    Mica looks good in a candle but it can cause problems when you actually burn it. It can clog the wick and make it hard to burn properly. The best use for mica is in wax melts.

    • @daddylessbehavior
      @daddylessbehavior 3 года назад +4

      It's less of a problem with woodwicks, especially multi wood wicks as they have increased surface area. You can also just lightly brush the surface of the finish candle for a "gold leaf" sort of look and it won't be too much. As for directly into the candle, about a pinch or two for 16oz. The amount shown in the video is way too much for a cotton wick and might even push it for a wooden one. Like less than a pea size works fine.

    Food coloring works when mixed in with soy flakes before melting! At least for me it’s worked!

  • @abigee6898
    @abigee6898 4 года назад +36

    Yes, Food coloring won't work with candle making because its liquid. Use powder base or oil base coloring only. When you use Mica powder or any colorant for candles, once the wax has melted add the colorant and stir for 2-3 minutes for it to blend well and have better result once your wax has cooled

      I’m sure it looks good, but if it doesn’t burn because pigment clogs the wick you just wasted time and wax. Can’t sell it. It fails the test.

      I have a question. What am i doing wrong. I add specific candle wax colourant to the wax when it's all melted. Been stirring and stirring and stirring for more than 5 mins and the colourant just falls to the bottom and stays as lil balls. Ive googled this problem but not found anything along these lines as even a problem that people know about. Dx i think it was too hot?

    Hey, I’ve tried mica powder and I cannot recommend it look beautiful but it overwhelms the wick and it turns itself off so your candle doesn’t burn properly. Use it for wax melts instead. Also only use 1 to 5 grams of mica per kg of wax, even for melts.

    Think about like when you make chocolate milk. When you put too much syrup in you just have a lot of syrup. There is a limit to how much of the mica can be properly distributed in the wax. A spoonful was probably too much.
