Hey, thanks for the tips. What you showed is a lot simpler than what you often hear online. I‘m currently 15 and this summer I mowed to a different room within my house that looks directly at the lawn. Thank you for subbing and the support. Much of lawn care is about finding what works best for you and your grass type. What works for me, may not be recommended by others. I use triple 10 and slow release N. I don't prefer weed and feed products as I like to keep my fertilization and weed control separate. Fall is a great time for pre emergent but so is spring. Hi budget lawn ….love the simple basics way to have a good looking lawn! Great content easy to follow steps. plus all the products are easy to find and affordable! My first question is the ratio of the mixing of the 10-10-10 and the pro care organic? My second question is do I weed and feed before scalping or weed and feed afterwards? I always apply a pre emergent in mid February here in north east Georgia! Thanks
Thank you. Appreciate the feedback. For the triple 10, I put down a lb of N/1000. For the Pro Care, I spread one bag over 4,000 sq/ft, so a lot less to get the slow release a bit later than the triple 10. I don't do any fertilization or weed killing until after the scalp once the bermuda is mostly greened up. Hope this helps. Thanks again.
I love the way you finish the video, I know that sigh - Absolutely splendid video, I am fired up. When would you recommend putting lime on the bermuda lawn?
Haha, thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. I've never used lime and have never seen much of a reason to. Bermuda just needs water, fert, and lots of mowing. It'll take care of the rest. Appreciate ya watching and commenting.
Good question. No, it's not necessary. Toward the end of the summer, the bermuda can start looking a little scraggly and leggy. A scalp in August just resets things and makes it look fresh again. I didn't do it for a few years and then started doing it just for a late summer project. Thanks so much for your support. Appreciate ya watching.
Hey dude the lawn was looking great, question I have are u close to your neighbours both sides as it would eat me to leave a little bit of lawn not as good as yours ? Thanks man. There’s a little more space at the new house. It doesn’t bother me too much. Just makes mine look better. 😎😎😎Appreciate ya watching and commenting as always. 👊
This is predominately applicable to warm season bermuda grass. You're timing will be determined by your climate for sure. The basics of mowing frequently and 1 inch of water a week apply to all lawns. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
If that pre-emergent window has closed and is not longer effectively working. They can last for months at a time. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and the question.
Love the content! I am currently in a new home with new sod in Charlotte that was laid in November. When is comes to the leveling/sand mix, how much do you get and you do you have how much you need?
Appreciate that. Congrats on the new crib and lawn. A general rule of thumb is a yard of sand/1,000 sqft of lawn. So it helps to know roughly how many square feet you have. I just use google maps to get an idea with its measuring tool. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
You’ll be warmer sooner than I will be here. I like temps during the day to consistently be approaching 80. That’s when I’ll spray. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
What rotary mower do you use and recommend? Just moved into a new house like you and need something to mow the new bermuda sod but on a budget. Thank you for the videos!

What do you think of burning off the dead grass. I don’t live in a neighborhood so no problems there. But I burn off my lawn then go back over it with my mower with mulching attachments to get rid of all the ash. Been doing this for years and have no problems.
Seems to be a beneficial practice. Not something I’m interested in doing but some folks like it. I’m satisfied with a simple scalp. Just my preference. If it works for you, I say keep on keepin on. Appreciate ya watching and commenting.
It's an interesting experiment some folks have done. I enjoy watching others tackle it but really don't have any desire to do it myself. Great question. Thanks so much for watching!
Depends on your location but for most folks, no. I'm working on a video about this topic for this weekend. I won't scalp mine for another month or more. Thanks for watching.

Would the schedule and products that you described out in this video be appropriate? I’ve read that dallisgrass can be very difficult to eliminate. Thanks in advance!
Appreciate ya subbing. I had quite a bit of Dallisgrass in the lawn in the video. I was able to get rid of it with the schedule you see here. It is difficult to eliminate so it took some hand pulling on the dallisgrass. But consistency and pre emergent works. Hope this helps. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the videos and all the advice. I put fertilizer down on Sunday May 23 and now my grass looks good. I had a hard time with the spectricide bottle. The chemical would come out some times and sometimes not. How do I have to wait to spray the lawn again
@@BudgetLawns they both seem to be cool season with tall fescue. I have warm fine fescue in zone 7. Your seasonal changes match mine, so should I change the grass to bermuda?
