@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures may consider that carb swap. Seeing new crf450 carbs go for under 180 bucks. Seems like it just bolted on and ran fine, besides cutting the top a bit that looked like a pain

My xr400 blowing heaps of smoke thought is was valve stem seals which it was also wiesco piston damage went 440 and got head done much better no smoke 💰💰💰

I have a 2001, my husband and I have been debating, the guy I bought mine from said it has the big bore kit, but my husband isn't convinced it does lol or he just doesn't want to admit mine is 'more powerful' then his 2000 🤣 but this video helped a lot with that
What jetting did you use? i have a 2004 honda 400ex with a 440 kit, slip on exhaust, kibblewhite valves, and intake but im having trouble with the jetting
The fcr has a number of different jets, what are all the specs with the jetting you did for this? Long shot if you will respond but it would be super helpful as I am gonna be putting a trx fcr on my built 400ex here soon, thanks Sam

Im asking you because my bike NX400 is having exactly the same engine, the decompression part is doing some thiking, i think that the spring si no more doing the job im thinking to remove the decompression system but dont know what can occure as result

Thank you! It all depends on the job, sometimes I have them provided to me by whoever owns the vehicle. Sometimes I have luck finding them on internet forums, and other times I purchase them.

Is the fcr worth the hassle? I was thinking about going 450r carb for smoother powerband. I had a modified fcr on my 400ex and it would struggle alot in the lower rpms
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures just in case anyone else asks, the trx cable does not work with the FCR carburetor. I tried it and the TRX cable is a little thinner on the thread
The 40mm Mikuni pumper carb fits under the gas tank a little better than the FCR carb does and the FCR doesn’t have the adjustability that the Mikuni has and your factory throttle cable will work with the Mikuni also. I have a 400ex with the 416 JE kit , hot cam and Mikuni and a FMF power core4 exhaust system. It’s like getting on a different bike and the torque difference was the biggest noticeable gain

Not a stupid question....don’t need to drain oil. I usually don’t, so I can do a change after a short break in run. But it’s probably best to have fresh oil to begin with. You considering doing a top end rebuild?

All I could say is, if you add performance you usually remove reliability. There’s a fine line there, sometimes engines are so well built that you can add a bit of performance without adversely effecting reliability.

@@davidblum_ it’s likely going to be some carb adjustment needed. Maybe main jet, needle adjustment, etc. You need to get a filter on it to be sure, then it’s trial and error depending on your riding altitude.
And you didn’t even have to go on a boat! Yes, I use the tripod or stand when I can but it’s not ideal for getting in for closer shots. Take a Dramamine and you’ll be fine! 😂😂

@@theyzoomers I don’t know how the Niche cylinders are for the Honda, but the Yamaha Rhino ones are not good. I would research it before you waste money…but maybe they have a better record for the 400EX.

That quad is good for one thing: ripping out the engine, pulling out the lower end, and installing on a XR400R. 🔧

I really don’t remember. I didn’t mess with the jetting, this carb came off a TRX450R so whatever was in it has been working well.

Honestly, it was an eBay purchase as a takeoff from a stock Honda 450 quad. Didn’t touch it, stock jetting.

Yes, it works fine without it. The only time it could be a problem is if the battery is weak.

@@youssefallali716 Hot Cam is the aftermarket brand name. It probably has a different grind, duration, lift, etc.

Hey what are the value adjusted to gap clearance
The exhaust valves should have . 005 inches of clearance, and the intake valves should have . 004 inches of clearance.

The guy who I did this for said that he loves it. I suppose it all depends on how you have it set up.
Just taper bore the stock carb or run the FCR from the yamaha. But like I said modifying the oem carb is much better and just as effective
I suppose there’s half a dozen ways it can be done. As long as you’re riding, it’s all good!
How long did you heat up the manifold I’ve tried with a blow dryer but it’s not working lol might need to buy a heat gun
It takes a while, kind of got to be careful with the heat gun or it will melt! Good luck, I guess the quad is working well for the guy.

It’s an FCR-39 carburetor. Lots of motorcycles and quads use this carb, pretty sure this one was from a Honda TRX450?

I’m trying to figure out if I should buy one in these and put it on because my quad is burning oil cause the piston is wobbly.
Well the big bore is about the same price, not sure how much it really helps power wise. I think you can go up to a 440 or so without doing case work.

Looks like you forgot the o-ring that goes around the base of the cylinder.

The TPS wires aren’t required. Hot start can stay. Double check everything.
Ok my tank was low on gas I think that might be the problem so if I leave the tps it shouldn’t affect anything right?

I honestly can’t remember, it was a mid sized one....not the 440.
No problems with my 440 upgrade, new performance cam,valves and exhaust ,in the process of tuning the jetted carb . She goes like a scared cat!

The stock carburetor can be jetted for that, probably just do a bit of research and you can find a good baseline setup for it.

What cam was that and what did you set the valves to?
I didn’t buy the cam, not sure but I think he said it was a XR400R cam of some sort. Valves were set to factory specifications.
What is the jetting you ended up with the fcr on the 400 ?
I would have to watch the video again to see if I mentioned what I installed, the owner said he hasn’t changed it and it has been working well.
