He reminds me a lot of an old WWII vet I once knew, who survived pearl harbor. Gave me a ton of good advice and just had a calm, friendly demeanor and he always had a wise perspective on things. In a world where there is so much less wisdom and kindness now, I think we all need a wiser, more experienced older person to turn to for advice. A rare gift these days, alas.
It's rather charming to see an old chappie enjoying quiet time in the comfort of his stuffy library, immersing himself in billowing clouds of smoke, holding his precious pipe
Me and the wife watch these videos daily now. I have checked his backlog of videos to make sure there is enough for us to live on for awhile (There is). He makes me feel like everything is going to be okay.
These videos have only confirmed to me that my goal in life is to cultivate a library space for reflection and wonder like this one. I adore Malcolm's reverence for the old words, mythologies and legends in a world which seems increasingly intent on losing touch with them. As long as this man's pipe is lit, the flame will be kept alive!
Good Morning from Las Vegas. It’s about a half past 8 in the morning and I walked out to the patio with a mug of coffee and a pipe of C&D’s The Beast to a rich opulent treat as I ponder the day. Sat here and lit my pipe and opened my iPad and found this video. What a good way to start my day off. Cheers Malcolm
The first time I stumbled upon your channel - two weeks back - I imagined and entertained the thought that you lived just down the street, and that I was always welcomed to drop by for a sip of superior whiskey and a full pint of heartfelt storytelling... well, here I am - with my own beverage in hand - and here you are welcoming me into your study to indulge my wishful whims! Wonderful, Sir... thankyou for the invite!
Im a new one on your channel. Stumbled across you about a month ago. Simply love your content. I will light my pipe with a bit of Nutty Irishman in it and listen to you. Keep up the great work sir
Eustace salvation story is one of my absolute favorites. Gives Edmund an opportunity to give his testimony and begin disciplining him as we are all also called to do…
Malcolm thank you and God bless you and Maggie. I am exactly your age, a pipe smoker of lovely old Petersons and a writer. I have written one book and am attempting to get started on my second. You inspire me with every one of your videos. I feel as if I am sitting in your library as I sit in mine, having a smoke and sometimes a glass and staring at my Parker Sonnet and I have finally thanks to you picked it up and began. Cheers my brother in Christ and thank you again.
Found this channel a couple weeks ago, it’s like visiting your magical grandfather who always has something interesting and fantastical to show you. It’s so great, keep it up and I hope your doin well!
Your channel has encouraged me to write some poetry again and also make the change over from cigars to the pipe. I wrote this poem about 15 years ago and revised it the other night. I'll share it here for anyone who'd care to read. Lomond We were but an ancient prayer, Yet our shared time's now thin as air. Our reverence, lost like whispers in the wind. Gradually, you fade, as memories rescind. Now all's encased in thought's intricate lace, Our life now splits, like strands parting space. You, now merely history, a shadow cast, The spark extinguished, in the past amassed. Those years we meshed, side by side, Against every norm, we'd proudly stride. Not a day shone brighter, under clouds and sky, My friend, 'tis time, a heartfelt goodbye. As I wander into the wild, where myths are spun, Farewell, my sweet youth, our era's done. In the heart of the isle, our tales will blend, Goodbye, till we meet, near this rainbow's end.
this is such a beautiful channel and reminds me of my grandfather who passed many moons ago, bless you and your wife, don't ever lose that youthful touch and amazing imagination of both worlds; here and the one we cannot see !
This was always my favorite passage in all of Narnia. I remember as a child desperately wanting to feel as Eustace did when Aslan tore his dragon skin away. Thanks for bringing the passage to life with your wonderful reading of it.
I found your channel because RUclips recommended your recent video “first firing of a new pipe” which I can see has gotten quite popular and I hope it translates to more success for you on RUclips and beyond! Cheers! 🍻 Looking forward to more content like this
After being a fan of LOTR for my whole life, you helped me to go out and seek the book for myself. Read the full chapter on Bilbos party today on my flight 🎉 thank you
Sitting at the foot of a tree in a park on a sunny evening, smoking an aromatic in my meerschaum while this video plays and I can’t remember the last time I felt so cozy. Cheers Malcolm, love your channel ❤
Hi Malcolm! I adore this story of Eustace. Presuming himself to be hopeless, his sorrow is suddenly turned to joy. Setting aside his fear, choosing to trust, he finds himself freed from his dragon prison. Blessings to you and yours.
Thank you, Malcolm! Last week I sat and watched the "Dawntreader" movie with some of my grandchildren. We all agreed that the description of the "undragoning" in the book is much better on several levels than in the movie!
