Glad you got to show it. I haven't watched it all yet but I can see you are enjoying it already. When it first came out, it was a new type of comedy that I had never seen. There might have been paroday's done of different movies before but never anything in this hilarious style. Bits were taken from Airplane 1975 and a 1950s movie. I think the name was something like Zero Hour.
This is a comedy classic and is jam packed with jokes and funny references, some verbal and some visual. Even watching it with full concentration everyone misses a few jokes and need to watch it again but talking constantly through it and over analysing every scene you will miss so much.
The old man that was quitting everything in the tower is Lloyd Bridges who I 1st watched in 58 TV series Sea Hunt. He also had 2 acting sons in Jeff & Beau Bridges.
The humor is pretty universal but there are some parts of it that you would never understand unless you were familiar with the context Same with Other parody movies like scary movie.. There's a lot of things in that I don't get but I still find it funny
Especially with Barbara Billingsley. To them she just an old lady but to us she's June Cleaver which made it hilarious. When I saw it when it came out that scene got the biggest laugh of the whole movie. The audience went nuts. I watch a reaction to this movie a while back by a young couple and they found some of the joke's offensive.
"Why would he jump on the hood?" Ahhh, this is your youth speaking. When filling-stations had attendants who'd pump the gas, lift the hood to check the oil and close it again. This film's vast cast is already beyond your age's familiarity. That's natural but also a lot of lost jokes because of lack of face recognition. And no, you didn't recognize Kareem Abdul Jabar. sigh... there was zero chance you'd recognize Ethel Merman, the singing patient rising from the hospital bed...
He said he wanted one ticket to Chicago. The lady asked if he wanted smoking or non smoking. He said smoking. So she literally gave him a flight ticket that was smoking. Haha
He asked for a smoking seat and she handed him a smoking ticket. The guy who fell off the front of the plane was acting like he was checking the oil on a car, planes don’t have engine parts in the nose. This is a spoof of a couple of airplane disaster movies that were made in the 70’s, one was called airport 77 and the other was airport 79 the Concorde. No this move came out in 1980, I saw it in the theatre when I was 9.
Some things you might have missed: 1. Ted said he was in the Air Force but he was wearing a Navy uniform at the nightclub where he met Elaine. The fish washing up on the beach when they're fooling around by the ocean is a fresh water catfish. The airplane is a jet but we hear a prop engine. The jive lady is Beaver's mom from Leave it to Beaver. A couple of Hari Krishnas actually fly somewhere. The hubcap that spins out of control at the end is from the ambulance taking Lisa the heart patient to the hospital 2. Elain has my permission to sit on my face.😍🥰 3. Yes we used to be able to smoke in the back half of the aircraft. 4. OTTO has his own IMDB webpage. 5. Two more funny movies to watch are: "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles" both are Mel Brookes movies with Gene Wilder. 6. Airplane II is good too.🤣 Destination moon.
This was hard to watch his blank face as something hilarious happened. 😂 The jokes just flew right over his head lol how did he not get the smoking or non smoking ticket joke? Lol
@@charliemac64 Yeah, I think once he heard smoking vs non smoking, he was already confused. He had to remember that it used to be a thing until when, the 90s, I guess?

Jay the thing about this comedy is that many parts spoofed famous scenes from other movies such as “Jaws”, “Airport” and “The Poseidon Adventure”. The 70s had an era of disaster movies like this and including others such as “The Towering Inferno”. Many goofy scenes here, what we call stupid funny lol. This movie was a big hit.
This movie holds up today because it manages to make fun of everybody equally. We can all laugh at each other AND ourselves because of how tastefully it's done
Long time family favorite. To this day my dad and I love to quote the Roger Roger Victor Vector and have a laugh😂. Literal humor is a staple in our family.
This was a series of movies, doing parody of classic movies or genres. This is quoting Desaster movies that were popular at the time. As "Airport", "Concorde" and so on. They always gad famous old Hollywoodstars, here the captain (main character in the series "mission impossible"), Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack, and a very eclecticix mix of passengers. Always an old lady, a sick kid and a Nun. Always.
