I asked my family to have this played when they carry my body out of the church following my funeral. I want people to feel joy when I have entered the Kingdom of God!
¡Muy buena elección! Dejarás tu cuerpo, e ingresarás al reino de los cielos entre esta hermosa melodía. ¡Felicitaciones! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
today is Jan 5, 2024. I am listening now to your performance. My deepest gratitude.
This is probably the first *serious* performance of this work that I've seen on RUclips. Every high school "top choir" and collegiate chorial union performs this, so I was expecting some "ok" background music while I work. But before I went to a different window, I saw some period instruments. Then I heard musical (not just technical) and *meaningful* use of dynamics. And I heard an engaged chorus in which each part was well-represented, functioned independently, and worked seamlessly. And the soloists held their own. I'm thoroughly impressed! Well done to all musicians and sound/video technicians involved in this production.
Tx for your insights. I agree. Often disappointing performances but this one is very committed to the spirit of this great opus by the legendary Vivaldi; always complex, always astonishing these centuries later, & forever, I guess. That’s true immortality isn’t it? Look! You can see Vivaldi manifest in the performers as they play & sing. How extraordinary! I tried 4 before landing on this one. I suppose I’m a bit Eurocentric so tend to listen to the Germans, Italians, Dutch, Czech and so forth. But this one gets downloaded. ❤
Beautifully said as well as perfectly orchestrated!
It’s good to see college “kids?” doing something this diificult with their time and talent. The practice time that each of these students must commit to is an exceptional discipline.
They are both inspired and inspiring.
I currently attend UNT as a music major. There are whole degree paths for music of this time period. Literally a classroom which says "Early Music" and across the hallway, a recital space with a full size organ. Next door is the harpsichord room (I think one of the only schools in the USA that features harpsichord as a main concentration). This concert hall seen in the video also has a full pipe organ built into the walls. The students here are the real deal, there are some serious talents.
Thank you UNT and RUclips for presenting superb musical interludes that I as an impoverished pensioner, would never otherwise afford to hear. It lifts my spirits.
Happy that we could do that!
We are glad to be in a position to share the music created by our students to a global audience at not cost to the viewer/listener.
The memories this brings back to me, now in my older years. We sang this my freshman year in college. A few years later, i was a grad student where you are now, then called North Texas State University. Oh, to dial back the clock about 50 years.
If you ever doubt the existence of heaven then listen to music like this and you have to realize that there is a place higher and loftier than here to be worthy of it.
There is more English people now living in USA than UK if you take 3rd 4th generation English to account. Not Irish or Scotish british English. So never be suprised what comes out of that great country that the anglosaxon built with a little help with their friends.. lol
Max C amen!!
I can't doubt heaven's existence because I was allowed to visit. It's unforgettable.
@@PETERJOHN101 I'd love to hear it.
Emotional response’s are proof of the supernatural? Hilarious.
An addendum to my first comment: this proves, beyond any doubt, that music is the universal language. No one could, in my opinion, sing a work like this and stay enemies with other singers. It recalls the words of that commercial so popular in the late
'60's, "I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony....it's the real thing. "
Vivaldi outdid himself in this piece. And this performance is spectacular and brilliant. The soloists sang so beautifully I could hardly stand it. Definitely the best performance of this marvellous piece I've ever heard. Bravo!
Listen to Juditha Triumphants , Vivaldi had so much to offer , sadly not all his compositions are found yet
Ascoltare Vivaldi, magistralmente eseguito da giovani Nord Americani e una grande emozione per un Italiano!!!
Anche noi in Brasile
This is the performance of the Gloria I listen to over and over on RUclips.
Whenever I see Vivaldi, I want to click on it. Fine performance, and as a 61 yr old man in this day in age, it's very refreshing to see a group of fine looking youth.
I sang this back in 1985, or 1986, my Junior year of High School!
Now, I am 51, and I still remember how to sing it!
Amen!
I watched my 24 year old perform it as a senior in High school 7 years ago (violin), and my youngest perform it last night (soprano)....Brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to this. What a maestro Vivaldi was.
I performed it as a Junior in High School , don't know, seems like we took it a little slower, but that was a long time ago.
Brilliant !!! Thank you !!!
Congratulations to your family of musicians! Do you sing?