It only occurred to me whilst you were reading this just how profound this episode in Narnia is! Dragons are the epitome of selfishness (sitting on their horde of gold without a care in the world for others), and Eustace is initially such a 'nails-on-a-blackboard' type of character due to his selfishness. It is only when he finally sees himself as a beastly dragon, for all his faults and sins of selfishness that he is able to accept Aslan. Aslan (God) sees the real Eustace underneath that scaly skin of his and is able to tear through it all and baptise him in his love. After reading Lewis's 'Mere Christianity' and 'Miracles' it is beautiful to see his ideas in their narrative form in Narnia. Thanks for sharing the reading, Malcolm!
i haven’t read this since i was a kid in elementary school but that scene with him scratching his scales off has aLways stuck with me. how lovely to hear it again
Thank you for sharing that beautiful passage. It is a magnificent depiction of the purgation every soul must go through before joining the Wedding Feast of the Lamb, either during this life or the next. May God bless you and your family during this Lenten season.
VotDT is my favorite Narnia episode, by far, and the dragoning and undragoning of Eustace Scrubb is my favorite part of the Dawn Treader. Thanks for this gem of a reminder.
This is so nice to paint my warhammer fantasy models to. I just sit back listen to you smoking and read poetry of King Arthur, Tolkien and all the rest. And I just unwind and paint. Thanks Malcolm!
I went to my local carboot / market today . A old resseller had two sealed tins of Virginia flakes...one a Solani and other charatan both 50 grams. When I asked the price he said £7 each or both for £10 I instantly paid the £10 for the 100 grams spot on I'd say 😂👍👍
Beautiful story told in a captivating manner. Thank you! "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
We love your stuff and have encouraged our followers and church to enjoy all your doing. You, Malcolm, have show us without saying it that God actually likes us, he "delights" in us. Thank you for your positive God centered responses to the beauty of the pages in these books. We would love to interview you if you'd ever be open to it.
Ahhhhh. Just in time Malcom. I was mulling over some of my older writings, lyrics and musings to see if they made sense to me as they did at the time i wrote them, and of course, they did not. I found myself bewildered and confused. So. When I discovered your new upload, I was quite pleased to direct attention elsewhere. I am burning a nice bowl of Scottish Flake and nice rocks glass of Dewars and listening to the GOAT. Thank you good sir. Be well.
I just recently found your RUclips channel and I just want to say.. thank you sir! You have brought me back to my childhood with the wonder and excitement of these amazing stories and videos. Keep up the great work, and hopefully i get to meet you in person. Blessings to you and yours 🙏😁
Oh man, I'm so jealous of all your awesome pipes! And BOOKS! I just started my pipe journey a little over a year ago, and I did so purely based on my discovery of the youtube pipe community and interesting quirky men, such as yourself. I can't afford a really nice pipe yet like a Peterson or Chacom, so I've just been using MM cobs for now. Thanks for the video!
I often contemplate the state of the world 🌎 whilst in deep prayer to God, there is nothing more fascinating than to look up into the heavens and have a conversation with Christ. I would love to be seated on a throne like chair on the edge of a tall mountain with my pipe and conversation with the most high, and a little drink to, fathoming eternity and so much more.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful passage and bringing it to mind again, and for all the recent pipe smoking spells in your library. I hope that this Lent will be an un-dragoning experience for us all. (Not sure I'm quite ready to join you in pipe smoking but good to see and hear the pleasure it brings others.)
I was reminded of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader today by one of your poems The Call of the Disciples. He calls us all to step aboard his ship, Take the adventure on this morning’s wing, Raise sail with him, launch out into the deep, Whatever storms or floods are threatening Specifically, I thought of Reepicheep and his love of adventure whatever the consequences and I wondered if you had him in mind when you wrote those words
yes, I was thinking of the Gospel incident of Jesus on the boat in the storm but those lines about taking the adventure definitely had a touch of the Dawn Treader
Absolutely love your channel! You give me so much inspiration, comfort and wisdom! May you be as old as Gandalf! 🙏 Hope you will continue with these wonderful spells for a long time! I will light a pipe for you! And read my edition of Le Morte d'Arthur by Malory.
Fantastic! I'm loving these journeys into books of our childhood 😃 Marvellous looking pipe , I too a pipe smoker , wonder what your favourite Peterson blends are
I finished my personal study, I built 3 standing wall shelves for my favorite books and now I will wait for my grandson to be born which should be in 7 months but I want to read to him and show him a world he gets to custom to his own like
my wife and I are watching every video now Grandad. we absolutely love you and its a time for us to catch up with each other. would you ever consider reciting Robert Service? (its my gals favorite)
Im 32 years old. I long for a friend like this man, kind full of stories and knowledge. I just found the channel I'm already a big fan.

