the energy back and forth between the band and that many people. I imagine it was a feeling one would never, ever forget.
I’m 54, the first time my son had this playing I instantly fell in love with Metallica! I was in highschool in the 80s and have been to a lot of 80s hair band concerts! My son seen Metallica in concert but it’s still on my bucket list!!
Legends say that people are still coming home from this concert. lol Softie Amber would definitely like Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters". Elton John praised it as a one of the best songs ever written.
Saw them in concert in Calgary. Instead of floor seating, the whole centre ice was a raised stage so they could walk around and play at people front to back. Nobody had a bad seat. The muscles at the back of my neck burned sooo bad the next day! 😆

This was the first major metal concert (Monsters of Rock) in the former Soviet Union after the fall of the Berlin wall. These people had been waiting decades for this!
Master of Puppets- Metallica. Epic classic heavy banger that is one of the greatest songs of all time. Amazing musicianship and time for you guys to react to it!
YES! It would be very timely for you to do Master of Puppets soon, since it was heavily featured in Stranger Things this summer and everyone is talking about it. It might get you a lot views and new people if you hit that one soon and ride the wave.
Seeing Amber rock out to this is awesome! Their live footage is awesome even if the sound quality isn’t always good. Hit some more studio versions. “Master of Puppets” is a standard for reactors and is a powerful song. The first album “Kill ‘em All” is HARD! “Anesthesia: Pulling Teeth” and “Whiplash” should be played together and would be an awesome next choice as well.
Lars! The amazing part is you are STILL able to feel the power of Metallica live. Idk where you guys live but they still KILL a live show. Imagine after witnessing this song live and you barely have time to catch your breath when they rip into another epic masterpiece that will get your heart pumping AGAIN. Now imagine 120 minutes of THAT.
Took my 15 & 16yr olds to see Metallica play live in Seoul Korea. Baby Metal opened for them, and put in one heck of an opening. Metallica ROCKED the house. -Baby Metal would be a unique Female Friday. -Greatly enjoy the channel and great vibes from Tejas...
@@derekwolfe5323 How about Babymetal's "Rondo Nightmare" for great instruments or Babymetal at the start with"Doki Doki Morning." They are my favorite group, and I would love to see anything they've done here. A perfect group for female Fridays with the youngest act to sell-out Wembly Stadium.
I have always liked the crowd shots of this concert. The soldiers you see were supposed to be crowd control but if you watch as the song goes on they get more into it until they are dancing with out their shirts on. I don’t know if anyone else has mentioned this but Metallica holds a Guinness World Record at least up to 2017 cuz they are the only band to do a live concert on all seven of the continents.
Y’all would know this from Virginia Tech Football, it’s their stadium hype song and it’s absolutely monumentally ground shaking when the crowd gets behind it!
This song was the entrance music for the greatest closer of all time New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera. When Enter Sandman hit in Yankee Stadium it meant game over for the opposing team. Fun fact, during Mariano's final all-star game appearance Metallica played Sandman live as he jogged out from the bullpen to the pitchers mound. No song is more synonymous with a sports figure than Enter Sandman with Mariano Rivera
“Harvester or Sorrow” same 1991 Moscow show. Also “Disposable Heros” live Mexico City. Honestly, there’s dozens to choose from. We are all here for it. 🤟
I am 63yrs old and not a huge Metallica fan but I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG. head bang to it every time I hear it. Also love the historical background of this performance.
Agreed. Opening (Extacy of Gold/Good, bad & ugly into Call of Kutulu into Master of Puppets without a break) is excellent, but for me One is taken to a whole new level with the Orchestra giving as good as they get. For whom the bell tolls & Wherever I may roam too, but the list goes on...
Watching their reactions, the Moscow crowd reactions, reactions at every sporting event ever... this song fires crowds up more than any other in the history of music.
The crowd is just jaw dropping. Metallica has as many hits all.most as many fans. They are so strong, back in the day they collectively cut all their hair off. It was a bit of a media thing. But many said they had sold out. They came.back with one of their best albums and tours. Their stage presents is just scary. Thanks for this smile.
There are some songs that are just iconic because they go far beyond the music. The ECW wrestler Sandman entered the ring to this song, Mariano Rivera came out of the bullpen to this. Such a great song!
And it played through the whole match sometimes! It’s a good thing he didn’t take on New Jack, because whose theme song would they have played all the way through? “Enter Sandman” or “Natural Born Killaz” by Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. LOL
