4 years have passed since he posted this video? I feel like calling him up right now to talk about fiero's. Everyone should call him to talk fiero, even if you are seeing this post 10 years from now.
I swear, if the Fiero looked any less than it does those would all be in the scrap heap! They are the poor man's Ferrari, and even me, the poor man, hated them after one trip in the rain or lined up against any mustang newer than 90!!
I sold my 1987 Fiero GT on a Fiero Forum in a single day. Guy showed up from a neighboring state with a trailer the next day and didn't even haggle on price. I like forums as it's a community and no one wants a bad reputation who post as most are known there.
For any FUN or COLLECTABLE car, forums and car clubs are the ONLY way to sell them. Higher sales price, faster sales, less haggling, happier buyers. Of course your buyer from there will have stories too, but you only have to listen to them once!
Was this a rant party.. ur a used car dealer.. sounds like u caused the issue of the failed sales..for the whole time u had it.. it was never sold as a sports car.. it was a economical 2 seater.. the failure was u mr art of the deal.. ive had 7 fieros bought and sold driven and loved..
That's a bit mean. Watch his other videos you'll see he's not like that. Heck. You can get that from this video. Go on any decent car forum and all the car guys have horrible stories about trying to sell their finished projects.
You realize you have become one of us now. Now every time you see a Fiero with it's owner you'll tell them YOUR story about how hard it was to sell and that it took a year to get it off the lot.
Wow, a used car salesman complaining about how potential customers are wasting his time? Paybacks man! salesman have wasted the customer's time since the beginning of time
Unless it's a door to door salesman I'll bet your the guy that showed up asking questions to no end and had no intention of buying anything and wasting his time. Most salesman work of comish, and wasting their time costs them money not you. They offer you a service and usually try and save you money and truthfully want to make there customers and store proud. Most customers couldn't give a shit about them, and take them for granted . Just saying. Peace
@@bloodystinktube321 how so everyone i know with an 88 has power steering and the cradle is different because of the suspension upgrade in 88 which was the last year they were made. on a side note i think the manual steering is better for the winter months lol
Shit, he don't like cars..."cars just makes me money"... everybody knows stories will be told with older cars. He should always do detailed videos of cars that are for the nation! Oh yeah just get a website instead of ebay!...n 7500 for a fiero, u stupid...55 35 2500 everybody knows that's it!
I Had an '87 FIERO & Loved It Till Someone T-Boned Me.. Tried to Swap Engine into an '85 and Was Not Compatible without Modifications. I Have a 2012 JEEP LIBERTY; Got It Wrecked & Rebuilt It. They Are Best For In-Town Grocery Getters.. Not a Highway Vehicle as it is UnderPowered and Blows Around on a Windy Day.. Glad To See Things Worked Out For You.. Nice to see an Individual Straight Forward and Outspoken. Keep It Up!!
@@jeepguy220 can't afford a extra $3000 car, your in the wrong business.... I have 3 toy cars boosted Civic, fiero gt, c5 z06. My garage is full and 3 vehicles in my driveway.. I would love a car lot for space.
I’ve had my 85 gt 4 speed for about a year now. It didn’t run when I got it and it sat for 10+ years before I bought it. It runs now but the idle bounces up and down, had to put all new brakes on it and lines, egr valve, spark plugs, battery, still runs rough and the alternator is out now. Certainly the car of endless repairs right now.
austin stringfield did you ever check the vacuum lines? I had the same idle issues with my 84, traced the vacuum lines and found most of them were not split but instead were collapsed and it wasn’t allowing air to pass through...just a thought. If the check engine light is on and you get code 35 then I bet that’s what the issue is..
Sometimes novelty pieces bring in buyers for the more practical vehicle. They show the kids the car they had in high school and then sign up on the caravan. Sit the novelty car on the corner with a big red bow on top. Cheap advertising.
Yeah I agree. It brings people in. Craig's just too nice to tell people "Listen, I don't have time to reminisce". I know a Ford dealer who has 4 60's mustangs in the show room, not even for sale, just to get people through the door.
Fieros are so cool. I had one back in 1986, and it was not perfect but fun as hell and there are 1,001 sweet customizations. The market is pretty discerning because so many have issues. The fully custom guys want the cheap body and a few keeper panels. Not hard to find. The rest want it perfect.
Here is what happens when you try to sell a car like the Fiero or Nissan 300 ZX Toyota Supra twin turbo or Acura NSX you get lots of people who want to buy it but cant afford it and the man who can afford it he goes out and buys a brand new pick up truck.
