@techscrews my nephews tossed a buncha toys in the hole how do i open the back panel? it's not as easy as it looks in the video i tookk off all the screws already
Hi, I'm in UK. I know this thread is quite old but I hope this comment helps someone in 2023! I fixed my intermittent / dead left channel by replacing the thin cable with the 3.5 mm jack that connects to the source. I did not need to buy a replacement controller - which is good as there doesn't appear to be one available in UK! I purchased my unit new back in the day so have had it quite a few years. My left speaker stopped working. After swapping the satellite speakers around I determined that both satellites were fine but the left channel wasn't working. I disconnected the unit from the supply, took the remote control apart (the screws are under the 4 rubber feet). You also need to undo the locknut under the volume control (just pull the knob off gently). Once apart I sprayed contact cleaner on the pots and then started doing continuity tests with a multimeter. The volume pot was fine: 10 k ohm at max, 0 ohm at min, smooth operation. Testing the connection from the 3.5 mm jack (that plugs into the source - my desktop PC in this case) back to the PCB, I could see that the left channel (the tip of the jack) was open circuit. Doing a bit more trial and error I found that the issue was the cable itself. This after cutting the cable at both ends and testing the raw conductors. Luckily I had an old 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo cable lying around, so I cut the plug off one end, stripped the cable and used that as a replacement. To replace it you need to de-solder the old cable from the PCB. There's a bunch of glue there that needs to be prised off so that you can get proper access to the old cable connections. Anyway I carefully soldered the new cable in, tested continuity again and all was good. I used a cable tie around the new cable inside the controller to act as a simple strain relief mechanism. There is no more glue! Anyway, all I'd say is that before throwing the unit out or trying to get hold of a new controller, do these simple checks to see where the problem lies. Then you can make a decision. Cheers Michael

Great vid! Thanks. What blows me away about this system is how good the amplifier is! The subwoofer is solid and sounds really good! So on a whim i decided to remove the satellites and hook the amp and sub up to my Mirage Om12 tower speakers. OMG!! It's my main setup now. I am coming from Large horn speakers and 2A3 tube amps and that amp is magical. I purchased a spare at a good price just in case. Try it with a nice pair of speakers that are somewhat efficient. The Mirage's are 90db sensitivity. Smile came immediately to my face when i tried really nice speakers. Who would of thunk! :)
@not today My Mirage OM12's are rated at 30 -150 watts RMS per channel. I have had them as loud as i ever would want them to go personally. They ALWAYS sounded clean and tight. Never an issue or inkling that the speaker or amp were struggling. The cooling fins on the back of the subwoofer/amp were warm (that is what they are there for to dissipate heat) but never hot. Speakers are 6-8ohm 90db efficiency. Most of my volume on the logitech volume knob would be within the 9 and 11 o'clock range. 11 being LOUD. Maybe if you were trying to drive VERY inefficient speakers say 84db with a 4 ohm load? I think most speakers would be fine. I've also tried my 4 ohm Polk vintage 5jr's with this amp and that also sound amazing. I just prefer the larger towers for my living room and that little logitech subwoofer/amp fills the room with amazing class AB amp sound. The later logitechs use a class D amp i believe.
@not today Hey no problem and you are welcome! The power going to the satellites is 40watts per channel and i believe that was into 8 ohms. It is a very clean power and i believe those specs. If you have the room and the budget you can get really nice speakers that will sound great with just the sub/amp. My understanding is that the engineers were given a cost no object to get the brand off the ground and these early logitech's were the culmination of that. Also my understanding is that later logitechs don't sound nearly as good but i have no experience hearing them to confirm this. You will need to get special speaker cables or adaptor. I found a 12 gauge wire on ebay that was pretty decent that was a single RCA (like the original satellites) into dual banana plugs. Think the pair of cables was like $25..ish. Stick with 8 ohm speakers with a sensitivity of around 89 or higher and you will be fine. Like i said, my Mirage tower speakers that are 40" tall sound amazing and rocks when called for with this amp! That being said it also sounds sweet with jazz or classical. Sounds clean and clear and punchy and warm. I love the sound of tubes and this amp is definitely on the side of warm and sweet and not analytical. I also purchased a tube buffer/preamp from Suca Audio(Tube-T1) to go before it. That has separate bass and treble controls. Very nice inexpensive unit i got on Amazon for around $40. I have that turned up all the way and just control volume from the logitech. Cheers!
@not today Sure thing! Forgot to mention that i also needed to get some different adaptor wires to put the tube buffer between. So that was an adaptor that had two rca females on one end (to accept the male rca's coming out of the tube preamp) and a single female 3.5mm stereo on the other end (to accept the green angled male connector from the logitech controler)
@not today Just wanted to add that when i tried different speakers for the first time i wasn't expecting much. I was TOTALLY shocked how much better it sounds with regular speakers and not satellites. Couldn't believe it and you don't need the tube buffer to notice that difference. Ridiculously better!
@not today There is absolutely nothing lacking in the treble when i hooked up the two speakers i mentioned. I would chalk that up to the edifier possibly not delivering the goods. I did not know that edifier made passive speakers. All i ever heard from that brand were powered speakers. You certainly wouldn't want to try that with this set up!
I have 2 sets of this exact same system. I am getting no sound from one set. For z2300 use 8 inch bass drivers from Tang Band HiFi speaker brand and it cosr around 70-90$, thats more than second hand price for full z2300 set. You need just take any 8ohm 8 inch sub and put in your. Or just repair stock driver.
Ja, damals als Logitech noch Tangband Treiber genommen hat, waren die Systeme halbwegs in Ordnung, jetzt sind sie nur noch Müll. Tangband an sich sind echt gut.
@@SpeakerMaster942 I'm not talking about longevity but sound quality. Most of these systems maybe very long lasting but most of them don't sound that good.

