I was thinking that too! I have a little experience with stop motion and an app on my phone to make it. If Malcolm brings the doll to the George MacDonald conference in may, I could maybe help him out with that 😄
Finding this before Christmas in 2024! Took me right back to reading this as a child and all the magic I felt with the chronicles of Narnia! Love the doll of you too! ❤
I enjoy coming home from work and putting on your channel. It's calming to see you in your study, smoking your pipe and reading the various poems and stories that bring you joy. We, who watch your channel, get joy as well. MERRY CHRISTMAS to you, your wife and the rest of your family. Cheers.
"She has kept me out for a long time, but I have got in at last!" These words actually brought me to tears. It speaks to the hope of final victory. I'm glad Lewis kept him in
“Re-gifting” is often viewed as a tacky gesture. But this… this kind of re-gifting is anything but cheap. Thank you for sharing this beautiful Christmas gift from Lewis! Come to think of it, isn’t giving any gift of worth actuality a re-gifting? What do we have that we have not received? We can only give out of what has been given to us. And the Gift we receive is one that will never be exhausted in the sharing! Christmas blessings to you, Malcolm!
Hi Malcolm, greetings to you on Christmas Eve! I have just enjoyed a bowl of early morning pipe with a steaming hot coffee (and shot of baileys) whilst listening to your marvellous narration of a personal favourite moment from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Thank you for the peace and joy you have brought me this year, i wish you and yours a very merry Christmas, may God bless you!
The delight of my youth returned with this reading. Thank you Sir. I know now that I must return to Narnia soon…especially over the Winter solstice. Ryan
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has been added to our Christmas movie list, thanks to Father Christmas. So many moments of high emotion in the film.
Thankyou for wishing us a good christmas but also thankyou for making it far more likely for some of us to have one with these videos. Also, a big thankyou to the person behind the camera who does such a great job of capturing these episodes!
Solemnity and gladness 🥰 You don’t often hear people pair those two, and yet it makes complete sense. Proof that there is so much more depth and breadth and nuance to discover. Further up and further in 🍻
When I was a pastor in Northern Alberta, Canada, one of our congregants put up on the power point slide a greeting as everyone was coming in and waiting for church to start. It read: "______(Our town) Where it is always winter and never Christmas." This was a quote from Narnia. This was to be a joke, but the more people came in, the more he read the emotion of the church as of sadness and despair. You see, snow fell in October and stayed all the way until May. He took it down and we moved on with church. Months later, I preached on the coming of Christmas-it was December- and referenced this reading as one of hope and context. It was a nice, almost Advent move on this fellow's joke a month's prior. Thank you so much for reading today and it brought me closer to wanting, waiting for Christmas.
Pipe smoking is what brought me to this channel, but these great videos are what kept me. I've never actually read any of the Tolkien books or CS Lewis books but now I plan to!
The knitted little man is you to a ‘T’, complete with ruffled white hair and shaggy beard! Father Christmas and Uncle Holly! I will never forget meeting both of them after emerging from the amazing Christmas Grotto. The Grotto showcased Fairytale Characters telling their own story.
Thank you for introducing me to many different poems and stories. I found you through my love of Tolkien. Happy Christmas and hope for a peaceful New Year.😊🎄🎄
Had such a great time at the Wheaton College Gettys concert at Edman Chapel. Very much enjoyed the talk you, Keith Getty and Jerry Root did as well as your readings for the Lessons & Carols. Merry Christmas!
Thank you to you and your wife for making all your lovely bright videos to share with so many. A Merry Christmas to you both and a guid New Year, with good health, sending love from an appreciative pair. 🤗 Love the mini Malcolm too! What fun!
I read the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe again just a couple of weeks ago and it was the very best of ways to usher in the Christmas Season, so much so that I think I will do so every December! I read it to my kids when they were little and we now have a granddaughter to whom I hope to have the pleasure of reading Lewis' Narnia series. Thank you for reading a selection! The crocheted amigurumi doll of you is absolutely perfect! Well done to whomever made it for you! Brilliant! Merry Christmas to you and Maggie and all your family! 🙏🎄💖
Greetings from Norfolk. I have watched a few of your videos now and always feel quite comfortable, and as if I'm having a nice conversation with somebody. It's refreshing to say the least, in this day and age. A very merry Christmas to you boy.
Mr. Guite, I wanted to take advantage of the season to thank you for developing my interest in poetry. I am 65 years old, have always read a lot, but have never been interested in poetry until I found your channel on RUclips. I was at a used bookstore a few days ago, and found a 1967 volume containing the poems of Lord Byron, Keats and Shelley. I am reading through the Lord Byron section now. Delicious stuff. Thank you for making these videos, and thank your for the wonderful gift of poetry you have given me. Merry Christmas, from Adam in eastern Tennessee.
I would humbly suggest you check out Rainer Maria Rilke. Extraordinary and beautiful poetry from who has been described as the poet of poverty. I would also say, the poet of praise.
Very lovely reading excerpt and your thoughts on it. This is the first Christmas that I am without my parents as they both have passed away just recently, my mother unexpectedly in March and I've not really gotten over her loss nor my father back three years ago. We all had always shared the holidays together as we were all friends and got along well. So this year is especially depressing and dark and I have a difficult time feeling the seasons spirit. But your talks do help a bit with getting my nostalgia feeling up.
I've never understood why Tolkien didn't like Lewis including Father Christmas in the story. To me it has always made sense. I suppose if we think in terms of Santa Claus, it doesn't make too much sense, but Lewis was writing about the ancient figure of British folklore who was the harbinger of the coming light. And his presence, more than any other in the story, really signifies the beginning of the witches power breaking! And those words he announces - "Aslan is on the move!" - those words are powerful! I only wish Lewis had brought old Father Christmas back in some of the other books. That one fleeting moment was too short. It would have been nice to see him some more...
Malcolm, I hear you are writing a poem about New York City, which you will read at Carnegie Hall. When can we see this poem? I wish I could give a copy to my daughter for Christmas. Can’t wait! LOVE your Malcom puppet, and Christmas in Narnia.
I posted the poem on my blog so you can get the text from that. Here's the link: malcolmguite.wordpress.com/2022/12/25/a-tale-of-two-gardens-a-new-christmas-poem/
Oddly enough I feel this way about Bombadil in Lotr. To me Tom feels and plays as if he is from another world or the world before Middle Earth and everyone in the story seems to feel the same way. No one knows where he comes from they just say he is.
Love the little doll of you it's adorable. Orlando wants to know what kind of meershum pipe is that that is sitting on your mantelpiece? Anyway Merry Christmas to you and your family!!
Love this passage of the book, I remember it being quite a striking yet joyful revelation reading it as a child. Two other points. One, I love your knitted doppelgänger there, I’d love to see more cameos by him in the future. Two, may I enquire which shape number your pipe is in this video? Is it a 302, 303, etc. I own one Peterson, but am looking to acquire another. Thank you for our wonderful meetings here. Merry Christmas and God bless!
Tolkien's dislike of Father Christmas appearing in Narnia probably comes from the fact that what he himself was trying to accomplish with The Lord of the Rings was very different. I think Middle Earth was meant to feel real in much the same way that our world feels real--it has its own consistent internal logic, even if it is a different sort of logic than that which governs our world. Narnia, on the other hand, is a new realm of Creation, and as such, has not settled into any kind of logic at all, which means that all of these strange things can coexist without any contradiction. Just my thoughts on the matter.
Request: an episode where a stop-motion-animated Malcom doll reads Tolkien. Pretty sure this would break (our little corner of) the internet.
I was thinking that too! I have a little experience with stop motion and an app on my phone to make it. If Malcolm brings the doll to the George MacDonald conference in may, I could maybe help him out with that 😄
let's do that!
That sounds like a great idea. :)
“Aslan is on the move.” That phrase always gives me goosebumps and a nostalgic joy. Merry Christmas.
Finding this before Christmas in 2024! Took me right back to reading this as a child and all the magic I felt with the chronicles of Narnia! Love the doll of you too! ❤