@@Way2EasyDIY I Would love to buy your 300ZX twin turbo but I just bought a 1976 corvette and now I am having a brand new chevy crate motor 454 HO put in the car Ill have to wait on your car.
These old modern classics are a nightmare to sell at a retail dealership. Everyone wants a brand new classic. Cars of that vintage, no matter how well they have been looked after, always have faults. They are problematic and without selling someone a warranty, which they never want, because the car is so cheap, will come back to bite you. People like the idea of buying a car from their youth, and always want to tyre kick and tell you their story. The only way retailers make it work, is to specialise in classics, buy the very best with a huge markup, where they can afford to sit in them. Because these dealers specialise in them, they get real buyers. An average dealer having one classic, just gets time wasters that see something interesting on your lot.
I had a '87 silver V6 GT 5 speed stick with sunroof. The car was super fun and quick but needed lots of TLC. The headlight motors seemed to be replaced every year. Anyways, it was a GM car (which already says a lot) and needed lots of issues to be fixed. Fun but needed maintenance often.***You just stated about people talking about their Fiero..lol. Oh well, I had mine till it was totaled.***
Craig - I went through the exact same thing with an 86 Grand Wagoneer several years ago and I learned my lesson. Bought it for a song, put a ton of work into it, and honestly it nearly ate me alive. Finally got done with it, and when it was time for it to go, oh how the parade of fools kept me busy day and night. I wound up loosing about 3 grand on it to just get it out of my life. That was the last time I bought something like that with the intention of reselling later. I believe that these types of vehicles appeal to a certain person these days and are best bought with the intention of keeping. They will never make another Fiero, Olds Toronado, or fill in the blank with whatever else from that era that floats your boat. Enough time goes by, and one of those countless people who thumbs up, hoots and hollers, and raves about your sweet fiero when you take it out will eventually ask you what it will take to buy it from you. I think the car needs to find the person...not the other way around. It is a niche car that has to find the right person. Personally, if I had that Fiero, I would have been sad to see it go and would have been happy to own it until the right opportunity presented itself that was mutually beneficial. Glad you finally sold it though and great story.
Good video man. I feel you. Looks like car buyers have pretty much the same psyche around the globe but good to hear you finally sold it for a reasonable price.
I sell auto parts for a living; in other words, I try to stay happy while dealing with unhappy folks because their cars are broken down... I've done this more than anything else since I started working. I have found that the Only way to enjoy my job is not allow others' feelings to affect my feelings. Yes, they Do affect my feelings, but I work at it not making my day go South. Find a way to enjoy helping others while helping yourself... If you can't do that, it doesn't matter how good you are at flipping cars, you are in the wrong business.... Be aware, I am lecturing myself while I am lecturing you.
I bought a 87 GT and had to do a ton of work to it. Any 32+ year old car is going to have problems unless it was well maintained with very little use while being kept out of the weather. Yes they don't come with power steering so these cars aren't for wimps.
A Fiero is a niche car. Its like a Studebaker and only a Studebaker fanatic will want one. Remember, to a Hammer the whole world looks like a nail. In other words dont advertise to just any forum; stick w/the car club forums only. I dont know if you tried or not but the Fiero car clubs are who you shouldve marketed it through. With niche cars you have to hang out at their bbq hamburger hotdog get togethers. Plus, w/niche cars you are kindve stuck dealing w/ppl's feelings about the good ole days when they owned one, or had a friend that owned one. Next time you obtain a niche car (if there ever is a next time), test the Take Away technique. Prop it up on a ramp on your lot so everyone can see it w/shoe polish writing on the windshield, "Not For Sale: Display Only". Ppl always want what they cant have. When someone asks what you want for it simply respond, "Its not for sale, but I am a used car lot if your offer is right its yours but I really like it and dont wanna sell it". The fact it isnt for sale removes you from negotiations. Annnnndddd yes I do have a Fiero story; it all started back in 1987 when.......,

I briefly had an '86 Fiero GT. Sold it for what I paid for it, so I lost nothing. As long as they are in decent shape, people will scoop'em up. I had to get a more "responsible" car for daily driving. The catching fire thing is fake news, only a few Iron Duke '84 Fieros had that problem, so don't let that scare people away. The only time I was "scared" to drive it, was cross country in the middle of winter, they are barely drive-able on ice and snow, without winter tires.