I have the z5500 which is also good. Just wish it didnt have a subsonic filter and the bass would have been awesome
why so complicated ? Just disconnect speakers. Rather you will get a bit cleaner sound on louder bass, becouse power supply have more power reserve, but it will most likely not be heard in the ear, there is no point in it. These is PC multimedia speakers, not HiFI, just buy better system.
@TragestyX No, it will not matter. because the original sound enters crossover circuits, then into two separate amplification circuits. Subwoofer gets its own amplifier, and the stereo channels get their own amplifier. You can see 4 voltage regulators, so you can know. And in most consumer powered speakers, it's common to see both amplifiers on one PCB. And for the transformer is huge. Are you having problems with power?

Thanks, that was just what I was looking for when I couldn't figure out how to get into the big box. My on/off switch seems to be going out & I still don't know how to fix it with everything cement gooped in on the inside.
I've had this setup for easily over 10 years with no problems...until now. I think one of my kids stuck something in the subwoofer port and now it rattles when the bass hits. No amount of twisting and turning will get it out. I need to take the woofer out but I can't seem to do that without destroying the front grille and trim. Any suggestions?
my z2300s will not play with my new acer t desktop. with my hp computer i plugged them directly to my hdmi tv but this does not work with acer nor plugging them into the mic jack. the speakers that came with acer plug into a usb socket. any solution?
sorry, but I don't understand your situation. If you connect your speakers 3.5mm jack to mobile phone, that work ? - If yes, that what kind of system you want use together with z2300 ? I hope, I can help you.
I bought them in 2006. Recently one of the satelites broke. I replaced them with a chifi amp (aiyima a07) and wharfedale 220 speakers I put the sub in sub-out using it as active subwoofer. The sound is unbalanced now (crossover is way off) so i ordered a chifi amp for the sub (aiyima a3001) and i will connect it directly to the sub. Hoping to get at least another 10 years out of the remaining sub!!
Update, got the project done. Wow this is really a game-changer. Being able to balance the woofer with the speakers, basically cut the crossover down from what it was with the internal amp and filter. The woofer also is way more clean and feisty now!
how do you take off the back panel? i tried to do the same exact thing as the video and it ain't budging, i need to get stuff kids threw into the sub....

