A fantastic little battery charger with a lot of technology packed into a small package. There are numerous versions of this charger available on Amazon and E-bay with slight display variations, but they seem to all do the same thing, be the same quality and I suspect they are all coming out of the same factory in China. I recently equipped my main vehicle with a new AGM chemistry battery and since my old 40 year old charger would not charge AGMs, I purchased one of these smart chargers for less than $40 (CDN), which does AGM batteries and various others. I either charged, or ran the special "repair mode" on 6 batteries, that my son and I had, and 5 seem to have been fully restored and indicate fully charged and good health. An additional small battery is installed on a piece of lawn equipment, that is not used during the winter months, and the charger is being used to trickle charge and maintain the battery's health.
I just bought one of these, came out of the box with one of the clamps off the cable so I had to solder it and resolder the other clamp. Neither clamp was crimped to the cable so I did that too. So far it has been working.
I use this charger every day for my trailer battery. The solar panel and truck do some charging during the day, but the bulk of the charging happens overnight. I have used this 6 nights a week, 9-12hours per night for the last 2 1/2 years. It has yet to have a problem. Recently used the repair feature on a friend's battery. Her car had sat so long that the battery would not even complete a circuit to keep the car running. The battery was almost new when the car was parked. Overnight with the pulse repair mode and then I took her battery to the auto parts store for testing. Their machine said that the battery was "good" and did not recommend replacing it. Put it back in her car and the battery is performing like new.
Great comment..just what i was wondering wanted to use this on my rv as a maintaining unit and need it to run almost 24hrs a day so knowing you uesd this 9 to 12 for over 2 years has gave me hope..i just got my unit yesterday so we will see how it goes
Hi can you please let me know if i have to disconnect the battery from the car first to hook it up with the charger or just simply hook up the charger while the battery is connect to the car
I'm using this charger on 2x 12V 65A Lead Acid batteries (connected in parallel) as a backup power to the solar panels which get a lot of shade due to clouds. This 12V in turn go via a step up 12v to 24v booster to my emg. power gen. with 24v LiP04 batteries and keep that topped up. Works so far!
i got one and put it on and all it does it has a constant beep and the display shows e 0 the middle one looks like a t with the left part of the t missing? battery is completely dead?
How do you know when it fully charge right now mine is saying I’m not sure. Help me out my battery. I mean I got jumped it with a regular car yesterday. It was working fine and when I woke up this morning it’s dead
Hello. Thanks for the video. Does the battery need to be removed from the car to charge it? My RV battery is very weak. It won't recharge when the RV is plugged in although the auxiliary battery will. Thanks for the help.
Hello, I won't be using my car for a long time. My car battery is a year old and is fine. Which mode do I have to choose for trickle charging: Car mode or repair mode? Does car mode automatically switch to trickle charging? Thank you in advance for your feedback!
It worked real good got it about half a year ago it charged my battery when I bought it …used it a week ago it also charged with flying colors .., BUT now cannot get into Mode3 no more the mode change switch doesn’t do anything.,, is there a fix ir it just died?
@@RickBolt May be a good idea to keep that old charger for some of the parts. Like the battery cables and power cable, since the new one has low quality cables and a short power cable.
There seems to be little or no issue charging the battery while it is connect in the vehicle, but some recommend disconnecting it from new vehicles that are heavily laden with computer systems. You can remove the battery from the vehicle, or leave the battery in the vehicle, but disconnect the vehicle's positive and negative terminals from the battery before charging.
Do you charge up battery charger itself, then connect it to your car battery or do you have plug the charger into a wall socket while charging car battery?
No. It will charge AGM batteries, but it will not perform the "repair mode" on an AGM battery. It self-detects that it is connected to an AGM battery and defaults back to the only mode available for AGM, which is charging. Unless your AGM is beyond repair, it should fully charge your AGM battery in "charge mode". Did it charge O.K.?