👍👍Congrats on _finally_ selling it Craig! That first video you did on the Fiero is actually how I came across your channel.🤣 You got me a little excited at 10:52 when you said _”...GIVE it away...”_ 😳🏎😳... oh well here’s to hopin’ 🤣. I’ve always admired them since I saw them as a kid. Surprisingly out of the 40+ vehicles I’ve owned thru the years, I’ve never had one... from what I’ve researched I suppose that’s a good thing.😊
Problem is a dealer always charges 15% more than a private seller. As you said it's a national buyer base. And there's enough private sellers that are going to get the business rather than you.
Loved my '86! Formula nose and no rear spoiler. T Tops, 2.8L and automatic. Red over black. No problems at all with it for almost 2 years I had it. Only reason I sold it was because it was our only car and my wife was due with our first child. Man, I miss that car.
The fun i had in a Fiero the babes i met in a Fiero The nights at the drive in in the Fiero. Do you have a Fiero for sale??? If you ever find a Fiero let me know because i loved my Fiero. An 86 black with 53 gs milles would be so much fun to own a Fiero again lolll, Sorry dude i was just laughing the whole time i saw your video. But a 86 Fiero what a car to own HA HA HA !!!!!!!
Gas man Gas man I’ve got an 87 Fiero I’m currently restoring to sell. 72k miles. Runs great but some jerk painted it yellow and hit a deer in it. I love buying and selling Fieros. I’ve bought and sold 3 already.
@@1990padawan I've got an 86 with Iron Duke and 5 speed sitting in my back yard for about five years now. Body great and never been in an accident. I quit driving it because I bought an 88 GT with five speed, which is my current and ONLY driver. I've now driven a Fiero exclusively for 31 years....that is, of course, if I'm not on my motorcycle. BHE
I love Fiero. Have an '88 Fiero GT with Turbo. Goes like stink. BTW here in Vancouver some people with Fiero make good money lending their Fiero to the full industry.
If you want to hear why he doesn't like the car skip to 4:00 cause for 4 minutes straight he keeps repeating himself and never actually gets to what he doesn't like.
For an 80's American car there is always a market but YOU have to do the work to be sen in it. Find a forum, car club something that focuses in that type of car. I focus on C4 ( 84-96) Corvettes and the only way to get a good sale is through a forum.
My 86 Fiero GT has a 3800 SC motor swap from a Grand Prix GTP with the Fiero's Getrag 5 speed transmission. It's completely restored with leather interior. It's painted Cadillac pearl white. It has a whale tail on it too.
Insane that it was that hard to sell. Looks amazing for the age. Definitely one of those iconic working mans sports cars beautiful car for the cash... peoples expectations for a car that old... unbelievable
josh bishop It’s like unicorns. I hear of them but never seen one. I do know that towards the end of their production in 1993 the 2.8 has been corrected to prevent the failures that plagued the early engines.
@@chrisj197438 complete nonsense. In reality the 2.8 as pretty decent, the 2.5 was a turd. Awful engine, especially for a "sporty" little car. 90hp at best and not much you can do about it except swap it. It was responsible for fires in 84 with it's 3qt oil capacity and tendency to throw rods and oil out the side of the block where the cat lives if run low on oil. The 2.8 can be found all day long at 100-200k for sale, it's by far a unicorn.
josh bishop I’ve had two iron dukes and both served me very well and had well over 200K miles still running without problems. I do agree they should not have been in a sports car but that was the 80’s. A better choice would have been the Grand National turbo 3.8 V6 which would have made the Fiero very fast. Of course the transmissions would have been the weak link in that setup.
@@chrisj197438 just like not all 2.8s were the same, not all iron dukes were the same. The iron dukes in the Fiero could put in the miles, but it couldn't handle forced induction at all. A turbo 3.8 would have been neat but even better would have beed the 3.4 dohc with a turbo. The 3.4 dohc was an engine planned for the next generation Fiero that never was.
Maybe try the forums for the car, when you accidentally purchase another odd car. Ford Probe GT owner, I tried to sell it once, for a month 8 years ago. Fair price for the condition. One high school student ended up test driving it. Decided it wasn't a smart purchase. Probably right I guess. 8 years later I'm still enjoying it, maintaining it, subtle effective mods, collecting parts. Restoring some wheels now for it.
This is really funny actually. One of my 1st cars in high school was a 93 probe GT black 5-speed. I loved it! Still looking for one to add to my collection
93 was the best year, they had ringers, with aluminum hoods, freak engines that would walk the rest, and the lowest stock ride height by an inch, popup headlight button, and the craziest colors. If you look for one get, one that's already KLZE swapped though. None of this perfect original car nonsense, save that for work. I've got 12k miles since I swapped, shift at 7k all of the time. Probably double the power Fiero made, only weighs 100 lbs. more which is still light. Mine's a 94 and I have a 95 parts car. Try Facebooks Probetalk page, you might be able to find someone looking to sell.