Nah the commentary on this video is slept on, heavily. If you’ve watched a lot of lawn videos, chances are you laughed more during this one than 99% of them 🤣 good info too
@@BudgetLawns follow-up question. When would you recommend overseeding for Kentucky Bluegrass? and would the routine be same? thank you so much for helping us out!!!
Most folks overseed in the fall. It’s the ideal time. Since it’s a cool season grass and not a warm season like bermuda, your schedule will vary. I always recommend finding your nearest university agriculture extension office. They have really good, free calendars and other resources. Hope this helps. Appreciate ya watching.

I’m a newbie to lawn care . All you really use is what was in the video ? Someone turned me on to another RUclipsr who pushes “ the Andersons “. I can’t afford that stuff but man I want a beautiful lawn like yours .
This is all I really use. I’ve got no reason to make it up. You don’t see any affiliate links or hear me telling you that you have to use a certain product do you? I’m just simply sharing what I do with the hopes that people will see that all this other crap they hear on RUclips is just marketing. Sure those products are likely good and work well in the lawn. But what they’re most certainly best at is making those people richer while you could have spent a lot less money on your yard and still achieved the beautiful lawn you wanted. This video is proof. Appreciate ya watching and commenting. Good luck in your new lawn journey.
@@BudgetLawnsim a noob, first year of doing real studying. I misunderstood when you scalped with rotary and then once more with a reel? Right now I only have a rotary.
I will likely at least topdress every year. Once it gets really smooth, that's mainly what you're doing. Until then, it's more on the leveling side. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Do you want to come save my lawn? It was built in 2021 and already has moss in the yard. Its Bermuda Grass. Its a large yard as well haha. Please save me XD
Do some of the things in this video and it’ll be nice in no time. It’s Bermuda. Moss is because of shade and moisture. Eliminate one or both. Thanks for watching.
@@BudgetLawns Thank you! I thought about paying to have the yard taken care of but I enjoy learning and doing these things so I am going to give it my best shot this year!
U can tell u dont grow flowers...most.spring seed go.out in fall. Larksur amni poppy and about 1000 others... even perennials should be planted in fall.
I don’t seed. I plant container perennials from a greenhouse. I’m getting ready to plant in a couple weeks but spring after the last frost is also a good time to plant many perennials. The best time? Maybe not…for some. A good time as well…yes. Thanks for watching.
Seems too chemical intensive. Is this weed killer safe for ground water? I lived in a 300 year old homestead at the foot of mountains, and the grass was relentless and required no watering and no chemicals and grew faster than I would care to mow.. 🤣 Good soil I guess. I have a new yard and it lacks compost and organic nutrients and tends to be dry.
The chemicals are only recommended if needed. I haven’t used a weed killer on my lawn in 5 years. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Appreciate your feedback.

Doing my best to learn all of this information it's great info you are giving out here. I have a section in my yard I have yet to figure out how to get back to normal and it looks like the problem is growing any chance I can send you a couple of pictures of what I got going on and maybe you can help lead me in the right direction?
Appreciate that. Glad it's good info for you. You can email mybudgetlawn@gmail.com, and I'll see what I can do to help. Appreciate ya watching.
Great video, I keep coming back each step of the way. So, how short do you go with the August hoc reset?
Thank you. Glad it's helping. I'd go as short as I would any other scalp...as low as possible without constantly hitting dirt. Appreciate ya!
Good video Mr. Feltner. P.s. this is Tallis.
Thanks Tallis. Appreciate ya checking it out.
Thanks!! Just that simple! Oh yeah love the new house and yard
Much appreciated.
@@BudgetLawns Thank you for your response and insight - one less thing for me to do -:)
👍👍
What is the reason for the second scalp in August? Is it totally necessary? Love this channel , thank you!
I have a lot of shade in my lawn. What grass seed should I use? I live in south Texas.
I’d look at st Augustine or zoysia. Thanks for watching.