I have. My Z-2300 set is pretty much in pristine condition on outside, but those L/R speakers are humming constantly. No matter what's the outlet and if the jack is plugged in or not, they're still humming when there's no sound coming thru them. @@micarone No I was unable to fix them. Nothing looked blown, I think I found something that said to resolder a couple of wires instead of the pigtail it was using. Put them back together and still using them, humming seems like its gotten worse recently though lol.

lmao i still have these speakers from the pc my uncle used to let me use in like 2008, still kicking but theres a rattling sound that comes from toys i used to put in there when i was 4 (i was an idiot)
I have this speaker under my desk. Nearly five years after this video was posted, this happened to me... I was replacing the batteries in a mini-flashlight and dropped the back cover. I heard a hollow thunk. After searching under the desk and not finding it, I concluded that the cover had bounced off the carpet and into this speaker's baffle hole (which for some reason was facing the FRONT of the desk)! Rotating the speaker, and hearing a rattling sound, I was disheartened that my theory was confirmed. What are the odds! After repeated attempts to rotate and shake the chassis to see if I could make the part come out of the orifice through which it entered, I decided I was going to have to take the speaker apart. I found this video AFTER attempting to remove the back (the last thing shown here). Even after going to the trouble of removing the huge number of screws, I could not get the back off (even using pliars on the heatsink, like the poster id). Ultimately I was able to pry off the speaker's metal screen, remove the speker, and retrieve the flashlight cover. This video helped. The speaker is back in place, now with the the FRONT of the speaker facing the FRONT of the desk!

Can u help me with this or can i send a video to u someway? My Z 2300 subwoofer i dont have the speakers becouse i got it for 5 dollars but it maked weird sounds or distortion or something :( do u know what the problem is
just put inside another subwoofer driver :)
@@Techscrews Where can i buy that
ArtūrsM and if i take the grill off can i but it back on again?
For z2300 use 8 inch bass drivers from Tang Band HiFi speaker brand and it cosr around 70-90$, thats more than second hand price for full z2300 set. You need just take any 8ohm 8 inch sub and put in your. Or just repair stock driver.
of course, you can put it back on again.
Интересно у вас спросить, а какой сабвуфер дает более качественный бас? Radiotehnika Silway ASW-1 или Logitech Z2300?

Nice 🙂
@@speakerpat The Z906 is not junk, it has had a lot of hard times with me and has been in operation for 3.5 years, but the rest is weak
@@SpeakerMaster942 I'm not talking about longevity but sound quality. Most of these systems maybe very long lasting but most of them don't sound that good.
@@speakerpat The Z906 has very good movie sound quality and the best sounding Logitech subwoofer, and the amplifier is better than the Z-2300 and Z-5500
@@SpeakerMaster942 i agree. My brother has the new z906. Purchased new around 3 yrs ago. Bass is deeper and nicer. At 4 to 5 bars the bass is already great. We've never even tested the bass at max. I have the z5500 which is also good. Just wish it didnt have a subsonic filter and the bass would have been awesome
I have the older verson,Z-2500 or Z600 i think is is,it just get gone dead silent, can it been the fuse,or is it the resistors that have been dry out?
If you disconnected the left right channel wires inside on the circuit board, would the amplifier then sound more power to the subwoofer?
why so complicated ? Just disconnect speakers. Rather you will get a bit cleaner sound on louder bass, becouse power supply have more power reserve, but it will most likely not be heard in the ear, there is no point in it. These is PC multimedia speakers, not HiFI, just buy better system.
@@Techscrews okay so you don't know the answer to the question thank you
@TragestyX No, it will not matter. because the original sound enters crossover circuits, then into two separate amplification circuits. Subwoofer gets its own amplifier, and the stereo channels get their own amplifier. You can see 4 voltage regulators, so you can know. And in most consumer powered speakers, it's common to see both amplifiers on one PCB. And for the transformer is huge. Are you having problems with power?
I found this video while trying to fix my right speaker not working. Suddenly at the end of the clip they just started to work!
I have one, but... Without the controller. Is there a way to go around that? Directly connect an aux ore something
Just buy aftermarket remote.
Does this sound have any power supply? mine burned because I put it on 220v and I don't know what I need to change, if it's some kind of power supply or just the fuse. help pls
the black rca port on my subwoofer doesn't work. what is the best way to fix this or replace it. i know the 2 speakers works because i connect them both to the yellow port at the back and the speakers run. but the right rca is confimed broken. is there any way i could fix that?
These were my dream speakers 15 years ago. I guess they would still sound decent but i'm not the biggest fan of dedicated subwoofers anymore.
Thanks, that was just what I was looking for when I couldn't figure out how to get into the big box. My on/off switch seems to be going out & I still don't know how to fix it with everything cement gooped in on the inside.

