Born in 1967 I saw ANH in my early childhood together with a neighborhood boy and I was flabbergasted. Buying toys was the second step. Kept my collection, but sold it later on. Later on I decided to collect again. More vintage figures than I had before, some special, some regular. My most favorite figure is (of course) Boba Fett, but also Luke farm boy and Luke Bespin.
Fantastic video, Dan! I have two answers to your question. Firstly, I became a haphazard toy collector absolutely accidentally - and it’s all your fault 😆. You see, one day not long after I turned thirty I was feeling nostalgic and decided to see if RUclips had the intro to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe; it’d been years since I’d seen the show and, well, you know how that goes. So, here I am looking for that intro and I run up on a review for an action figure for some dude called “King Grayskull”. Having not seen the MYP He-Man, I had no clue who he was. So, clicky clicky on the video I go. After about an hour going through your vids I ended up subscribing. Three years later, I bit the bullet and get Classics He-Man, Skeletor, Panthor (kitty!), and Battle Cat. Now, much much later I have the Origins Rammy, RED Optimus Prime, Drizzt and Guen from Hasbro, and a few other pieces, like the Knightfall Batman from Mcfarlane. Now, part two. Back in 2019 I was feeling hungry, but not starving, so I got a Happy Meal from McDonald’s that had Fire Luigi in it. So, I was on the hunt for Mario, but of course McDonald’s quit with Mario Brothers’s stuff soon after that day. BUT, I found a Detective Snoopy in one box and now I have several Happy Meal Snoopy’s, a Jurassic Park triceratops (somewhere), and a couple things from Lion King. So yeah, lots of accidental action figure collecting. And it’s all your fault and I couldn’t be happier because of it. Dude, thank you.
I had a few vintage ones as a kid, well, they still stayed with me all of these years. I never had a bunch. In my hometown, there was a toy show that setup in the mall sometimes. I did go and bought some more and completed a few that way. I do have the retro versions of ones I never had and wanted. I have no issues buying retro figures of the vintage I never had. I recently bought the vintage 3PO figure case for my figures. I have enough to fill it up. I don't have any playsets from it. I do have a few mini rigs. Those are fun with the right figures. I think it would be fun to have all the figures associated with Jabba. I have all of the bounty hunters. You're lucky Luke hasn't yellowed. Yeah, Ben has a vinyl robe and blue saber with the extra bit at the end as well. Back when I would go to the toy show in my hometown, I found Vader totally complete for 30 bucks. I need to get cloud city figures for my cloud car. Star Wars has a few grail stuff.
While I've never been big into Star Wars as a collector (love the movies, just didn't get into the toys much at first), as far back as I can remember, I've always had Han Solo & a dewback. I keep them with my dinosaurs because I didn't know who they were & by the time I figured it out (my parents didn't see the first Star Wars film until after I was born in '81!), it was too late & that's where they stayed until I moved out. My mom had a Tusken Raider with cloak & my sister found an Endor Bike Trooper digging in the sand once. Those are now part of my collection. Like you, I got into the late 90s & even early 2000s SW figures & I used to have a nice chunk of them, including the Comm Tech figures (had to sell when needed the money). As for accidental collecting: MOTU Classics. I know, blasphemy, right? When I first saw them, I thought, "No, I'm happy with my childhood collection", but after they shown He-Ro, I had to get him & He-Man. Then once Teela & She-Ra were out, I had them. Couple subscriptions later & some casual hole filling, I realized around Whiplash that I had nearly everyone. So I finished the collection as far as the first Super7 wave when I couldn't afford anymore at the time. Fast forward to having to sell 90% of that to make rent & I've become more of a casual collector instead picking here & there. I may find one day I've amassed another collection without realizing it, but so far it's a here & there kind of thing anymore.
Collecting is an addiction. I will literally collect one line, eventually get bored, and then sell it off and move on to some other random line. Rinse and repeat.
It seems for most collectors, the hobby is the hunt, not the 'have'. You see it when people get to the end of a theme, then start on the obscure, or bootleg or adjacent themes.
Not sure if this counts, but in response to accidentally starting a collection: I recently became a Playmates Star Trek collector ... again. I had some as a kid, but they went missing when I moved out of my parents house for college. I had always assumed they were gone because after 20+ years they had never turned up. Fast forward to this year and my parents are downsizing their home so we are helping them get rid of excess stuff. There, in the back of their walk-in closet under a pile of unrelated boxes we found my childhood collection. So now, the hunt for the missing figures in my collection begins anew. :)
I think this is what the fun of toy hunting is all about, sometimes you can accidentally found a particular objet that you discover in a garage sales or toy that you haven’t seen for years and all of the sudden shows up on the front of you in a convention and you pick it up just because you like it. Then you put it with your collection, that's all :) . Now if you want them all (like they use to say on the back of the figures's card:) ) you don't need to rush, just carry on, as many loose figures are still around, and except the last 15 (Ewoks paploo & Lumat are part of the 1984 Jedi set of figures, not 1985) just keep hunting, as long as you are happy to collect them :) P.S.: Btw, I sent you a few months ago a copy of my interactive book about Star Wars Kenner toy line, just let me know if it arrived well. No rush just let me know when you have time. Take care Dan!