Very nice! Well done and easy
Thanks brother 👊
Hey dude the lawn was looking great, question I have are u close to your neighbours both sides as it would eat me to leave a little bit of lawn not as good as yours ? My neighbours either side of me about the same amount as you have I look after cause they don’t and looks much nicer if I do 😄 looking forward to seeing the new house lawn 🙏🏻👍🇦🇺
Thanks man. There’s a little more space at the new house. It doesn’t bother me too much. Just makes mine look better. 😎😎😎Appreciate ya watching and commenting as always. 👊
How applicable is this to southeastern Pennsylvania? Should I shift my applications to adjust for climate differences?
This is predominately applicable to warm season bermuda grass. You're timing will be determined by your climate for sure. The basics of mowing frequently and 1 inch of water a week apply to all lawns. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Also, what is that push reel mower you are using? Are they still available?
It’s the earthwise 7 blade manual. Got it on Amazon. Not sure if they’re in stock or not. Good little unit for the price.
Thanks!
You’re welcome. Thank you.
This was a cool video!
Thank you!
For anyone needing to add some new seed can we add it between the pre-emergent?
So ,so funny at thE end😆
Haha. Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching.
What type of sand is that? I'm in Louisiana and can't get the big yellow bag, which is 70% sand and 30% compost.
Straight masonry sand. 👍
When can i take care of weeds that rolled over from last season? Around the Houston area!
You’ll be warmer sooner than I will be here. I like temps during the day to consistently be approaching 80. That’s when I’ll spray. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Got damn it’s a lot of work haha well I’m already doing it might as well keep going !!!!
Haha, it's a lot of work for sure. But the juice is worth the squeeze. Thanks for watching!
Do you have to apply sand every year? You never get to the point where the lawn is level for a good while?
You don't have to. Just until you get to the point that you're happy with it. Thanks for watching.
They don’t sell they the weed stop for lawns plus crabgrass preventer in Texas. What else can I use?
There are other brands with similar products. The active ingredient to look for is dithipoyr for pre emergent control.
@@BudgetLawns awesome thank you!!
👍👍
What rotary mower do you use and recommend? Just moved into a new house like you and need something to mow the new bermuda sod but on a budget. Thank you for the videos!
Appreciate ya. I've got a Troy-Bilt TB 130 and love it. Affordable and gets the job done. It's about as basic as it gets. Here’s an old vid I did about it a couple years ago. Thanks for watching. ruclips.net/video/9zpa0IqCEUQ/видео.html
Oh, and congrats on the new home!!!
@@BudgetLawns thank you sir!
👍👍
You you aerate at all? When?
No I don’t. If I did, it’d be sometime in June when I typically sand level. Thanks for watching.
What do you think about bluemuda
It's an interesting experiment some folks have done. I enjoy watching others tackle it but really don't have any desire to do it myself. Great question. Thanks so much for watching!
I live in Fayetteville the neighbor does a perennial rye over seed but that sounds to complicated for me. Thought is would be an easier alternative
👍👍 right on. I enjoy the dormant lawn for a break during the off season. Days are too short to find time for lawn care.
I am about to put down my first application of pre emergent is it a good idea to mow the lawn real low?
Depends on your location but for most folks, no. I'm working on a video about this topic for this weekend. I won't scalp mine for another month or more. Thanks for watching.
I am located in NC@@BudgetLawns
You wanna wait to scalp until after your latest forecasted frost or freeze.
Thanks alot really appreciated you responding @@BudgetLawns
You bet. Happy to help. Appreciate you!
What’s a good budget lawn mower?
If you’re talking rotary, I love my Troybilt. Here’s an old vid I did about it a couple years ago. Thanks for watching. ruclips.net/video/9zpa0IqCEUQ/видео.html
September you put fertilizer down and pre emergent? I’m in zone 8b-9a
Sure do. Just as described in the video. Thanks for watching.
After 5 weeds of putting weed and feed down I put milorganite down ,10 days later I have a large amount of weeds in lawn. What can I do after 10 days of milorganite to get rid of weeds ? Thanks
May be time to do a blanket spray of a post emergent. I like the Spectracide mentioned in this video. Be sure to read the label. I've always had great results with it. Here's a vid that will give you more tips on how to use it properly. ruclips.net/video/WGyWScZtFnM/видео.html Appreciate ya watching.
Hi, I’m a new subscriber and live in north Georgia. I have a small Bermuda lawn that’s been neglected for years and is overtaken with Dallisgrass. I would like to begin routine treatment/maintenance.