I've seen them 5 times starting in 1988 and nost recently in 2017. They've been awesome everytime, but the best show for me was in 1992 in Oakland, CA on their tour with Guns n Roses. It was after James's pyro accident up in Toronto and James hadn't been playing guitar. At our show, he did the whole concert with no guitar, but for the Enter Sandman encore, he strapped it on and we all went CRAZY!!! Best concert I've been to.
@@that1dragonkid Hell yeah I remember that concert Body Count opened for them here in San Diego and the place was full of SDPD and James got on guitar and played Sandman place exploded
@@ramonllica We were blown away by Metallica! After their set, it took nearly 2 hours for GnR to take the stage. Fans in the infield got restless and started tearing up the turf and destroyed the pitcher's mound! I remember seeing very large pieces of grass being tossed in the air. It was crazy. Then, they finally came out and (in my opinion) sucked!
@@that1dragonkid We got Metallica to come out before GnR I think they took turns so Axl wouldn't get mad lol but yeah Metallica was on fire they were the well oiled machine at that point GnR couldn't keep imo with them.
Metallica has soooo many great songs. I love how James is just cool as a cucumber at the beginning, Standing there playing and looking out in the crowd knowing that what is happening at that moment is absolutely Historical, Epic and may never been topped....EVER!!! Great reaction fellow Oklahomans.
The piece of music played at the beginning is called The Ecstasy of Gold and anyone who has ever seen Metallica in concert knows they used this piece of music to open all their shows because they felt it built the anticipation up to fever pitch then BAM here comes Metallica!
I first heard this song when I worked security at a club that had a niteclub and also a live music bar. One band at that time played this and their guitarist could play it too perfection. I looked forward to it every night they were on.
INCREDIBLE LIVE! The energy and volume is killer. The fans make it a unifying moment that west & east can come together. Music can do that. The talent of Metallica is unquestionable.
I feel like you guys missed the lyrics in the “slowed down” part. It’s not just slowed down-it’s ominous. The child saying the Bedtime Prayer leading into James’s menacing delivery: “Hush little baby, don’t say a word, and never mind that noise you heard. It’s just the beast under your bed, in your closet…in your head.” Best part of the song, IMO. *Correction: not the “Lord’s Prayer”. Thank you Darrin.
A little correction. . . The Lord's Prayer begins Our father, who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name. I learned that other prayer as a child to keep me safe while I sleep.. Just saying.
Lead singer-James Hetfield, Lead guitarist-Kirk Hammett Formerly positioned by Dave Mustaine who left to pursue Megadeath, Drummer-Lars Ulrich, Bass guitar-Jason Newstead in this video...Original Bassist-Cliff Burton who tragically passed away, current bassist-Robert Trujillo who joined from Ozzy Osborne. Metallica is an extremely powerful band. Their music is very orchestrated, they convey emotional value very accurately with their instrumental, and nearly all of their songs lyrics posses deep context telling a story...Personally I think all their songs are quite amazing, and though many aren't too keen on it, they are quite versatile. Metallica has been through a lot together as a band, and has been pounding out amazing music since the 1980's and are still very prominent today. They have one of the largest fan bases. It's hard to say which song to recommend, but there is no wrong choice...My personal Favorite is "Fade to Black"
Mustaine was kicked out of the band when they were in New Jersey recording their first demo tape with a small record label...Dave is a complete POS when he's drunk, and he was drunk all the time back then, so he forcefully was made to pack his crap and gtfo....
Actually Dave Mustane was fired by the band for his heavy drug and alcohol abuse. Which is ironic coming from a band that was widely known as Alcoholica
@@timcook6566 true he was fired, but I did watch something where the band admitted that they have no bad blood with him, that it was more for hype than anything.
@@timcook6566 You're right about Mustaine, however, it worked out good for him since he formed Megadeth and created his own way to heavy metal godhood.
I saw them live when this great album came out in the early 90's, and you are correct about the drums hitting you in the chest. I was in the front row, and I felt every bass kick as if someone was standing there patting me on the chest. Great concert. No opening act. Just about 3 hours of Metallica. And for this song (the one they opened the show I attended with), wait until you hear the album version. Then you'll really appreciate it a lot more than this live version. Actually being able to hear everything clearly. Studio versions should be first - then a great live version after you already know the song. It's just science.
I'm so glad how excited you guys are about Metallica!!... My favorite band of all time!! 🤘 Definitely check out more of them!... You'll go down a long, heavy ,kick-ass journey!!... Enjoy and don't forget to "Bang Your Head!! 🤘😝🤘
Probably my favorite Metallica song. I cannot help turning this wide open when riding down the road and it comes on the radio. The audio in the studio version is much better but this live has to be seen for the shear audience there. Don't recall if you did it already but their song "The Unforgiven" is also really good.