No "oops" about, Dan. Aside from MOTU, it simply doesn't get any better than Kenner Star Wars. Collect away (though it can lead you down an expensive rabbit hole)!
While I love toys, I'm not a collector. I watch your content because I really enjoy sharing in your excitement of the hunt, the find, and the shared nostalgic feeling when you come across various things. I appreciate your knowledge and expertise when it comes to toys and toy adjacent items. You bring a positive, friendly, and high-energy face to toy collecting and everything involved with it. Thank you for sharing this journey with us, and thanks to your family for joining you on your toy adventures.
Born in 75. Parents, family and friends will absolutely shape your own perspective with life. I watched cowboy movies because my dad liked John Wayne. I got an Atari because my much older brothers needed an excuse to buy one. I learned to play with sticks when all else fails, because in each of their own ways they wanted me to enjoy some of the fun they experienced when they enjoyed it. I'm just going to play sockball with some sticks but I'm glad you can help me remember more abundant times.
I always remember you saying how much nostalgia you get over POTF and I had a similar childhood experience! My dad & I hunted modern on the shelves & vintage in flea markets, great memories!
I think that the best thing Star Wars figs does be it Kenner or Hasbro is the droids The problem with Star Wars is that if you just want to collect the essential characters it runs to at least 30 figs including the Rebel Alliance, The Empire and bounty hunters/criminal underworld. If you add a very stripped back approach to army builders say 3-4 each of those characters You realise that basically you couldn't afford the space or money required to do Star Wars properly. Let alone thinking about Mando or Ahsoka. It's a terrifying prospect. I do love Star Wars tho. Even the new series have been really enjoyable for me. Love the channel dude 👍🤘
I'll probably never buy it, but I have always wanted the Jabba the Hut set. That little trap door that he came with, while nothing like the movie, always captured my imagination as a child.
I was born in 1970, I had a handful of action figures and Darth Vader’s Tie Advanced X1. However, I’ve been preferring since 2013 to collect modern figures due to modern technology. As you may know the majority of people who are nostalgic for POTF line and Jar - Jar are fans that were children during that time. -The Disneyland Neighbor
I was born in 1975, SW came before MOTU. I collected a lot of Kenner SW. SW was, and is my first love. When ROTJ ended, by late 1984 I was in deep on MOTU.
I have the odd Star Wars vintage figure loose without weapons which suits me most of the time. I also have quite a few of the retro collection figures for the original trilogy as these are adequate enough for me for nostalgia and its a lot cheaper.
I feel very similarly about vintage kenner Star Wars. Its ridiculously more affordable to get the 90s kenner power of the force line I grew up with. While these original figures go for crazy prices. I only have a few of the wacky pieces, like the Cap-2 captivator mini rig mech and the Gonk droid. The droids do have a nice clean functional look don't they? More inspiring than the screen accurate models in the vintage collection today. Maybe that's the appeal.
Dan, wait until you see a Death Star playset out in the wild. I guarantee you'll be bringing it home. It's kind of the inspiration for all the awesome 80s playsets that came after.
I've had a lot of kenner Star wars in passing from thrifting. a co worker actually gave me a full wave 1 set that I parted out and sold. i've seen landos, leias, they never sell for much. but they are fun to look at for a short while.
for me it's probably beast wars, specifically the transmetal line. I found t.m. megatron for cheap and got the reissue of the original bw megatron for $18 and that's when I realized after 25 years I finally had all 4 beast wars megatrons and if I got tm optimus i'd have all 4 of him as well. Now I cant stop browsing transmetal beast wars figures on ebay lol
I had so many cool Star Wars figures and Transformers when I was a kid. Think I was about 16 when I gave away 95% of them to a younger kid down the street. Made him happy so no regrets I guess. Wasn't until I was into my forties that I started collecting again, and doing figure photography. Cheaper than sports cars for the midlife crisis anyway 😂.
Can’t say I’ve ever accidentally become a collector of a toy line. I’m extremely picky with what I buy. If it’s not rare or cool, I’m not buying it. For example… nobody needs a Gwildor motu figure.. ever
I have a few from when I was a kid (born in '79), but it wasn't a favorite line as a kid. I was more into He-Man and GIJoe. I was super into the PotF2 starting in high school to make up for not having many Kenner vintage. I have picked up more over the years. I really like the Retro Collection for characters that never had a 3.75/5 POA version.
Im a Star wars collector , and I watch your videos beacuse I dont know about Turtles and other He-man figures, so cool youre in star wars now "accidentally" haha have a grat day Dan , hello from México
At some point I decided to not collect anything newer than 1990. Then I started to find some cool 90´s action figure stuff and one of the finds was 7 Toxic Crusaders mint on cards from fleamarket for 3€/piece.... Now I have one whole ikea bookself for 90´s toys and figures.... XD

