Great lesson. I really like the way you always give two or three example of the new word in a sentence.Complement is related to COMPLETE. Compliment is related to COMPLY.You go back for more dessert (we all want more cake and ice cream), so you go back and get another S. You don't go back for more desert (who wants more hot dry sand).

English is very unique. The word compliment as verb is prnounced /ˈkɒmplɪment/. When it is used as a noun, the pronunciation changes to /ˈkɒmplɪmənt/, with a schwa sound. What a language.

I happened across your videos quite by accident, but have watched several, out of interest in how you pronounce words. I am a 68 year old, lifelong Tennessean, in the United States. That is in the SOUTHERN United States. We are kidded by northerners and westerners for our slow speech and use of many words with longer vowel sounds than used in other parts of America. I am enjoying watching your English tips. Thank you for making your videos.

Hi Emma. I've found this lesson useful. Though I wouldn't mix up the meaning and usage of those pairs of words, yet some of them I found it hard to tell the difference of their pronunciation.

Emma you remind of my days in high school I would read my dictionary in bus going home trying to figure out how words are pronounced kkk. Today I failed to get the difference in pronouncing Accept and Except.