You, sir, are a complete and total joy. Even in the worst of days - that i am having now - you manage to bring hope. And remind me of hope
I'm sorry you're having bad days but glad if my channel is any help to you
Thank you.
Forget the elf on the shelf... here's the scop in the workshop. The Americans will love that. 🤣🤣
ah 'the scops twang, the iron flash of consonants cleaving the line'
I LIVE for these sessions. I've never read the Narnia books. Please them aloud. Dean Robert Willis read The Wind in the Willows and it was wonderful.
Happy Christmas from the Callan family in Toronto, Canada, your words are most appreciated.
Thank you to you and your wife for making all your lovely bright videos to share with so many. A Merry Christmas to you both and a guid New Year, with good health, sending love from an appreciative pair. 🤗 Love the mini Malcolm too! What fun!
These videos should be by candlelight!

A WONDERFUL reading, Dr. Guite! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I shall. Thank you for the suggestion.
I'm delighted to have kindled your interest in poetry. And yes 'delicious' is just the right word to describe some of Byron's poetry!

Good Evening 😊 Awesome read 👌🏽Merry Christmas 🎄 Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thank you. It's been far too long since I've smoked a pipe, sipped a bourbon, and visited Narnia.
Oddly enough I feel this way about Bombadil in Lotr.
To me Tom feels and plays as if he is from another world or the world before Middle Earth and everyone in the story seems to feel the same way. No one knows where he comes from they just say he is.
yes that's an interesting comparison
Well then Sir Tolkein might not have mentioned a train in reference to the dragon fireworks in Lord of the Rings
Love the little doll of you it's adorable. Orlando wants to know what kind of meershum pipe is that that is sitting on your mantelpiece? Anyway Merry Christmas to you and your family!!
It's a turkish meerschaum pipe that I bought in Istanbul!
Good video

looks like Dr. Zayus.

I agree with you
I think this is one of the few occasions where Tolkien was wrong
God Jül 🥃 Malcolm
What’s the title of this book?
The Lion, The Withc and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis
I am here for the pipe