Great video - welcome to the used car market where you have to deal with the car buying public. I don't know why you're "crying in your soup" - it's sorta like a car mechanic who repairs one problem on a car and a new one pops up out of nowhere. It's part of that game - Murphy's Law states - whatever can go wrong will go wrong. Some cars sell themselves and others just want to stay with you forever. Love your videos - I always learn something . Stay positive and stay safe.
The 88 Fiero GT and Formula are the only two models worth buying. I bought my 88 GT as a new car in 1987. The sticker price was $16,044. I still have it till this day.
I had a small consignment business an had to deal with the exact same people. THANK GOD I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE ! ! ! I had to close up shop because of it.
I actually completely disagree with this video, I understand what you’re saying but I have had the opposite experience buying and selling Fieros. I’ve bought and sold 3 Pontiac Fieros in the past 9 months. I bought them all under $1,500 and sold them for $4,000. Every one of mine were over 100k miles and in worse condition then the one in your video. On the other hand I know where about 5 different Fieros are for sale locally and I guess those dealers are having similar experiences as you because those Fieros have been there between 3-6 YEARS... thank you for sharing your experience, I always find it interesting how differently some peoples experiences are to mine in selling cars, for example you said you excel in selling Tahoe’s, suburban’s, jeeps, etc. those are the ones I find hard to sell in my area and I easily sell the fun cars like Fieros. But I’m not a dealership either, I just buy and sell cars as a hobby. I install Windows for a living.
They are fun to drive and I love the Fiero. I’ve gotten nothing but compliments on all my Fieros. Ladies love em. Ricers and tuners talk sht until you roast em in a race then they just drop their head and say how much they can’t believe they lost..not to mention all the available bolt ons and kits for the Fiero that are easy to find, cheap and easy to install.. then let’s chat about all the available body kits and replicas you can build with the Fiero body and frame alone.. just my 2cents.
@@Billy.Nomates I've owned 4. Fieros are slow unless you motor swap them. You can bolt the entire Fiero Store parts catalog onto a 2.8 and it will still be slow. I would not stack a stock motor Fiero up against any modern import.
Lol... I'm glad you sold it (finally). But that video (of you buying the Fiero), is exactly how I found your channel and you! I'm a huge fan, and when I get back home to NH (in my travels) I would love to stop in and meet and just say hello! We are living fulltime in our converted 1985 Blue Bird School bus (a "Skoolie") traveling all over the USA, but NH will always be "home". The Fiero was and still is a car that I wanted, but for practicality isnt a vehicle I can use due to lifestyle, and Big families. So .. I'm a (ahem) Mini Van Dad... lol Oh well. Love the Vids Craig, and Keep em coming. Love seeing NH ,and the auction place (that's the Londonderry one, right?) Cheers!!
Oh... I also used to sell cars in NH, btw. I was at AutoServe Tilton, then went to the "evil" Berlin City Dealership, in Berlin. Lol. So I love your sales stories, because I can so totally relate to ALL of them, and have a few myself.
I enjoyed this video, I had forgotten how people will call just to chit chat about the car! I also have a fiero story, when they first came out I bought one new but the insurance industry had no experience repairing the plastic body panels so the cheapest insurance I could find was $2300 a year and I was 35 at the time with a clean license so needless to say I cancelled the deal!
Oh, my. Another Fiero basher and a used car salesman at that. Each to his own so I wont bash on you. I'm a proud owner of 4, 1988 GT's. One has been mine since 1988 with over 200,000 miles when I installed a new stock engine and rebuilt the manual transmission. My other three re with manual transmissions: Two are pure stock. One is a twin turbo, balanced and blueprinted 3.4L, 300BHP. What can I say? None of mine have ever caused me grief nor have they been money pits. My first Fiero is worth what I paid for it and the others have doubled in value. They all are in excellent shape and they run and drive perfect. No problems in the past and none now. Not even a fire.
I think you're the guy he's talking about in the video. I've also owned 4 Fieros and you're blowing smoke up your own ass if you're trying to say they don't have problems that need addressed. Also, 300 crank from a "twin turbo, balanced and blueprinted 3.4L" is pretty weak.
