Thank you UNT and RUclips for presenting superb musical interludes that I as an impoverished pensioner, would never otherwise afford to hear. It lifts my spirits.
The memories this brings back to me, now in my older years. We sang this my freshman year in college. A few years later, i was a grad student where you are now, then called North Texas State University. Oh, to dial back the clock about 50 years.
This is probably the first *serious* performance of this work that I've seen on RUclips. Every high school "top choir" and collegiate chorial union performs this, so I was expecting some "ok" background music while I work. But before I went to a different window, I saw some period instruments. Then I heard musical (not just technical) and *meaningful* use of dynamics. And I heard an engaged chorus in which each part was well-represented, functioned independently, and worked seamlessly. And the soloists held their own. I'm thoroughly impressed! Well done to all musicians and sound/video technicians involved in this production.
Tx for your insights. I agree. Often disappointing performances but this one is very committed to the spirit of this great opus by the legendary Vivaldi; always complex, always astonishing these centuries later, & forever, I guess. That’s true immortality isn’t it? Look! You can see Vivaldi manifest in the performers as they play & sing. How extraordinary! I tried 4 before landing on this one. I suppose I’m a bit Eurocentric so tend to listen to the Germans, Italians, Dutch, Czech and so forth. But this one gets downloaded. ❤
It’s good to see college “kids?” doing something this diificult with their time and talent. The practice time that each of these students must commit to is an exceptional discipline. They are both inspired and inspiring.
I currently attend UNT as a music major. There are whole degree paths for music of this time period. Literally a classroom which says "Early Music" and across the hallway, a recital space with a full size organ. Next door is the harpsichord room (I think one of the only schools in the USA that features harpsichord as a main concentration). This concert hall seen in the video also has a full pipe organ built into the walls. The students here are the real deal, there are some serious talents.
Whenever I see Vivaldi, I want to click on it. Fine performance, and as a 61 yr old man in this day in age, it's very refreshing to see a group of fine looking youth.
An addendum to my first comment: this proves, beyond any doubt, that music is the universal language. No one could, in my opinion, sing a work like this and stay enemies with other singers. It recalls the words of that commercial so popular in the late '60's, "I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony....it's the real thing. "
I watched my 24 year old perform it as a senior in High school 7 years ago (violin), and my youngest perform it last night (soprano)....Brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to this. What a maestro Vivaldi was.
So beautiful! Thank you so much Lord today again specially! All the grace and the glory to our God Almighty the Father Jesus Christ our Lord again! Thank you so much for sharing today again! God bless all! God bless AMERICA!
Vivaldi outdid himself in this piece. And this performance is spectacular and brilliant. The soloists sang so beautifully I could hardly stand it. Definitely the best performance of this marvellous piece I've ever heard. Bravo!
Bravo not only to the conductor and musicians, but to the audio/video team as well. They did an excellent job and truly have allowed the music to shine through, with nice balance and tone. Great performance with great recording skills.
You put into words exactly what I was thinking. Many sound engineers are clueless as to how to record a well-blended choir such as this one. But this team truly got is right.
My Son is a very experienced sound recording engineer/producer,and has recorded many projects such as this,it takes a lot of skill to capture a balance of various sounds and timbres in a cathedral setting, taking natural accoustics into account, and I am pleased that the engineering team have been given credit here, by Brad Zabelski, most often the audio is criticised by unqualified know-alls! This performance is worthy of the skills of all concerned in the making of the project! Cheers Brad, and those who have replied in a very sensible and positive manner!

Glorious music, thank you, Vivaldi. Thank you to the School of Music at North Texas State, Denton who still inculcates such beauty in the souls of young people. Bravo!
What a WONDERFUL performance! I've only listened to the first 2 movements so far, but the choir can be heard clearly above the orchestra. Everyone knows their music and is together, including orchestra and choir, and you can hear the passion as expressed by changes in dynamics by the choral singers. I sing with a choir, and I can imagine the tremendous amount of preparation which went into this great performance.
@AdonisFridplin: "Simple piece of music" you say. And how many times professional orchestras butcher a "simple piece of music", rendering it blah and without dynamic variations. Give credit to the conductor. And the female soloist is excellent, as are her smooth trills--I've heard so-called professionals deliver ghastly trills. The choir is great, too--none ofcthe voice parts overpower each other nor does any individual voice stick out. The orchestra is excellent, too. Everybody is just a kid yet they all outshine many so-called "pros". I wish them all great, longlasting careers in music should they wish to make music their lives. At the very least I hope none of them ever stop playing for their enjoyment and continue to jam with other musicians and maybe participate in a concert from time to time.

You can sing in a choir essentially until you die. One of our Tenors finally quit at age 90! And there are many choirs of every level, for every age group (or all ages in one choir) and for every music style (from Baroque to Rock, literally!) you can choose from, depending where you live. So, if you wish to sing, join a choir today! If you believe your voice has gotten "rusty": If you've got some experience you'll be fine after a few weeks of singing regularly.
Majestic music, absolutely spotless rendition and presentation. BRAVO to absolutely every musician and everyone who participated, including the producer, camera operators, sound engineer, and of course, the University Department that sponsored the performance.
An absolute delightful performance - well in the class with the best ones over here in Europe. Soloists, choir, orchestra and conductor all give the impression of a real "Vivaldi feeling".

I listen to this recording every day. It is so uplifting and beautifully performed. My choir is singing this at Christmas.
The best work of the best composer of all time.
The Red Priest's Gloria presented by the Big Green's ensemble -
Absolutely Glorious!!!
I thought only "cowboys" live in Texas, but that they can also play such beautiful music, Vivadi my great respect, Bravo!, I am a friend of the USA. Greetings from old Germany.
Never forget that VAN CLEBURNE came from Kilgore, Texas
UNT has one of the best, if not the best, music programs of any university in the US.
@@francoaragosta4285 ... Actually Van Cliburn was born in Shreveport Louisiana.
After he won theTchaikovsky piano competition he lived the remainder of his life in Fort Worth Texas... when he wasn't touring and performing.
@@mikeprevost8650 ... Yes they do.
You are exactly right.

Best version..... normally it's over orchestrated but this is spot on!
Having viewed and listened to all the presentation of Vivaldi's Gloria that I have been able to find, I must say that this, in my humble opinion, is by far the best performance. I love it, and thank the performers profusely.
Great to hear a young choir doing a magnificent presentation of such a wonderful piece of music!
E' SEMPRE UN INCANTO.... REALMENTE VOLI IN CIELO!

Beautiful...makes me wish for the days I was singing in a choir. Timeless music and a wonderful performance.
Велик Господь,велик Вивальди,который создал эту Музыку.Исполнение просто Гениально, хор,солисты,оркестр ,дирижер-единое целое
Спасибо всем за прекрасную Музыку!!!
Dio benedica il Prete Rosso, nunc et semper! Rappresentante dello spirito colto, fine e armonico del mio antichissimo e immortale Paese.
I'm performing this song on December 6th, and, I've been listening to a lot of recordings while doing my homework, and, I'd have to say, this is the best I've found so far. It's fantastic!
Kafele Keller How was it? I have to perform it as a violinist December ninth.
Our community choir performed this a long time ago at Christmas time. Haven't heard it in AGES. It's cool to hear it again.
Thank you so much Jesus Christ today again specially!