@@chrisgraham2904 It charged on the AGM mode, from 20-60 took 6 hours but then from 60-100 only took half an hour and then it auto stopped, so thinking maybe the battery was damaged I put it on repair mode and it actually started running on repair mode, but I didn't leave it to stop on it's own because I needed to use the car. The voltage read 12.6 which is usuall for a 90% fully charged battery, but I am thinking next time I charge I will do the same procedure but allow the repair mode to auto stop. The batter is two years old so mid life I would say. Hopefully be repairing it I can prolong its lifespan.
have got one of these and tried out the "repair" function on an old battery that was working but was weak, holding about 12 volts. left it on overnight for about 20 hours and now is only 8 volts and overheats badly when I tried to recharge it...so the "repair" function killed it. weak before, now dead. so be real careful with this, I would only try it on something that is completely and totally stuffed and I would bet then it won't work. normal charging function seems to work ok
A weak battery is a damaged battery. If trying to repair it made it unrepairable I'd bet it was real close to being unusable already. Battery chargers aren't some miracle device that fixes ruined batteries.
It's a charger, not a battery "booster pack". You plug the charger into an electrical outlet, select the charging mode and connect it to the battery to charge the battery. The charge process will take up to 16 hours to fully charge the battery. After the battery is fully charged, then you can start your vehicle with that battery.
does it work on lawnmower batteries. Amazon claims it does work for lawnmower batteries. I need a trickle battery charger for keeping it charged up during the winter, which is about to end. How cold can the temperature be around it and not damage the charger ?
@@RickBolt I used it last night on my pickup truck and after 8 hours, it showed full on my battery. I didn't do a repair so I guess that means the battery isn't sulfated after all the cold weather. Hoping it will get me to work and home.
If your trickle charging the battery for lawn equipment that is stored over the winter, you need to trickle charge at no more than 1.5 Amps. There are even cheaper charger options for that purpose. If your storing equipment in a shed or garage, a solar trickle charger mounted outside on the shed wall or roof works very well.
just bought one but when i hook it up it makes a constant beep and i get this on the display E 0 the middle number looks like a t with the left part of the t missing any help? battery is completely dead
Could I use a battery charger like this (I have one almost identical) if the battery is still in the car? Or do I have to remove the battery to use is? Thank you for the video!
I feel like having to plug it in kills the "portable" part. It looks like it's great, but its useless if you need to take it ouside to your vehicle (especially if you live in an apartment).
It's a battery charger, not a battery booster. If you have a dead battery in your vehicle and you live in an apartment....you remove the battery from your vehicle and take it to your apartment and charge it for up to 16 hours. When fully charged, install the battery back in your vehicle and start your vehicle. If you just want to "jump start" your vehicle in the parking lot, you will need a boost from another vehicle or a "booster pack".
This "charger" will recharge the battery, but could take up to 16 hours before the battery is fully charged. After the battery is charged, disconnect the charger from the battery and then start the vehicle with the healthy battery. To "jump start" a vehicle, you will need another vehicle and booster cable or a "booster pack".
I noticed that this can let you know what the battery internal temperature is. How does it measure the internal battery temperature? Does it come with a temperature probe?
The temperature feature indicates the outside temperature of the environment your charging in. It automatically switches between winter and summer modes to deliver the optimum amperage to charge your battery. For example: If your attempting to charge a battery in sub-zero temperatures, the charger will automatically run a "warming mode" in the battery for a period of time, before it begins the actual charging process. A valuable feature to protect the battery from damage.
Yeah it does come with a temperature probe you just have to get a 1/4 inch drill bit and drill a hole into the battery and then insert the probe. Works perfect 👍🏻
I bought this and hooked it up to the battery. Immediately it said the battery was full and showed "OFF". I tried starting the car and it was like there was no charge in the battery at all. I got a jump start from a friend and it jumped fine. Before I got the jump I tried to trouble shoot another 3 times and it still didn't start even when the device said full.
I think it just shows full to everyone when you first connect it. Then, when you plug it into the wall, the battery bar will move and show how much percent you actually have left.
You likely have a dead battery that is damaged and beyond repair or charging. You can take the battery to an autoparts store, like NAPA, who provides a free battery test service. Their $700 dollar test machine will better determine that fault in the battery and whether it is repairable.
I threw out the book. What's code DF5? I found one important improvement that would be nice... force charge at 24V. Add a manual 12V/24V slide switch setting. If you have a 24V system drained to 14v it will say all is fine for your 12V system and it won't charge. That was frustrating. Sorry it's 24V Mr "smart charger!" Otherwise these are fantastic and inexpensive. I use as trickle charger over winter and have several.