Great video. I understand what you were going through! It's like back in '85 when I bought my Fiero. It was the best of times...it was the worst of times. It was a Black SE model, automatic. V6 with a sunroof...wait...did I lose you? Ok...so you started the video of the nostalgia of why you started your business, the nostalgia of what you did to this business...even showed your adorable son...yes, he IS adorable. It almost made me cry like I did watching Luke Skywalker appear on the Madolorian. And then....just like my wife that made me feel like shit for having an emotional reaction to a pop culture moment of yesteryear...your video, like Anni Skywalker, turned to the dark side and you began to berate me for wanting to connect with my past over a pop culture vehicle and made me feel bad for wanting to connect even with you. I mean, you come in to my home through the screen with all sorts of awesome videos and make me feel like I am important. Then I click like...and subscribe...just like I did with my wife...and the Fiero of yesteryear. And what have you done, sir? You have turned on me as has my wife has! ( that I also liked and subscribed to). And now, I realize, like my wife...you only want my attention for YOU, for YOUR channel, to only listen to YOU, like my wife. Jesus man...I think you could be my WIFE! I mean, almost 50,000 people have listened to THIS VIDEO and YOU...and I just listened to YOU basically tell me that you do NOT wish to listen to ME. IN closing, I jest..but there is ALWAYS a kernel of truth in jesting. Lighten up, bro. And if you do come across another Fiero GT automatic and clean like that one, let me know. I will buy it. After you show me some vids.
It isn't an easy thing to sell when one spark plug wire is broken, one plug wire wasn't even connected and the starter wasn't shimmed properly. But it's in good hands now and is running and driving better than ever. My buddy will be bringing her back for a sticker soon!
I remember Consumer Reports doing a review on Fiero. Their takeaway? Hard pass: looks awesome, drives like a can. They recommended the VW GTI over it. The GTI looked like a grocery getter but handled better and was significantly quicker. I worked for a used car dealer to pay my way through undergrad. The rule was any Fiero was worth $100 on trade, period. Because of oil filter interference they often never had a real oil change. The reason these cars are rare is because they were junk. I know there is a cult following, but I don't get it.
yeah... you don't... as far as driving like a can... BS- I've owned 30+ cars of every type over the years since I started driving in 1973... and The Fiero handles better- even with my 350 V8 swap in it... than any other car I've owned. It corners on rails... only thing that comes close to it is my Miata. Super fun to drive. Add the 350 V8 swap to it's weightless body... and pretty much nothing can keep up with it.
@@terryn4780 You do you. I have no problem with cult followings. I ride a ZRX1200 and you can't convince me it's not the bees knees despite evidence to the contrary. The Fiero was widely panned as crap handling in the 80s. You declaring it to be an awesome handler says more about your judgement than the car. V8 swap? Sounds fun. So does strapping a rocket to a model T, but then we aren't discussing the same car are we?
Thank you. I feel your pain. Emotion is not good when you buy a car. If you like it too much you will pay too much for it. It's good when you are selling a car. If the customer likes it too much he will pay too much for it. To you cars are a business so you shouldn't get emotionally involved with them. I love to look at videos of Fieros. I wish I'd bought one back when. Not now. I like your videos.
It's too bad I didn't know about that Fiero. I am looking for one now. I just found a Black 1988 GT that is like new except for some minor scratches, 52,000 miles, 5 Speed Gettrag, 1988 they fixed all the minor problems and some new better brakes and suspension. Guy is asking $5,500.00, but will entertain offers. By the way, he took a deposit from someone last year and the guy didn't come back. The only bad thing is ... the cassette radio. It's a southern car, and he keeps it in a heated garage. He puts it on the lawn for a week each spring with a for sale sign on it. I'm on my way to the bank today to get money out. I don't care about resale, I just want the car to drive to cruise nights, and take on a trip around town. Full insurance is about $75.00 a month.
Lol!!! I flip MGB's and modern classics in UK and totally get this! I get exactly the same calls! Know what you are saying to re about list every single blemish, they want Concours for £5k! Feel your pain mate, especially re Ebay! I only advertise in specialist classic car sites and magazines now for the classics. Not made the move to full time selling cars yet, love your vids!
Now it seems the GM executives were right about the Fiero from retrospective. There are plenty enthusiastic followers, but a commuter car is just not that practical, so few people would sum up their money for a car of little use. I would cut it so low, making it a bargain hard to refuse, ie. cut the pain short.
Wow, quite a rant. I would have taken it offline after 1 day and sell it with a package deal with a Denali or something. But hey, you wanted to be selling cars, right? So stop whining and never blame your customers when they are showing interest in your cars! Be gratefull not having to be a shoe salesmen
Hold on too it ? Why you ask , well there going too send a pontiac fiero into space in the next fast and furious film . Price is going too go up when the movie comes out and there cool again ? mark my words dude
@Peter Locke not only was in in fast and furious, but the new movie called “El Camino” features a gold Fiero. The movie is a Netflix original, I THINK. But it’s a spin off of the series Breaking Bad, which was VERY popular.. anyways it’s my 2 cents that this movie will also increase the interest in the Fiero and help make in an in demand classic again.