I've had this setup for easily over 10 years with no problems...until now. I think one of my kids stuck something in the subwoofer port and now it rattles when the bass hits. my z2300s will not play with my new acer t desktop. with my hp computer i plugged them directly to my hdmi tv but this does not work with acer nor plugging them into the mic jack. the speakers that came with acer plug into a usb socket. any solution?

I was gonna say - it’s all about how you have set your sound card or audio driver or sound setting on the laptop. USB or “speakers” for example.
Sub of my z2300 is busted, how and what can i change it with?? Pls help
I bought them in 2006. Recently one of the satelites broke.
I replaced them with a chifi amp (aiyima a07) and wharfedale 220 speakers
I put the sub in sub-out using it as active subwoofer.
You mean sub back panel ?
@@Techscrews yes, the back panel for the subwoofer. I took out all the outside perimeter screws, took a set of pliers and pulled the heat sink real hard, didn't even budge

@@Techscrews oh... Love these speakers!! I had some crackling happening on the satellites (when nothing is playing), so caved-in and bought the replacement pod to avoid replacing the whole set-up. Ouch--the crackles are still there, exactly the same, which means it must be coming from the electronics in the sub :( Any suggestions?
@not today Did you try the replacement pod? That fixes most of the problems. I had external interference from a wifi modem as well.

How to make its aux cable . Mine is cut . Please help

im taking mine apart right now to see if there are any blown caps..... Ive got an issue with the L/R speakers buzzing/humming. If I have music on I dont hear it, but its pretty annoying when the audio is low or off. Tried different outlets and does it with/without the audio jack plugged in. Anyone ran into this before?
I have. My Z-2300 set is pretty much in pristine condition on outside, but those L/R speakers are humming constantly. No matter what's the outlet and if the jack is plugged in or not, they're still humming when there's no sound coming thru them. Haven't opened up my set yet, but if you already have, did you find a problem and a way to fix it?
@@micarone No I was unable to fix them. Nothing looked blown, I think I found something that said to resolder a couple of wires instead of the pigtail it was using. Put them back together and still using them, humming seems like its gotten worse recently though lol.
@@HagenRacing Thanks for the info. I'm still using my Z-2300 set also and getting used to live with that humming. 😁 On my set that humming hasn't get any worse though.
I'm going to use my set until it totally dies, because Z-2300 has been the best sounding 2.1 set I've had so far. Especially Bass-wise. 😁
Seems that the z2300 and z cinema are the same subs but different amps
, a lot better than I expected for the cost.
I've seen and heard a lot worse. I have a Logitech 2.1. system hooked up to my bedroom TV and it sure sounds a heckova lot better than just the tv.
Pretty much any speaker system with a subwoofer sounds better than just tv speakers
Where can I find a sound card because mine doesn't work anymore
any computer shop, if you have laptop buy usb sound card, if you have PC, take usb or PCI sound card. Somethink nomal quality cost around 40-60$
lmao i still have these speakers from the pc my uncle used to let me use in like 2008, still kicking but theres a rattling sound that comes from toys i used to put in there when i was 4 (i was an idiot)
Can I work It without the Control pod?
no.
Thank you this was so helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Merry Christmas!

Say what you want about the Logitech Z-2300..but there's a reason it still pulls $300 used and a grand if you can find one new. I've had this setup for 7+ years and have yet to "upgrade" because nothing sounds better.
you've probably not seen another computer speaker inside ? The Logitech Z-2300 are very good sounding speakers, almost all of users use it more then 7 years without any problems.
Where are you seeing those kinds of prices? I'm seeing them going for as low as $50 on eBay.
Logitech actually did make some good speakers in this era, BTW, not doubting your opinion of these speakers. I haven't heard the Z-2300s but I'm actually a big fan of the X-230/X-530. Those were amazing value for the money.
Probably ebay a couple months ago when I commented. Only NEW one I see is asking "$1,003.74" to Buy It Now. If you're seeing one used/complete/working for $50 I'd pick it up for sure.
