      @@Arrdeegee Yep! As @gloriouslyimperfect said, every quartet has an identity and a very unique voice. Tony especially is very versatile and it never feels like "Tony and the gang" for any of the quartets he's been a champion in. @@steveboone1498 That isn't even true... G4 was formed in 2011 with the same lineup ever since. FT was formed in 2018, with Drew, Christian, Anthony and Andrew (T L Br Bs). In late 2019, Christian left the group and the lineup was changed to Alex, Anthony, Drew and Andrew.
      SS disbanded in 2019; the three in the current Ringmasters line-up isn't actively competing anymore but Simon just competed with Primer this year. LS is very much active, but didn't participate this year because David (lead) just became a dad. I'm pretty sure LS would come back next year :)

    Not to take anything away from this great championship quartet, but barbershop is dangerously straying away from its original core values. Contemporary songs are rarely conducive to great bonafide barbershop arrangements with archetypal circle of fifths implied harmony and dominant 7th's. What is needed are song writers in the barbershop style as opposed to modern songs being "forcefully" arranged in a somewhat barbershop resemblance. I understand that the Society needs to grow and evolve with new generations, and that modern singing material might be more enticing. But the art and science should still be preserved by encouraging witty arrangements of "barbershop songs", instead of force fed arrangements of poor modern material. I expect many of you to disagree...

    • @didderjade
      @didderjade 3 месяца назад +2

      Weren't the barbershop "core values" entirely improvised by young men on street corners, scandalizing their elders?