Had an 86 gt bought for 1,000$ never once got a check engine light 74k miles and it was very reliable. one thing i will say though is i would work on the suspension
i buy and flip cars myself,as a hobby(put them on my RUclips channel as well)..love to hunt(endless hours on Craigslist/Marketplace)and try to get the best deal and fix them if needed ,drive them until they sell..but i totally understand what he says with the people calling lol..it can be frustrating yet at same time that 1 person just shows up and buys it ..simple..no stories..no tire kicking ..not trying to talk me down on price and they are off with their new car..i like it simple ..too bad its not that easy or we all be doing it,right ? lol..I love cars !
Ha ha, I went through all this back in 1999 when I wanted to get rid of my 87 GT. Same problem, phone rings off the hook, people who ALREADY have one, wanting to talk. And back then, you had something called an "answering machine", that would fill up with messages going nowhere. You have to pay somebody to take this priceless gem of a car that society loves so much, until they get in it.
Your video was a big help to me. I think you saved me from a future anxiety attack. I have an opportunity to buy a GT that is not as nice as yours for $2k. It’s running and driving (at least for now). I was thinking of flipping it but not now. Thanks again…
Brilliant video. Nice job. I thought about posting a funny comment , but didn't. At least that car pulled a great video out of you. I like what I saw and heard and others did too. So a small win, mate.
Man, just love your attitude, really I do. I've been looking for the right Fiero for over a year. I need a track toy, so it has to be a rust free 1988 WS6. I don't care if it runs or not. But I only call sellers who I can get to in four hours or 300 miles. And those sellers are Knuckleheads! I've gone to look at few and they, dealers included, tell me how nice the car is over the phone. When I get there I'm told how much they love this piece of crap that is supposed to be so 'like new'. Flaking clear-coat will buff out. One guy asked me to help him work on the one he's trying to sell. I guess it goes both ways. Thanks for your insite as a business owner.
The people that want the car. So they can have a fun car and a project. I got a 1985 Fiero gt notch back! 2.8 105,000 miles for 1200 plus extra parts. I have only change the water pump. And drive it all the time. You sell fast flip cars. Stop crying. Stay in your market!!! You have it way over priced!!! If you were smart. You would have put it on your lot as is. And let it sit. It would sell itself!!! You sell newer running cars. So they move fast cause that's why you know. And they are newer low mileage cars. If you were a classic or muscle car dealer. You would have a different line of customers. That car would have been sold. Before you got it out the barn!!!! I have been around classic cars 46 years. We move them like hot cake. We only make a few hundred. Over a purchase price at times. But we can move them. Cause we know what guys want them before we get them! Stick to you under 10 year old SUV. And stay out of our market. It's not for you little boys!
I totally agree with you. You are a business man. You job is selling cars. Not being a buddy buddy with every person that wants to look at the car and waste your time reminiscing about this car and what it means to them. If they want to do that they can go on the web and join a forum where he or she can talk about the car all day with other fanatics and not waste your time. I respect what you do and the fact that you do this to make a living and to support your self and your family. Because I know that I personally would not waste your valuable time that you need unless I genuinely am interested in buying the car. Unfortunately the world is not perfect. So there will be a few disrespectful airheads that will waste your time and therefore your money. Just do your best to weed out the non- buyer buyers.
People didn't even buy them in the 80s, they always tried to sell them. It is the ultimate Guido Ride, just needs Rob Base, it takes two blasting loudly!
When they first came out, dealers couldn't keep them on the lots. Plant had to work three shifts to meet demand and there were still year-long waiting lists. Sales dipped in the years that followed, but it still turned a profit for GM every year.
@@jonrev I remember all that, the overheating nixed them and you'd see them deep on used car lots. I saw two in a local wrecking yard a few weeks back, probably got there via a frustrated project.
@@GardenerEarthGuy They overheated if you didn't follow the proper fill procedure -- there's 30 feet of cooling lines running front to back which needs air burped out. GM's excuses for ending the car were rising insurance costs and a recession-fueled dwindling market for a two-seater (ironically as Mazda's Miata and RX7 were doing well, Dodge's Viper was a couple years away, and under the GM umbrella there was Buick's Reatta and Cadillac's Allante). Inside rumors, however, say there was a high-power Fiero testing that upset the Corvette team. Pontiac had a second-generation Fiero lined-up for 1990 that would've got the 3.1 V6 and a body styled like the 4th-gen F-body, that car still exists in their heritage collection.