UPDATE: This video has reached THREE MILLION views! Congratulations UNT!
This video. Is currently at 2.9 MILLION views and will soon reach THREE MILLION.
Bravo not only to the conductor and musicians, but to the audio/video team as well. They did an excellent job and truly have allowed the music to shine through, with nice balance and tone. Great performance with great recording skills.
You put into words exactly what I was thinking. Many sound engineers are clueless as to how to record a well-blended choir such as this one. But this team truly got is right.
Absolutely
My Son is a very experienced sound recording engineer/producer,and has recorded many projects such as this,it takes a lot of skill to capture a balance of various sounds and timbres in a cathedral setting, taking natural accoustics into account, and I am pleased that the engineering team have been given credit here, by Brad Zabelski, most often the audio is criticised by unqualified know-alls!
This performance is worthy of the skills of all concerned in the making of the project!
Cheers Brad, and those who have replied in a very sensible and positive manner!

4 year old conductor
Vagner Morais gloria van vivaldi
While I agree the conductor is pretty mundane, a lot of times in "early" music you see the conductor not doing much because historically the harpsichordist would have been the one conducting. Intact, this tradition was still in effect during the performances of Haydn's piano concertos. Today, we want conductors, so to split the difference between modern and historic performance practice, the conductor will opt to show few romantic gestures and instead let the "baroque" musicians interpret the music themselves.
But oh gosh yeah, it's bad :)

When I hear that song I feel that I'm in heaven listening to the angels sing. Just love it
Glorious music, thank you, Vivaldi.
Thank you to the School of Music at North Texas State, Denton who still inculcates such beauty in the souls of young people. Bravo!
What a WONDERFUL performance! I've only listened to the first 2 movements so far, but the choir can be heard clearly above the orchestra. Everyone knows their music and is together, including orchestra and choir, and you can hear the passion as expressed by changes in dynamics by the choral singers. I sing with a choir, and I can imagine the tremendous amount of preparation which went into this great performance.
Not very much, because its a simple piece of music and quiet easy to sing for such a choir...
@AdonisFridplin: "Simple piece of music" you say. And how many times professional orchestras butcher a "simple piece of music", rendering it blah and without dynamic variations. Give credit to the conductor. And the female soloist is excellent, as are her smooth trills--I've heard so-called professionals deliver ghastly trills. The choir is great, too--none ofcthe voice parts overpower each other nor does any individual voice stick out. The orchestra is excellent, too.
Everybody is just a kid yet they all outshine many so-called "pros". I wish them all great, longlasting careers in music should they wish to make music their lives.
At the very least I hope none of them ever stop playing for their enjoyment and continue to jam with other musicians and maybe participate in a concert from time to time.
Vivaldi siempre maravilloso, vibrante, tenue, melancólico, diferente, pero siempre cercano al corazón con su inigualable música.
The ending of Et in Terra pax is some of the most beautiful harmonies I've ever heard.
Agreed. I first loved the opening, but Et in Terra Pax is much more complex, subtle and beautiful.
We attempted this in High school, it still brings tears to my eyes.

One of the best Glorias I've heard. Richard is a fabulous conductor.
With young singers and musicians like these there is a fine future ahead. A very beautiful rendition of a Vivaldi that is not that easy to perform: mes compliments !
Many of these singers are now directors of choral activities at universities in every corner of the nation. :)

Perfect pace.not too fast nor too slow.having the perfect pace brings out the dramatic mood vivaldi is trying to capture and the imense outerwordly beauty of this piece by vivaldi.exceptionally beautiful.
I don't know why other renditions are done so fast. I know it's marked allegro, but it sounds so much better at around 120-125 bpm.
Who would have thought that out of the windswept hills and plains of North Texas such a magnificent whirlwind of music would take flight. Congratulations to Richard Sparks and all of you: countless thousands of us will be enjoying this for a long time to come. I think the red priest would approve.

Thank you, sir. This music touches my soul and I than my dear, sensitive Christian for naming me Gloria Esther.

Love that mezzo soloist! What a rich, warm, yet clear voice!
My comments are posted long after this video was released. First, thank you for creating such a beautiful performance. I have come to appreciate the Baroque practice for string playing string music with less vibrato. When I hear Baroque performances with extreme vibrato, it makes me ill to have the beautiful melodies distorted so much. I also appreciate that in the training of singers.
This is a beautifully expressive performance. Bravo to the conductor and the talented students of North Texas!