One of us, one of us. You should be able to get most of the figures you want without weapons for $5-10 in bins at Kane. The weapons and last 17 are the only things that make collecting vintage expensive.
Check out Thrillsville down in Edwardsville. They’ve got a ton of figures and some of the huge vehicles like the Imperial Shuttle, CIB Falcon, complete AT-AT, etc etc etc
i collect modern 1:18th scale and do customizing picked up a clone wars juggernaut tank to customize and a vintage Boba Fett was hiding inside the lookout post!! first vintage figure
I have my childhood Han and Lando (I think from RotJ because I was 4 then), but have no intention of collecting now. I vividly remember as a kid tossing Kenner SW aside when I discovered the much beefier He-Man and (to a lesser extent) the much more posable and detailed (yep, that mattered to me even as a little kid) GI Joe. I just do not dig that form factor (though I didn’t understand these terms then).
I only have a single figure from the original line (minus the remains of jabba throne which I use for my Black figure), which is Prune Face I got carded back in the early 90s but opened at the time. I ended up buying both Power of the Force releases of him so I guess I collect him now.
Hi Dan, I am pretty sure you already have 4LOM😁, he is the black Empire Strikes Back Droid from your line-up- Zukkus is the khaki-coloured insektiod bountyhunter with the fly eyes.
Unfortunately, GI Joe annihilated any interest I had in Kenner Star Wars action figures. I was handed a Cobra Commander while I was playing with Luke outside and I dropped Luke and forgot about him for 9 months. The next spring I was playing in the same place and dug Luke up and went "Oh, yeah". The only way these would stay in my collection is if someone gave them to me as a gift and I knew they would find out if I sold them.
My all time favorite heart string toy is gi joe. 80's to very early 90's. I have a few motu, a Darth Vader and come apart c3po and wicket. That's it for star wars though I LOVE the original movies
I do that now with different things and relies I just started a new collection. I used to have a lot of Star Wars toys but sold them about 6 months ago. I always liked the speeder bike triopers
I’ll just get the first 12….. oh and maybe the bounty hunters…. And maybe the figures from the first movie….. next minute I’m overrun with figures. I did the same with TMNT, I’ll just get the first 10….. MASK was just the vehicles from when I was a kid. Now I have a whole room full of vintage toys and video games
I was born in 1970 and I collected star wars from the 70's when moving couple of times when I was younger I lost them so I'm trying to recollect what I had.
I was born 1984, starwars toys in my house cos of my brother nd sister😊❤, so had naatolgia, altho like u main focus was heman transformers thundercats nd turtles
Its cheaper to buy the figure and getting repo capes/weapons that buying a complete one now also the Ewoks Lando & Leia from Jabbas palace often show up with the masks/Hats on as cheap as with out on ebay and you need a Jabba hes very important as its the best looking Jabba thats ever been put out
Looks like we arein the reverse because I already have the vintage kenner star wars action figures which is nostalgic. But now I am hunting every power of the force 2 line wihich is not nostalgic for me
Awesome job dan drop a like for you with the toy hunting and yesterday i turned 30 years okd on my birthday . Plus I m gojng toy hunting in nyc of three stores thst have toys with five stars review
@awesomeadamfrom2099 The one in Queens that I mentioned is called the Nostalgia Museum. It's in Astoria. It has toys from the '80s and '90s, which is exactly what I'm looking for since I grew up then with toys like Masters of the Universe and Star Wars.
Who collects Kenner Star Wars? Favorite figure from the line?
Luke Skywalker action figure❤😊
Yoda 1980. Bespin Luke 1980. And most of all... Princess Leia 1978. ❤
Farmboy Luke, just a classic figure...
Jedi knigh Luke and Ewoks, stay heavy and blessings! 🤘😎
Imperial Gunner.
"I've got two Boba Fetts."

