- What a week! We move into our empty new home. Begin to furnish it, get interrupted by the joy of holi! On being invited to a local gathering, we get to experience something very magical and open hearted in the company of strangers who quickly become friends. Along the way learn so much more of why Holi is truly a celebration the whole world needs.

Jono, if I may ask, why did you not move into an apartment in the same building where you went to celebrate Holi? By the way, you guys are amazing! The aura of positivity that you carry is palpable through a computer screen. I'm so happy for you.
We've wondered that too, as it's such a lovely community, but we needed a slightly bigger place, for work and guests. And have a small garden and cool neighbour's.

Basically Holi festival comes in the starting of spring season..Holi's actually of two days.. first day when they burn "holika"(bornfire) and the second day is "dhulandi" where you have played holo with colors and water(it's optional though but kids are the one who mostly use water and water guns and ballons)..basically it's about coloring others and wishing them and eating food and sweets.
Now let's talk about the hindu origin of holi.
This ritual is derived from the story of Holika,
The cuel arrogant evil king "Hiranyakashipu", he was so proud of himself that he consider himself as God.
but his son Prahlad was a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu.
But the evil king Hiranyakashipu hated Lord Vishnu.
And didn't wanted his son to pray to him instead pray to his dad Hiranyakashipu..who considered himself god out of his arrogancy.
But his son didn't let his father stop him in being a big devotee of lord Vishnu.
So his father decided to kill his son..but every attempt failed as everyime lord Vishnu saved him(prahalad).
In end he tried to kill him through the flames of a bonfire. Although Holika(his sister) was endowed with a boon to remain immune to fire(she tried taking prahlad with himself and sat in a live big burning bonfire), she was burned to ashes, while Prahlada remained unharmed.. because the son prahlada was a bit devote of lord vishnu..it was all due to lord vishnu..("Holi" festival name derived from the evil sister of Hiranyakashipu.."Holika".. that's why before "dhulandi" day..we burn a bornfire as "Holika"..as a symbol of win of good over bad/evil.)
Afterwards Lord Vishnu took avatar of Narasimha, being half-man and half-lion, was neither human nor animal and had the power to kill Hiranyakashipu, who had neither boon for death by any living being nor an animal. Narasimha killed Hiranyakashipu, thus saving Prahlad and restoring the balance of good over evil.

India is everything, so many rich layers and colours. People in all cultures like to focus on what makes them think they are better. But we are all so much more a like then we sometimes want to admit.

In my village ,some kids mix some kind of strong color with kerosene 🗿..so it won't fade away soon..and then they make ballon out of it.

If you are living in India, One thing i would suggest is to keep an eye on the road while driving, Never let your guard down. Traffic is the greatest concern. India is infamous for Traffic accidents and mishaps, So travel safe. Those Truck Drivers and Bus Drivers drive crazy !
