You know after going through a lot of the comments, I felt the need to add my 2 cents. For anyone making unsavory comments about the great Etta James, I honestly feel sorry for you that the Lord hasnt blessed you with the capability to enjoy great music. So here's my prediction. 50 years from today (and that's 2021 by the way), Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight etc will all be remembered, honored and cherished. We love you and will always cherish you.
She's also one of the Black singers Janice Joplin blatantly STOLE from - like so many white singers/musicians in the 50-70s did. Never giving the Black folks they stole from and tried hard to imitate...

Please, correct me if I am wrong, but I’ve never seen a performance like this on live tv in recent years. She was really just vibing and I loved that she wasn’t cut off or rushed.
According to her book, she originally wrote this as a gospel-type song. The song took on a different flavor once it was released and she went with the flow.
Now that’s a voice that stirs passions. Simultaneously brimming with the sincere rebellion of youth and musicality; by itself a cultural monument at the dawn of rock music and R&B. Amun!
I’d bet a thousand bucks that young Janis saw this performance on The Beat and her heart grew a billion times larger, just like ours just did💗⭐️❤️❤️❤️❤️

She's a legend. i love her voice.
Etta James was Janis Joplin's idol and for good reason - there has never been any other female singer like her!
Certainly Etta inspired Janice but each had also there own unique style.
YAS. Janis has had a lot of inspiration from Etta. Those two made history. Legends
Janis dreamed of being this good
Otis Redding too
Etta's feelings were so hurt when the Obama's chose Beyonce to sing At Last instead of her. That is her signature song.

Thank you Etta James & Tina Turner for showing me to be brutally truthful about being unapologetically black.
I ❤️ her and her sweater
Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Janis Jopling. Soul, Blues and Feeeeling rock style. Great !!
Joplin
Janis is a culture vulture, so no.
little bit of james brown too
Amy Winehouse too.
I'm an big Avicii fan since 2017... he brought me here (Levels, the greatest since ............ )... , of course I knew the original song, BUT I still didnt realise the magnitude of this song, until I watched/lisened to this video: Thankyou so much for sharing!
Been an avicci fan since 2011
Levels brought me here. I'm 68 , been an Avicii fan for 1 month, absolutely love his music. A music Icon, gone far too soon. RIP dear Tim. Xx
Levels took this to an entirely new level, to the extent that I can hear it through this song.
And Flo Rida too.
Etta at her BEST 👸🏽. This what singing is about without a whole BUNCH of back up singers etc. Natural & FULL of CLASS🎁 There you GO 💯 IRREPLACEABLE!!!
God Eye love black women😍😍😍🤞🏾
OMG forgive me for saying this but this women will eat every single singer alive with that kind of performance,, encroyable!!! perfect in many reasons..
So very true
the knowledge of my culture and roots in SOUL MUSIC brought me here
Lashid4u, now that's real
My beautiful and amazing mistress lol ..you're funny ..HILARIOUS!
lmao, your just so wrong that I am in disbelief that you actually think that. Your clearly just trying to be racist because no one can be that wrong and still be able to spell properly lol
Yes I am.
Imagine that shit. We'll have to tell our grandchildren that we people of African descent started rap/hip hop along with blues/soul and rock n roll 2 b/c they'll steal that 2. She....she joking....she must have tripped and fall and all her info is f*ck up. she must be joking.
Thank you Almighty God for this human being. A whole bunch of moods to heal ailments of any kind!
Came here after listening to the audio from a car in Taiwan that was missed by the falling boulder during the earthquake.
SAMEEEEEE
Blues? Rock? Soul? ....EVERYTHING!
Please, correct me if I am wrong, but I’ve never seen a performance like this on live tv in recent years. She was really just vibing and I loved that she wasn’t cut off or rushed.
Hoy la he puesto en el trabajo de madrugada, no han quedado indiferentes, les ha encantado, a mí también
that music is so badasss that i can dodge rockes rolling down hill
I'm just here to get my daily dose of Soul. These mainstream girls today aren't giving this
She looks good as hell, and sounds even better. Love this song.
I did not blink for five minutes straight.
Love the build/delay lead up to the money line.
Came for Jasmine and Gorgeous, and stayed for Etta. This is how you do it.
MASTERCLASS: Etta James
According to her book, she originally wrote this as a gospel-type song. The song took on a different flavor once it was released and she went with the flow.
That voice, that voice, that beautiful, strong voice!
This live performance deserves to be in a movie
4:18-4:35....what? Incredible!
My goodness
2020 and I'm listening
her and really love her songs it’s a pity that she’s not there but her music lives and she will always be our hearts Etta James
I heard of ETA James but never saw this performance and she is amazing .
Now that’s a voice that stirs passions. Simultaneously brimming with the sincere rebellion of youth and musicality; by itself a cultural monument at the dawn of rock music and R&B. Amun!
Stirs passions all right 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
We will never see the likes of music like this ever again
My, oh my, one of the best songs ever and this live version is electrifying.
Amaaaaazing ❤❤❤❤
Such a beautiful woman with an equally beautiful voice ❤
I’d bet a thousand bucks that young Janis saw this performance on The Beat and her heart grew a billion times larger, just like ours just did💗⭐️❤️❤️❤️❤️
