    This is one of the shell lace stitch patterns, which is a little more open.
    Ideal for decorative items or Spring/ Summer blouses and handbags.
    Instructions:
    Crochet Shell Stitch
    Chain a multiple of 6 plus 3
    In this case, I chained 18+3=21
    Ch= chain
    Sc=single crochet
    Dc=double crochet
    Repeat from * to
    Single crochet starting on second chain from the hook.
    Row 1.-Ch3. skip 3 and on the 4th stitch make 3dc, ch2, 3dc,
    *skip 5 stitches and on the 6th make 3dc, ch2, 3dc end with skip 3 and on the 4th, make 1dc.
    Row 2 and all rows until desired leinght.-
    Ch3, on the top of the shell, (where you chained 2), make 3dc, ch2, 3dc repeat until last stitch and make
    1dc on top of that.
    You may want to leave the edge like it is or make 1 row of single crochet.

    Thank you so much. I just started to crochet after my mother passed away last May. She often made this pattern for afghans and baby blankets. I wanted to make a small blanket for my grandson just like the one Mom had made for my son when he was a baby. This pattern was just what I needed since sadly I can't ask my mother to show me.😥 Again, thank you. Easy to follow instructions.

    How do you finish off the last row to make it look the the very first row?

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  8 лет назад +2

      You single crochet on each one, without adding or skipping. See that you have the same amount of stitches you started with.

    I’ve looked at other patterns and they were not as clear as yours. You went into an understanding I was able to follow. The only problem is when I get to the last dc (end) I try to remember the three chain rule for the start of a new row and the ending. Do you go into the chain or go under the chain three from the lower (this is before you chain 3 then turn)?

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  4 года назад

      I go into the chain but I guess picking up the 3 chain loop can't hurt!

  • @Donnabunk62
    @Donnabunk62 3 года назад

    Do you only crochet into the second stitch at the beginning?

    If I want to make an afghan, how do I finish off last row so that it is straight on top and not shelled

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  8 лет назад

      +Debbie Weinstein If you start with 3 (or+) rows of single crochet, to give it body at the base, you do the same at the top. single crochet on every chain 3 (or+) rows.

    So I would have crocheted 11 single crochet then ch 3 then turn ?
    Sorry, I'm still new at crocheting and still learning new stitches.

    How many stitches do u need for a twin size blanket thank u

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  4 года назад +1

      Make a swatch and measure how many stitches 4" gives you. Then multiply. It depends on how you crochet, the yarn and hook you use, the size of blanket you want to make...
