Diana is a beautiful singer. She had a difficult childhood. She was abandoned in a bus station in the winter by her mother. She was sent to an orphanage where she was adopted by another family when she was 6 years old. She had a problem in speaking, therefore the new family sent her to a school using singing to improve the speech. They recognize that she has a talent for singing. Well, polyphonic isn’t a classification, it’s just the modulation shes using to sound like this. But she could also just sing it normally. It’s not stuck to her voice type.

Yes she is a dramatic contralto, which means she has full strong rich deep voice. But it's her resonances and unique timbre that makes hersound unique, different than any otger contralto. She also uses many singing techniques unused by operatic contraltos like yodeling, etc which makes her even more exceptional and unconventional, truly amazing.
Diana’s ‘I can’t help falling in love’ was my first experience with her incredible talent. I can still remember my reaction: goosebumps, chills, I was mesmerised, couldn’t breathe and was silently crying. I watched it a couple of times more.
After this I still wanted more! Watched ‘Wicked Game’ and was completely blown away. Again. I can say that since then I am a super fan and watch and listen to her every day.
Since the first time (April 2022) I have watched ‘I can’t help falling in love’ literally hundreds of times.

I came across Diana about 3 years ago. She blew me away. Still does. So unique and talented. I too have never heard anyone like Diana Ankudinova before - and I'm in my 50s. Hi, I first came across Diana a few years ago, prior to this performance from September 2021 when she was 18 years old - she turned 20 on 31st May 2023. Yes, her voice is a contralto (lowest female voice type). As for the song, this arrangement, by US producer/composer Tommee Profitt, changed it from a major to a minor key and also stripped away most of the lyrics, consequently the whole feeling of the song is turned 180 degrees.

I think that is probably the very first time I've heard a siren who was a contralto! Usually it's a soprano that just has that kind of hypnotic quality to her voice, and contraltos bring the power. Not to say she's not powerful (far from it) it's just a surprise how she can both blow you away and hypnotize you all at once with her very clean vocals.

I had become addicted to Diana a little over a year before this video came out. And I remember that day. It was a Sunday and I knew the NTB channel was going to be posting this new competition. Not knowing when Diana would perform, I sat in front of my computer for like 3 hours. She was the last performer and when her song finished, I knew it was special.

The trick to pronounce her name is to stress the middle syllables, AH and DEE. In fact, if you pronounce her last name as Uncle-DEEno-vuh, that's close enough for someone who doesn't speak Russian.

Diana feels the music strongly and makes you feel the music. I would recommend her cover of Chris Isaac's Wicked Game. It's the first song I heard her sing. While hearing it, it feel like my brain was having trouble interpreting what I was hearing because it felt so different from listing to anyone else sing.