the englishman has that santa appeal.
Santa with blood clots from being twice jabbed
It’s like Bilbo Baggins has walked out of a story and cometh to life.
@@thebluemystic indeed!
This

It's lovely to hear from you so often these last few weeks, Malcolm. Do keep sharing. I'd forgotten how beautiful the 'undragoning' was.
Many thanks!

Thanks, yes for some unknown reason the youtube algorithm seems suddenly to be on my side!
Thank you! I’ve never connected Eustaces’ undragoning with the season of Lent before- lovely
Aren’t you so wonderful. Please keep sharing your knowledge. The little ones need it ❤️❤️❤️
After being a fan of LOTR for my whole life, you helped me to go out and seek the book for myself. Read the full chapter on Bilbos party today on my flight 🎉 thank you
Stumbled upon your videos,
To my delight. I light my cigar,
You light your pipe.
Cheers from Canada
Wonderful - and yes, we all need some “undragoning” during the season of Lent.
I had forgotten just how wonderfully evocative that passage is. Thank you for a beautiful Lenten reminder!
Sitting at the foot of a tree in a park on a sunny evening, smoking an aromatic in my meerschaum while this video plays and I can’t remember the last time I felt so cozy. Cheers Malcolm, love your channel ❤
lovely symbolics, laying of the old man, getting baptised and putting on the new man
Malcolm I too must shed my dragon skin. Thanks for reminding me.
Officially label me addicted to this channel. The epitome of coziness.

I always tear up at Aslan encounters...
In spirit I like to imagine myself a hobbit - with access to Narnia.
i haven’t read this since i was a kid in elementary school but that scene with him scratching his scales off has aLways stuck with me. how lovely to hear it again

Saving this video for tonight when I'm sitting with a lil beer
VotDT is my favorite Narnia episode, by far, and the dragoning and undragoning of Eustace Scrubb is my favorite part of the Dawn Treader. Thanks for this gem of a reminder.
Theres a few of us now, all sitting around, listening, coming over to have a drink, chat, smoke and listen. hang on, we need a log fire too now
I always loved the scene where Edmund and Eustace commiserate in concert. Might be my favourite scene from this book!
This is so nice to paint my warhammer fantasy models to. I just sit back listen to you smoking and read poetry of King Arthur, Tolkien and all the rest. And I just unwind and paint. Thanks Malcolm!

A literal library laden down with knowledge.

oh how i'm glad to hear you fine man.
the dragon as a beast from the long imagination of Britain is really fascinating to me.