I had a Focus SVT took 2 solid years to sell all original low mile clean car. Stories, dreamers, time wasters I've also had mustang cobras that went into bidding wars.
I believe the Fiero was a beautiful car. That said the powertrain was absolutely horrible. 140hp from a 2.8l V6. Fuel injection was a problem leading to engine fires. The body panels were plastic with a unique paint chemistry. The thing would burn resulting in a pretty looking fireball. Was heralded as the "Corvette 2.0" back in 84'....moving on.
The problem was for the early model 1984 not the one in the video also in the early models they would bend rods..and overheat....what is not talked about is how the car Wil lift and loose traction in certain situations..
I have had a Fiero as my primary driver for over 30 years and currently drive an 88 GT V6/5 speed, which I bought 10 years ago...and, I'm 81. It had 21K on it when I bought it and now has 69K.
Sucks you had a tough time moving that one. People in the Fiero buyer segment fall into two categories: 1. Too broke to afford something that's had time and money put into it, so they expect a $5000 car with zero problems for $900. 2. People who have the money and know what they want, but they'll buy a project car for nothing and do it the way they want it. Either way makes it impossible to move clean, stock Fieros for a profit. I picked up a V8 swap for a song last fall because the guy gave up on it. It's nearly done now, but I'll never make money if I sell it.
I seriously thought you sold this last year. $4200 I would have driven down with a trailer and bought it from you if I had the dough. You can't have more fun for $5500 CDN. There's one with 200K kms going for the same price up here.
I "CLICKED ON " your video because it was about a FIERO and YES I had TWO of them - a GT V-6 and a 2M4 !! Loved them both at the time BUT as I got OLDER my lower-back hurt after sitting in one driving AND I could NOT SEE over cars around me at STOP-Lights because you sit so LOW in it !! Liked your video too ! :-)
Jeez! What a rant! I do kind of understand what your saying though. It's a specialty car like you said, not the boring, common every day vehicle your used to selling. Those type of cars probably don't sit on your lot for more than a week or two & that's what you've grown accustomed too. I know you probably won't care now that's it's finally sold, but members of the Fiero community, which I am one of (1987 GT) are very dedicated to the car, but we are not extremely large in numbers & like you said, there are alot for sale & we tend to be very picky when it comes to them. I am very surprised it took so long to sell though because it was such a low mileage car, it was a GT & it was black! About the only thing I can think of is that the area your lot is in does not have a large population of Fiero enthusiasts, especially since you said most of the interest came from people outside your area. One other reason probably had to do with the fact that it still had the original V6 engine. Which, I am very glad you didn't change by the way since it was a low mileage original survivor. I am a 47 year old purist, & I like my Fiero's and most cars I by to meet that criteria & to be kept & maintained the way they were born. However, alot of the younger enthusiasts are only interested in Fiero's that have been repowered, ie...the supercharged 3.8 you mentioned or even a modern LS swap. That's my guess as why you had so many internet "tire kickers" and why it took so long for someone to actually put cash in your hand. I am willing to bet the person that did finally buy it was a true enthusiast like me & not some young kid that just wanted to beat the crap out of it. I am sad to see though that you now seem to be anti Fiero & anti classic in general, but whatever makes you money I guess. Sorry for my above book by the way!
there are few things that are music to my ears quite like a crying used car salesman.
4 years have passed since he posted this video? I feel like calling him up right now to talk about fiero's.
Everyone should call him to talk fiero, even if you are seeing this post 10 years from now.
You talked about nothing for the first 4 minutes. I came to hear the problems. Get to the point
Yes it is worse than hearing about the 1986 Fiero someone had back in 1989

Thanks for the heads up, just skipped to the 4 minute mark.
I swear, if the Fiero looked any less than it does those would all be in the scrap heap! They are the poor man's Ferrari, and even me, the poor man, hated them after one trip in the rain or lined up against any mustang newer than 90!!
Its all about getting his sheep followers to buy his merchandise and do donations
I sold my 1987 Fiero GT on a Fiero Forum in a single day. Guy showed up from a neighboring state with a trailer the next day and didn't even haggle on price. I like forums as it's a community and no one wants a bad reputation who post as most are known there.

It’s the same with older Volvo’s
For any FUN or COLLECTABLE car, forums and car clubs are the ONLY way to sell them. Higher sales price, faster sales, less haggling, happier buyers. Of course your buyer from there will have stories too, but you only have to listen to them once!
Yeah same thing with Saab’s The forum are where the real collectors of nich cars are .