I agree, when it comes to "reacting" to a song for the first time it should be based on the Studio Version. If you want to follow up later with a live interpretation, cool. But do the Studio Version first as it was intended to be heard.
This performance was historical. There was over a quarter of a million Russians at the concert. This was a live performance in Moscow. So many people knew this would be a one time performance, once in a lifetime chance to see Metallica. And they all came from all over Russia. There were fences in the middle of the crowd. But so many people showed up they knocked them down. The entire stage was surrounded, the crowd in front was just a portion of the people. It was literally an ocean of people rocking out to Metallica. There has never been a turn out like this before or since, this was the biggest performance ever. Now you should listen to Harvester of Sorrow. It's begining starts with a very familiar chant of, 'All we owe, We owe her' , from the 1950s movie Wizard of Oz. It the chant that the wicked witch of the East's soldiers chant as they are going into the castle.
there were 1.6 million people there. Before this the soviet union had dictatorial control of every aspect of their lives. When the USSR fell, russians finally got a taste of metallica and several other great bands. But I'm not sure where you got the 250,000 number because it was over 6 times that many 👍
Amber's innocent vision of the Sandman was the norm for decades before Metallica. Listen to "Mr. Sandman" by the Chordettes. It was a huge hit in the 50's and one of the best examples of the tight and complex harmonies popular back then.
@@kaybee4143 I'm not aware of any Bill Haley recording of the song. There were a couple other artists who covered it, but the big hit that was all over the radio was by the Chordettes.
This is the type of song where, no matter how mild-mannered you are, you may literally throw your own dog through a wall just out of sheer excitement lol
Metallica is my all time favorite band. They got me through some tough times. It sounds cliche, but it doesn't make it less true. HIGHLY recommend "Orion" from Master of Puppets, great instrumental. And for flat out speed, try "Whiplash" from Kill em All. "Sad but True" from The Black Album is super heavy, or "The Thing That Should Not Be" from Puppets as well...im so glad you guys are loving this. Sidenote, "The Good the Bad and the Ugly" is played before every show they do. The drummer is Lars Ulrich, and believe it or not he's the least talented member of the band lol.
Saw Metallica at the Astrodome with Guns N Roses and Faith No More back in the early 90s. Still a vivid memory. The crowd, the energy, the sheer awesomeness of the music was something to experience. ✌️🤠
Being a songwriter, musician and vocalist myself and have played in several metal and rock bands over the years, this is one of my favorite bands. When you said about how good of musicians they are and how good the band is, you're right about that. And with that being said, here's a story. Their first bass player (Cliff Burton) died from when their tour bus had crashed and fliped over several times. So later on they dediced to auditioned for a new bass player. The guy who they picked is the guy here in this video who's name is Jason Newsted. However, one of the people who audtioned for the band was the bass player Les Claypool for the band Primus. And according to the two founding members of Metallica (drummer Lars Ulrich and lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield) in an inverview that I watched. They said that they didn't take him because they thought that he was to good of a bass player for their band, so they passed on him. Can you get that! They said that he was to good of a bass player to have him in their band. Now I've heard Les and he is very good, but how good must you be for Metallica not to hire you for their band from an audition. That's crazy!
I think that's not what they meant. I think what they really meant is that if they hire a top class musician with 10 years classical study on his back, it will be very hard for them to work with him, because they need a certain sound for the band. And if bass player, for example, will be "too good" - he will try to imply his knowledge in their songs, which will change the sound of the band completely. Or just because it would be hard for Lars to keep up with him...
@@z483gk Well, I'm just telling you exactly what they both said in the interview that I saw on tv a while back with both of them together. I actually heard them both say that when asked about him. They both said "He was too good". So you can read into it differently or think it meant somehting else but I'm just saying what I heard them say. So you would have to take that up with them if you think they meant something different, because you wouldn't know what they really meant by it unless you were to actually talk to them.
Virginia Tech's football team enters the stadium to Enter Sandman and all the people in the stands start jumping up and down. One of the best entrances. It has registered on Richter scales.
This was the riff that Mariano Rivera of the Yankees, one of the greatest closers of all time, would come out to. Exit light. Enter night. In other words, lights out! And I'm a red sox fan... but still much respect for the greatest.
I forget who the announcer was at the time, but once Mo came out and they played the riff and he said, "Enter Sandman. He puts you to sleep." It was great.