PotF2 line hits the nostalgia button hard. Great video, thanks!

It’s funny when I saw the intro and knew where you were looking at the figs on the tiered display hahaha.
My favs are Han on Bespin, 8D8 and Boba Fett

Fav for myself is Yoda or Luke in Stormtrooper disguise 🏴☠️

That shirt is so 90's! I love it!

My wife and I kinda did this with vintage licensed Wilson cake pans...now they line one wall of our kitchen!
I had so many cool Star Wars figures and Transformers when I was a kid. Think I was about 16 when I gave away 95% of them to a younger kid down the street. Made him happy so no regrets I guess.

Great. Now I feel old. I was born in 1975, so I experienced all that Star Wars stuff mostly as it happened.
Im a Star wars collector , and I watch your videos beacuse I dont know about Turtles and other He-man figures, so cool youre in star wars now "accidentally" haha have a grat day Dan , hello from México
My favorite figure from that line was the Scout Trooper with Speeder Bike
I always pick up the twelve inch ones when I see them and have amassed quite a collection.
As I collected Star Wars toys I somehow started coilecting Strawberry Shortcake...now I have a huge collection, wasn't expecting to
At some point I decided to not collect anything newer than 1990. Then I started to find some cool 90´s action figure stuff and one of the finds was 7 Toxic Crusaders mint on cards from fleamarket for 3€/piece.... Now I have one whole ikea bookself for 90´s toys and figures.... XD
You should give Dan Larson the extra Boba Fett next time you see him, I think he needs one.
Before all that if you have not picked up the hot wheels “battle cat” monster truck then well,….your not coming round to play 😂
Collect only what you like. Balance saving, investing and spending💪
One of the best toylines ever so not a bad one to accidentally get into!
I started with Power of the Force in the 90's, I Understand Dan...XD
I'm shocked that you never collected vintage Star wars. It's a fun toy line and movies lol.
Does the result of watching a Pixel Dan video count as an accidental collection?
Saw the Gashapon Tamagoras video. Now have a collection! 😂
Dan, you should check out Stan Solo, their star wars figures are amazing, you can flll gaps with Stan Solo.
middle aged man overcomes his fear to buy toys with his money
So glad I ended up getting the full set of vintage loose figures with real weapons about 15yr ago, only started to send them away for grading 6 month ago