Was it Pennock’s fiero forum?

That's a bit mean. Watch his other videos you'll see he's not like that. Heck. You can get that from this video.
Go on any decent car forum and all the car guys have horrible stories about trying to sell their finished projects.

LMAO that's hysterical. Fiero's are pretty cool.

Dodge sold a ton of minivans just because they got people in the door to look at the Viper.

I didn't enjoy your misery, but I did enjoy the story and I learned something about people and their money. Money talks and BS walks.:-)
You driving Nissan 350z. Yes. There are no seats in the rear.
So they're not great for you because you can't make money on them. Which means they're great for customers like us. Too bad.

For an 80's American car there is always a market but YOU have to do the work to be sen in it. Find a forum, car club something that focuses in that type of car. I focus on C4 ( 84-96) Corvettes and the only way to get a good sale is through a forum.

The ones with the iron duke engines were great. The ones with V6 was absolute junk. The 2.8 motors rarely went over 80K miles without a rebuild.
False. Keep in mind there were many different versions of the 2.8, the one in the Fiero makes it to 200k no problem.

It’s like unicorns.
The 2.8 can be found all day long at 100-200k for sale, it's by far a unicorn.
josh bishop
I’ve had two iron dukes and both served me very well and had well over 200K miles still running without problems.

Formula was going for $13.5k. Toyota had the boxy MR2 as a competitor. Fiero s were heaven for mock Ferrari kit cars as I recall.

Glad to hear! I loved having it as an owner. Hated being a seller though
Like your vids mate there real life n its good to see cheers my mate from UK
1. don't start with an unrealistic price if you want a quick sale,
2, on ebay only accept bids from people with enough goof feedback
Wow, quite a rant. I would have taken it offline after 1 day and sell it with a package deal with a Denali or something.
But hey, you wanted to be selling cars, right?
So stop whining and never blame your customers when they are showing interest in your cars! Be gratefull not having to be a shoe salesmen
I put a Ferrari 308 body on mine and it sold in a heartbeat
You mentioned Triumphs, I took a huge loss on a 1965 TR4 and a 1993 Del Sol,they are fun to look at and watch people restore but not for me anymore.
Brilliant video. Nice job. I thought about posting a funny comment , but didn't. At least that car pulled a great video out of you.
I like what I saw and heard and others did too. So a small win, mate.
It's like a mini trans am - beautiful!
👍good luck with the search. Fun renown. Pain to sell😁🤙
Love my swapped 3800 turbo fiero 😍
I have a 88GT with a LS4 ,4t65 auto and.....legal in CA.!😎
I definitely feel you on parts of your video. This part of the market is definitely not for everyone.
Hey mate. First time commenter but been watching alot of your content for a while. Can completely sympathise with you in this spot. Stick at it mate.
Maaan! In the summer of '88 I had a Pontiac Fiero....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Whining he can't sell an overpriced car...
@@jonrev
I remember all that, the overheating nixed them and you'd see them deep on used car lots.
Stories, dreamers, time wasters
I've also had mustang cobras that went into bidding wars.
People in the Fiero buyer segment fall into two categories:
LMAO! I love you! You are awesome and made me laugh because I knew exactly what you were saying
I seriously thought you sold this last year. $4200 I would have driven down with a trailer and bought it from you if I had the dough. You can't have more fun for $5500 CDN. There's one with 200K kms going for the same price up here.
Dude that was entertaining I enjoyed it.. Keep up the good work, and continuous success in your dealership...
Hey guys ChrisFix here !
I don't know why ChrisFix came in my mind while I was watching this ;)
I "CLICKED ON " your video because it was about a FIERO and YES I had TWO of them - a GT V-6 and a 2M4 !! Loved them both at the time BUT as I got OLDER my lower-back hurt after sitting in one driving AND I could NOT SEE over cars around me at STOP-Lights because you sit so LOW in it !! Liked your video too ! :-)
No the market is certainly not flooded with fieros. I find maybe 5 in a 500 mile radius for sale at any given time.
I remember a friend owned one of these. We used to do road trips, it seemed he was always stopping for gas
barely a 10 gallon tank until 88...had to
Small tanks.
I hate to see someone struggling but there is something amusing about someone's else's misery when we have been there.
very good videos u have in ur channel pal .. good job!
Why not put a sterling nova kit on it and sell it for twice as much to people that want a fully assembled nova kit?
I have a 1986 944 (951) Turbo Porsche. Wanna buy it? Triple black car with a Lindsey Racing dual port wastegate and manual boost controller!