It is Virginia Tech that uses this as their pre-game walkout song and I highly recommend looking up a video and checking it out if you haven't seen it. It isn't 1.6 million Russians but 50k students and fans jumping up and down and singing is really fun. It shows up on seismographs since they are sensitive machines and there's not really a whole lot that goes on in rural Virginia.
I've been a Metallica fan since the early 80s. I still weep for Cliff Burton. My favorite songs of theirs are Creeping Death, Breadfan and Blitzkrieg, just to name a few. I'm 54 years old and they are still my favorite band. Love you guys!

We got the tail end of the psychedelic 60's, thats when Rock started to become more experimental and interesting. ☮️
Then came the iconic 70's, the very best decade for rock imo. 🎸🎹
In the carefree 80's we got power metal, NuWave, NWOBHM, and hair bands. 🤘
When the glitter and spandex got out hand, 90's grunge brought it back to reality. 🎸
From there it's been downward spiral of disposable auto tune pop garbage. 🤮
I'm sure many will disagree, but that's how I see it.

It's hard to take any current music serious, it's annoying enough to put me in a bad mood.
Oh how the times have changed. 🤦
Supposedly like over 50 people died in this concert or this festival
@@OregonSilverStacker 54, apparently. But considering the metal head crowd, the iron fisted authorities, and the crowd's and authority's lack of respect for each other, ONLY 54 dying is impressive. Russian authorities would have normally locked this crowd up for what they were wearing (American jeans and concert tee shirts) and listening to (American music.)
I've seen this Metallica video many times, and the size and energy of that crowd in Moscow in 1991 still amazes me and makes me smile. Sad that things have changed for the worse in that part of the world.
Very very sad. And ours.
Yes; just like Vietnam, Cambodja, Korea, Iraq, Syria, Libia, Afghanistan, Jemen, Somalia.
And it seemed so promising after the wall came down in Berlin!!
Maybe once Putin finally Exits Light and some freedom and justice is restored, maybe Metallica can go back and have an even bigger show!! We can but hope.
They are victims to the Master of Puppets, just like the rest of us.
What makes this specific concert truly special and in fact, historic, is that this was performed as the Soviet Union was collapsing. They were some of the first American Artists to perform in the Soviet Union, which is why there was 1.5 million people in attendance. This was their first taste of freedom and expression.
Not even close, motley crue, bon jovi, ozzy ,skid row along with the scorpions did a show there before this happened
The US is collapsing under the President!!
AC/DC, not an American band, headlined this concert in 1991.
Yes!!!! Lars Ulrich is the drummer. THE UNFORGIVEN, WHEREVER I MAY ROAM and NOTHING ELSE MATTERS are all soooo good too! ❤️