I just do not dig that form factor (though I didn’t understand these terms then).
I highly recommend the stan solo yakface and amanaman. They fit perfectly in the line without the pricetag
How open are you to 3p repros? I know there are cheaper fanmade options for the rare last 17.
It's ok Dan. I just jumped down the rabbit hole of WWE figures. I don't even gave room for them. Great video as always.
Ive still got some of mine im 53 yrs old my favs the 4 pack figure awesome vid dan 👍
Unfortunately, GI Joe annihilated any interest I had in Kenner Star Wars action figures. I always start with one figure, tell myself that's all I need, and then fall down the well.
I'm not a toy collector the only thing I know about toys is from watching you hunt toys.
Can't say i've ever done that before. I'm very selective on what I buy.
My all time favorite heart string toy is gi joe. 80's to very early 90's. I have a few motu, a Darth Vader and come apart c3po and wicket. That's it for star wars though I LOVE the original movies
What the heck is a Star War? Those little plastic guys look weird.
Yoda......YOU JUST MADE THE LIST!😂
i was only going to be a vintage collection collector but i somehow ended up with 8 black series as well, not quite a collector yet but i could be.
I do that now with different things and relies I just started a new collection. I used to have a lot of Star Wars toys but sold them about 6 months ago. I always liked the speeder bike triopers
My name says it all, I have countless unintentional collections
I’ll just get the first 12….. oh and maybe the bounty hunters…. And maybe the figures from the first movie….. next minute I’m overrun with figures. I did the same with TMNT, I’ll just get the first 10….. MASK was just the vehicles from when I was a kid. Now I have a whole room full of vintage toys and video games
I have to stop and think about what I have now, so I don’t pick up as much when I go out and hunt or I end up with doubles.
I mostly collection 1/64 diecast vehicles but I collect some action figures but mostly star wars even my wife buys me stuff for my collection
Yes Justice league unlimited. I love them and there’s too many so I’m only getting my favourite sculpts
"It's too late to collect kenner star wars" It's never too late!
Now why would you need 2 Bobby Fetts? You should probably give 1 of them to Dan Larson...
I rember video way back 10modd years of you collecting star wars .it was first video i watched of yours he he .
I was born in 1970 and I collected star wars from the 70's when moving couple of times when I was younger I lost them so I'm trying to recollect what I had.
The original Dulok you have, isn't Gorneesh. It's his wife, Lady Urgah :)
In collecting game.. There is no accident dan.. You are just try to find a reason.. 😂😂😂
Next video: Pixel Dan sleeping on Dan Larson's couch due to Stina not being a fan of Dan starting another collection
Love the comment about keeping them in the packaging, I did the same 😂
When I Was A Wee Lass I HAD The Max Rebo Band!!!
It is way to late to collect anything star wars, seeing it's dead since 2012
You need a Yakface!
gonk is love. gonk is life. i want to be the dan larson of gonk droids.
I was born 1984, starwars toys in my house cos of my brother nd sister😊❤, so had naatolgia, altho like u main focus was heman transformers thundercats nd turtles
May the force be with you😉
Its cheaper to buy the figure and getting repo capes/weapons that buying a complete one now also the Ewoks Lando & Leia from Jabbas palace often show up with the masks/Hats on as cheap as with out on ebay and you need a Jabba hes very important as its the best looking Jabba thats ever been put out
"Once you [begin collecting Kenner Star Wars], forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will." Enjoy!!!
Oh, and Biker Scout is probably my favorite
are you gonna get some gi joes?
We had the Emperor
Cool stuff!
Looks like we arein the reverse because I already have the vintage kenner star wars action figures which is nostalgic. But now I am hunting every power of the force 2 line wihich is not nostalgic for me
Dude, you've got money just buy them instead of hoping your subscribers will buy them for you.
Gotcha!

No problem
@awesomeadamfrom2099 The one in Queens that I mentioned is called the Nostalgia Museum. It's in Astoria. It has toys from the '80s and '90s, which is exactly what I'm looking for since I grew up then with toys like Masters of the Universe and Star Wars.
But… you DO have boushh Leia
Yes!!!
I'm 2 years older than Pixel Dan!?
