The First Descendant has all the building blocks of a fantastic looter shooter, but they’re buried under a pile of monotonous quests, a terrible story, and an infuriating free-to-play model that has influenced its game design in the worst possible way. In its best moments, blasting aliens apart with both fireballs and a satisfying arsenal of weapons makes for a really great time - but at least an equal portion of my time was spent battling perplexing design decisions that tested the limits of my abundant patience. Like its peers, future updates could evolve this live-service into a much more consistently enjoyable way to spend time with friends, but for now it misses the mark too often to make its grind feel worthwhile.

IGN: 120h in game. Showing 1-50lvl gameplay. 10h to unlock Freyna. Whining about grind.
Me: 65h in game. Complete all story. 7 descendants unlocked. 1 hour needed to unlock Freyna.

me 154 hours into game. 9 max level descendants and almost all Ultimate descendants 1-3 pieces from completion.
@@CareLynx2that’s because there is a bug that if you have a descendant quest tracked, the materials will not drop 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 only if you untracked it it will drop right away so it is not his fault. But yeah choose by bunny as your favorite, however….

War frame was bad at launch as well and has evolved to be better over time Im excited to see how this game evolves with time considering it’s only been out for less then a month

I'd 100% agree with you if this game wasn't Nexon affiliated. They have a history of anti-consumer greed.
The biggest issue here is not time, is Nexon themselves, their history tell us they don't spend much time working on their games after they have released.
Fingers crossed that's not the case here and they change their ways.

You have to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy it, I’ve already got bunny, ajax and frayna maxed out and I’m close to being able to research Shanon and Valby.
50+ hours, zero dollars spend.

Do you want a game you can unlock everything in one day or no? It’s a f2p game so why would they just give stuff out for free or not have a monetization structure? complaining characters take time to unlock is just silly. Also, how many variations of “shoot this enemy” in a shooting game do you want? The missions are fine, it’s a shooting game.
They expect developers to spend years on a game, give it out for free, don’t monetize, and allow you to unlock everything in 1 week…. These people are crazy
No. But not playing the game shouldn't be a step in the quest. Timegating certain steps arbitrarily only serves to inflate the unlock time while killing a player's momentum and interest in what it is they are unlocking

Your missing the point here. It's just an okay game. Microtransactions are awful, the gameplay loop is sooooo repetitive. You've seen the whole gameplay in the first 3-4 hours, boss variety is lacking, the world is boring.
It's fun but it's just a decent game

Lmfao u play destiny and don’t like the loot system. If you spent a dime on anything in this game you’re lazy. It’s really not that hard to get what you want it tells you where everything is and the drop rates are accurate. Yes the missions are a little repetitive but so is destiny and warframe. If you hate to wait just say that 😂
The game isn’t developed by Nexon. Nexon is the publisher ffs. It’s funny when IGN gets something as simple as this wrong. Legit just open the game and it even tells you who the developer is.

Repetitive missions? Fair. But show me a game without 'em... TFD already does decent job of mixing things up.
Hard to grind?.. In 78h, aside for base Ajax, Bunny and 3 other characters (Freyna, Blair and Charen), that game "gives" to you, I've got Valby and Lepic + 1 part away from Viessa and Gley. The hell were you doing these 120h!?
Also 17h to "build" new character? In Warframe its 72h, and +12h for each of 3 parts needed for it.
As for shields on bosses - they are there just so you notice the boss before he dies.😂
Lastly you modify weapon affixes with currency you craft from weapon parts you've broken down - its free.
You also get several advanced upgrading materials (analog of Warframe's Forma and blue/gold "potatoes") by just doing quests.
This game was designed to waste your life or your money, that's the only choice they gave you.

How do you make a game for 40 and 14 year olds? If a kid is going to be online 5+ hours a day with no money the game has to have a way to keep them engaged. If you have a family and work and have 5 hours a week you want something that you can put $10 into and be caught up.

The story is really bad tbh, inifite patrol missions, BUT all other stuff is pretty fun.
Its about the gameplay and unlockables. Yes some are grindy but you have the option to Pay2Skip although thats really not needed.
People are making this out to be worse then it really is. Its ALOT of fun and addicting and for a F2P titles, its just that.
if you like Warframe, Destiny, looter shooters, you will probally like this.. and can try it FOR FREE, so dont complain. 😂

Bro said it’s a better deal buying the character than the game giving you the CHOICE to grind for it. Destiny even still requires you to have to buy a specific dlc just to be able to get a specific gun smh. Plus this game is a month old from its official release it’s still too early to say it’s bad

it took me around 3 days (8+hrs daily) to get all the character's materials and this is without the waiting time for the materials to produce AND the character itself
still better than suicide squad tho