If you want to see how truly talented Metallica is. I recommend their album S&M. Metallica and the San Francisco symphony. They are absolutely amazing.!
No Leaf Clover off the S&M album just takes you to another place! Solid album through and through!
I consider the S&M album a greatest hits album. It definitely doesn't disappoint.
This is always my go to recommendation for new Metallica fans. So their true talent can be showcased and appreciated.
Agreed. I was not much of a Metallica fan until I heard the S&M album. It takes their music to a whole other level.
Amber's Sandman is the one from the Chordettes, a female harmony group from the fifties. "Mr Sandman, bring me a dream, make him the cutest I've ever seen..."
I thought it was the Andrew's Sisters
@@ChanelStuff No, it was the Chordettes. There are a couple of videos on You Tube claiming to be the Andrews Sisters but they are actually the Chordettes singing. There is one legit video of them singing a live cover of it at a tribute show, but they are much older then, maybe in their late 50's or early 60's. They never released a recording of it, though it wouldn't surprise me if someone found a video of them covering it when they worked on the Lawrence Welk show in the same era. It was a very popular song and they did cover lots of popular songs that they never released as a recording on that show.
And the grit by our eyes when we wake is ‘sand’

And since they were up 1st at that concert they hold the record as the 1st band to play in the USSR.

This song was the entrance music for the greatest closer of all time New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera. When Enter Sandman hit in Yankee Stadium it meant game over for the opposing team. No doubt others will have already explained why this was a genuinely historic moment and the size of the crowd.
Truly EPIC.
This is light years beyond epic

Dre. LOL

35 years later and I still get goose bumps when I listen to this song! Greatness never dies 🤟🏻

The child saying the Bedtime Prayer leading into James’s menacing delivery:
“Hush little baby, don’t say a word,
and never mind that noise you heard.
It’s just the beast under your bed, in your closet…in your head.”
Best part of the song, IMO.
*Correction: not the “Lord’s Prayer”. Thank you Darrin.
A little correction. . . The Lord's Prayer begins
Our father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name.
I learned that other prayer as a child to keep me safe while I sleep.. Just saying.
The story telling, the music, the energy - gotta love Metallica

Most of these people were tasting freedom for the first time. The emotion pouring out of them is inspiring

The audio in the studio version is much better but this live has to be seen for the shear audience there. Don't recall if you did it already but their song "The Unforgiven" is also really good.
Their music is no head banging. They are true artists and legends. So going strong after 40 years! Their music rocks this world!

Love this reply! Just FYI Wizard of Oz came out in 1939, believe it or not!
They now need to listen to Gorky Park - Bang
there were 1.6 million people there. Before this the soviet union had dictatorial control of every aspect of their lives. When the USSR fell, russians finally got a taste of metallica and several other great bands. But I'm not sure where you got the 250,000 number because it was over 6 times that many 👍
Amber, your version of the Sandman story is the same one I was told!
Amber's innocent vision of the Sandman was the norm for decades before Metallica. Listen to "Mr. Sandman" by the Chordettes. It was a huge hit in the 50's and one of the best examples of the tight and complex harmonies popular back then.
I came here to suggest this! The song couldn't be more opposite to this in almost every way, but is just so good!
>>>It was a huge hit in the 50's
@@kaybee4143 I'm not aware of any Bill Haley recording of the song. There were a couple other artists who covered it, but the big hit that was all over the radio was by the Chordettes.
Or just read (or watch, now) Neil Gaiman's Sandman.
another vision for ' the sandman' ; gangsta-slang for the person who puts one asleep permanently , slang for ' hired killer' ....

