This is an explanation video about painting in Photoshop. Most of my tutorials are geared towards photographers wishing to do more with their images.
I demonstrate how to use the mixer brush in Photoshop for clone painting from a photograph, and I show you how to add color to your images that are not already present. I go in depth about the different settings on the tool option bar and how they effect the painted strokes, in comparison to how a traditional artist uses a paint brush.
I am searching for perfect tutorial for mixer brush tool, Now finally my search ends here. Thank you very much for this awesome tutorial.
THANK YOU for explaining what each of those top menu options means - especially comparing them to traditional media! This really helped me understand Mixer Brush Tool much better now as a painting tool instead of a cloning/stamp tool! Thank you again!
What a great tutorial- just getting started with the mixer brush. Thanks!
Wow, excellent tutorial, just what I was looking for! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your knowledge!
Hello! A very good and informative tutorial and I must also say that your voice is perfect for this kind of thing. Clear and very pleasant to listen to. I've watched tutorials where I'd struggle to understand what the speaker was saying. Thank you!
Very simply explained Lori
Excellent ! Thanks a lot, as I didn't know a thing about the mixer brush!
What a wonderful explanation. Thanks
So helpful and so well explained. Much appreciate this tutorial! :)
That is about the most clear & concise explanation on the mixer brush that I have found... Thanks, Lor iJill. Ed
Thank you very much, very good explanation.
Thank you for your great explenation of mixer brush. I have listened and watched lots od tutorials including very professional ones and NOBODY explained so thoroughly and so clearly what is mixer brush and how it works, what can I get from using this or that control option. Firts of all I needed to know how can I just use the picture colors and move pixels lightly as if caressing the paint underneath and you helped me to find out how so I owe you big! By the way I am photoshop practitionner since 1997 and I have been learning constantly as well. So good job!
Thank you! Finally i will use mixbrush correctly, cause you show me how use it!
+a_you_there You are welcome!

Thank you so much! this was exactly what I was looking for. Great Tutorial
Very instructive...thanks.
Well, wow, wow, wow! LOL I have seen several tutorials on the mixer brush and they were no where near as understandable as this one! Yay for you!
While I am in no way near as profuse in PS as you, I have been at it a while, myself. After gleaning the usual info from around the PS sites, I, too, went in search of learning more about the different tools, panels, etc., that PS has built into it. I also sought out new techniques. Since I have a working knowledge of PS, I wanted to hone it. I want to learn it all! LOL There really aren't many detailed, advanced tutorials out there! (Finding this one was a stroke of luck! It was in the side panel of a video on how to use a certain designer's special brush.)
What you said about learning all you could about painting from every source imaginable is a great idea! I, too, made color theory, photography and several other design-related topics, objects of my research. You almost have to find one aspect of PS at a time and learn the daylights out of it. Otherwise, it all becomes mush. Well, for me it does. LOL Just what you said at the beginning really gave me an insight into this process - take one thing and learn it well. Then, if I want and have time, move on to another aspect.
I want to thank you for this tutorial and for teaching this old 'dog' new tricks. And, speaking of dogs, your model was very good, and patient. He/she didn't even blink once! LOL
Thank you, ma'm!

Very clear and informative.
Hey, Lori! Thanks for this tutorial! You did a great job explaining the mixer brush! This tutorial deserves more views, I'll share it for sure!
PS: I really thought that flow didn't work for nothing, even though I've been working with photoshop for many years now, haha! Thanks for showing me how to use it!
+Leonardo Amaral Thanks for the review. I thought for a long time that most settings did not effect the mixer brush, and actually with many of the brushes, you won't see much difference with the other settings - only the wetness. However, as you have probably now discovered also, all the top option bar settings do effect the mixer brushes in various ways.
Great explanation thank you!
Thankyou this was very helpful! :)

thank you sooo much lori
You're welcome
So great...Thank you!
Thank you! :D
Lori, this is certainly a great tutorial and advises to a greater understanding of brushes. But what I am looking for as a wildlife artist and photographer is a way of devising a brush or brushes that realisticlly portrays a clone that can accomplish real animal hair. And obviously working with a variety of animals there are a variety of hair features course verses fine. Here in your fine tutorial on understanding the use of a brush you have to admit there is some blurring evident.Where in say a picture with some real animal I am not looking at having a blur but to either repair damage or manufacture a realistic look of hair of an animal. Can you or any of your subscribers point me in the right direction to accomplish this?
Thanks for the review and comment Bob. Try checking out creatureartteacher.com/ for help with animal and fur brushes
Great video. My first thought upon hearing your voice was...Ellen Degeneres teaches Photoshop?

Hi Lori,

+Angie Castillo Yes, I use a tablet and pen for painting.
Ellen Degeneres does tutorials now?! just keep painting just keep painting in my dory voice lol
wonderful/i don't speek english,but i andersten you/ tahank you/ reuven
thx (Y)
nah mixer brush has very little to do with painting...i mean it is ok if that is what you are going for but its more of a pushing pixels than painting, that can be limiting. I never found use for that personally. But instructions are very clear very easy to understand well done on that part.
