Well, I have a F1, but the first model, fully mechanical, no battery needed (except for the meter), and a 50mm f/1.4. Recently ordered 4 rools of double X to try out, I'm anxiously waiting for it to arrive. Loved your shoot, those big windows really are a bonus, and help the light mood tremendously.
I was given a mint F2 Nikon. It has the metered finder but it doesn't meter accurate at all. So I am thinking about getting the eye level non meter finder. It looks much better anyway but wow the price for one is so high.
I've a Canon F1 new too, it's a brilliant camera and the one I lift off the shelf first when I go out taking 35mm shots. It feels indestructible in the hand. I've the aperture priority head which gives me both manual and AE - and it displays different needles in different windows depending on the mode. You need to add the winder to give shutter priority, I have one but it's just too bulky to use and my photography doesn't really suit shutter priority. It doesn't have a full auto mode. Also shot a few rolls of 5222 and got amazing results, developed it in ID11 and also in microphen.
I feel like the wonder would be cool to have but would prob not use it myself. I shoot to fast as it is 😃. I can also count on my hands how many times I’ve used shutter priority, like you said just does not fit what I am usually doing. Thanks for watching! Also, I sort of consider Aperture priority a fully auto mode - though I know that is not correct…
I am tempted to pick up a bulk of that film. I prefer to buy a bulk roll and cut it to how I want which is around 30 frames give or take for 35MM which is format I'm loving more and more everyday. There are a couple other films that I want to try out, those being Adox CHS 20 II and Rollei Retro S 400.
My absolute favorite SLR! I pair it with the 50mm 1.4 SSC most of the time, because the older lens is so much nicer than the nFD. Sadly I tried every Canon zoom for FD, and they're all either too big, too soft, too fragile(28-85), have weak rubber internals instead of teflon, or combinations of all of those. After testing all the 3rd party options, the Tamron SP 35-80mm model "01A" wins, with the 17A a close second. Either of those performs as good or better than the Canon options, without the weaknesses. Another great video sir!
Thanks! and for the info on the zooms, appreciate it... I have always just stayed away because of what you mention. I believe my 35 is the SSC. it has the nuclear element that turns it yellow... set it on a uv table evry once in a while. though I do want to test the contrast increase when it is full on radioactive and yellow 🤔
My initial impressions is I might as much as much and for 35mm like it more (cost is a factor here)... However I do shoot a ton of Hp5 and have not used that much of the Kodak so a little early to say.
@@DistphotoFYI - Flic Film makes "Black White and Green" developer that has the same active ingredients as Xtol, without the 5L batch size. It's a syrup like Rodinal with long shelf life and mix-on-use flexibility. I stopped using DDX and Xtol in favor of BW&G and get comparable results. Cheers.
Still have yet to get to it, hopefully soon (working on a few stubborn large format prints at the moment) But looking forward to it for sure. Will try to update when I can
I started with Canon back in the mid 80s. I could never afford the F1 so I got the A1 and then the T90. Loved both of those cameras. Thanks for the video.
The F1 then the F1N were my workhorses in the 70’s and 80’s. Still have my old 50 1.2 L FD. I added a T90 in the 80’s for the lightning fast motor drive of 3(?) frames a second. It was all plastic unlike the F1 metal tanks but it was a great camera bc it was so lightweight. The motor drive built into them were a godsend. The F1’s by contrast were beasts w their heavy motor drives added on if u were shooting all day in the field. Nothing like having only 1/2 stop of latitude w color film unlike today’s 15 stops with digital. No one in a million years back then would have believed it possible
The images looked good, on the TV, the grain did not look at bad at all, and the contrast levels looked perfect...
Thank you!

Have wanted to try the Rollei Retro myself... So many films, so little time 😂
Instead of using a handheld meter, could you use a digital camera to take a sample photo to determine optimal settings ?
Yes you can, might want to test it before anything important but I have found my cameras to be pretty consistent.

The F1N is a way underrated camera. I hadn't heard of this film, thx for the tip. How does it compare to HP5?

Nice ! I use Double X at 640 and developed in Diafine. I also have an F1 and EF with a bunch of SSC lens.that I love using. Thanks for the video .
Thanks you, will be pushing some a bit in the future as it is supposed to be really flexible 👍 wanted to stay safe for the first attempts!

Really like double x too ^^
Nice 👍
Cool shots.
XX comes in 400’ rolls from Kodak.
I got a big 400ft Rollnof this film for dirt cheap. I really love the results I get with it.
Awesome, I want to get a BIG roll now 😂
@@Distphoto Just ask at Kodak. You are living in the US, perhaps it is even cheaper for you, than for me who lives in Europe. :)
And What about printing white this film?
Still have yet to get to it, hopefully soon (working on a few stubborn large format prints at the moment) But looking forward to it for sure. Will try to update when I can
that's beautiful film I love it I will have to give it a try
Indeed... Very lovely, thanks!
Try use D96
Water (750mL), Metol (1.5g), Sodium Sulfite (Anhydrous) (75g), Hydroquinone (1.5g), Borax (Decahydrate) (4.5g), Potassium Bromide (0.4g)
Will do. Thanks!
You have an opportunity here on RUclips to Show us What you were Talking about. Spooling, loading film, what devises and the process…
I will see about that 👍🏻

I have been told the T90 might be one of the best. Definitley has a cool retro 80's look. From what I gather has pretty much every feature...

Ektol? I assume you meant Xtol?
Yea, did I not pronounce it correctly. How I’ve always said it 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks!
You bet! Thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks Steve!