Their smallest show was in 2013 in Antarctica called Freeze em all.
It had 120 people, and they can say that they have played on all seven continents.
Mariano Rivera used it for years as well for the Yankees

It is Virginia Tech that uses this as their pre-game walkout song and I highly recommend looking up a video and checking it out if you haven't seen it. It isn't 1.6 million Russians but 50k students and fans jumping up and down and singing is really fun.

The intro he recognized as a Good The bad and The ugly it it's called the Ecstasy of Gold the live version but they play without the symphony in Copenhagen and you will hear a very short but extremely intense guitar solo from Kirk that is one of a kind
The energy is incredible in the live version...however I believe they hit the notes way better in the studio version.
AMERICA!!!! The band, the concert, the song, the crowd and the context. Truly a legendary video and I love how James is the ultimate Rock God in that surreal moment in history.
This wasn't in the USA hun...
@@theintern7472 oh I know, it was in Russia on an air force base I believe. Monsters of Rock 1991? May have been the first time the crowd was able to see this type of show after the falling of the Berlin wall a couple of years prior. I get goosebumps every time I see the crowd and their faces. 100% pure American Heavy Metal turned up to 11.
@@derekhudson3523 Sorry, My bad lol
My name is Mikael, I am the wife of Adam whom is the person of this page, My son Dustin, passed away when he was 17 and was very fortunate see his favorite band before he passed. I as his mother started introducing him to Metallica when he was just before a year old, I'm 56. They have been a part of my family for over 30 years, I love them and I truly love the both of you.
You ought to see them in person. They are freaking amazing.
Hi Jay, Amber, love seeing you both rocking with Metallica's LIVE concert, Moscow. The crowd is unbelievable...Peace🤙☝️😌
I remember watching them live one of the bast bands ever.
Went to the concert during the Black tour. Fire! 🔥
OMG!!! My favorite Metallica song!!!!
Mine as well!! ❤️🎶
I finally gotten to see them last year in Daytona. Finally! Finally! Finally! Y’all gotta do Jonny Lang and his song Lie to Me. It’s a bluesy soul type song. EDIT: Y’all should watch the original Enter Sandman video also. It’s more nightmarish. And also do Orion. It’s all instrumental. Beautifully done!
And decades later they are still rocking stadiums and arenas! I've been to 10 Metallica concerts in my days (and will be adding another if they ever announce any dates for LA in the future) and everytime they put on a masterful performance. These guys are the show of shows! This video in particular is quite amazing. Not just because of the overall energy, but what this festival meant during that time with everything that had transpired. Pure awesomeness!
Sofi Stadium was KILLER!!!
Metallica must be the best rock band in history, this performance was immense. I must see them live, they are now on my bucket list. I've listened to their music for 30 years, now I have to do something about it. Amazing.
Ok Metallica is great but you need to revisit Queensryche! Take hold of The Flame(1984 live in Tokyo), I Don’t Believe in Love, Suite Sister Mary, The Thin Line, Operation Mindcrime, Jet City Woman, Silent Lucidity, Empire, The Killing Words, The Whisper. Just a few good ones. Lol 😂 👍🎶
Amen!
I was a fan of Metallica in the 80's, before they went "mainstream". Going mainstream is why some don't like them. Others don't like them because of the drama between them and, former member, Dave Mustaine (Megadeth lead singer). They have a slew of good songs.
This live version was performed in Russia. There were over a million people. I believe other bands played too.
This was released in 1991 and their was 3 other major bands with them and it was a free concert ,,, Queen was their also , Si it was not just this band
Yes. Would like to see you do more Metallica. I could almost recommend there entire collection of Metallica songs. This intro is something that is done at all of their concerts. You mentioned Danish Orchestra. Lars the drummer is actually Danish.
I was there :) 15 years old soviet kid, young pioneer 😂
Largest concert ever, also the only band that played on every conntient. They rocked out in antarctica.