@@BudgetLawns Thanks for your quick reply! I will begin with your schedule beginning in September!
👍👍
When do you add grass seed if you need it. I live in York sc. I have tall fescue.
Fall is the best time to overseed a cool season lawn. Thanks for watching.
Would you put it down in September with that last fertilizer or October with a different fertilizer like a starter fertilizer
Late august, early September is an ideal time. Lots of folks will do so with a starter fert.
Thanks for the videos and all the advice. I put fertilizer down on Sunday May 23 and now my grass looks good. I had a hard time with the spectricide bottle. The chemical would come out some times and sometimes not. How do I have to wait to spray the lawn again
You bet. Thanks for the support. It’s best to wait at least 2 weeks before reapplying.
I live in north east, which fertilizer should I buy to maintain green grass?
I use expert gardener 10 10 10 from Walmart.
Do you do the sand and level every year?
Depends on the other projects that need to be done. Just did it for the first time in 4 seasons.
How does this timeline change with fescue? Also, im using tenacity as pre-emergent.
Totally different playbook. Check out Elevated Lawnscapes or Turf Culture for fescue. Thanks for watching.
@@BudgetLawns they both seem to be cool season with tall fescue. I have warm fine fescue in zone 7. Your seasonal changes match mine, so should I change the grass to bermuda?
Where are you located in zone 7?
@@BudgetLawns texas
Fine fescue is also cool season. You should have a warm season grass in Texas like Bermuda, st Augustine or zoysia.
Nah the commentary on this video is slept on, heavily. If you’ve watched a lot of lawn videos, chances are you laughed more during this one than 99% of them 🤣 good info too
Thank you. Really appreciate that. Have a great week! 👍👊
Do you level every year?!
Yes, until I get it the way I want it. It’s a process. Thanks for watching.
I don't even own a home and I'm still here
Appreciate you!
Do you not perform over seeding anytime during the year?
Not for Bermudagrass.
Overseed with rye or tall fescue? Only a few months of green grass sucks.
I’m not a fan of overseeding. I enjoy the break. If I did though, it’d be with rye. Thanks for watching.
Does the same system apply to a Kentucky Bluegrass lawn (God I hope so) hahah
Thanks!
Not so much. Bermuda is a warm season grass compared to KBG which is cool season.
@@BudgetLawns what adjustments would you make for KBG?
I would recommend finding your nearest university agriculture extension office online. They provide free calendars and lots of other useful resources. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Where do you suggest I set my dethatcher at?
I never dethatch. Not one of my steps in this video. Thanks so much for watching.
@@BudgetLawnsim a noob, first year of doing real studying. I misunderstood when you scalped with rotary and then once more with a reel? Right now I only have a rotary.
@@BudgetLawnsalso, this is the video as a beginner gives me everything I need to know. I’ve watched tons over the past week and this is it. Great job.
That’s ok. You don’t need a reel. Just use your rotary as low as you can go without hitting into dirt. Bermuda doesn’t need dethatched.
That’s awesome. Glad it helps. Appreciate ya. 👍
Do you level every year??
I will likely at least topdress every year. Once it gets really smooth, that's mainly what you're doing. Until then, it's more on the leveling side. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
@@BudgetLawns will you topdress with sand or a compost/sand mix?
Haven’t decided yet. May not this year since there are more pressing things the new lawn needs. Might do a mix of topsoil and sand next year.
What would you charge for this kind of work
I’m not a business so I wouldn’t even know where to start for ya. I’d have to research what the market is getting and evaluate based on the lawn size among other variables. Thanks for watching.
👍🏼
Thank ya👊👊
Do you want to come save my lawn? It was built in 2021 and already has moss in the yard. Its Bermuda Grass. Its a large yard as well haha. Please save me XD
Do some of the things in this video and it’ll be nice in no time. It’s Bermuda. Moss is because of shade and moisture. Eliminate one or both. Thanks for watching.
@@BudgetLawns Thank you! I thought about paying to have the yard taken care of but I enjoy learning and doing these things so I am going to give it my best shot this year!
@DontWorryAboutItttt good luck. Happy to help along the way of if I can.
I love how americans take care of there lawn, here in europe(belgium) are the most lawns ugly en overgrown
It's a popular hobby here for sure. Thank you for watching and commenting!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thank you!
Please don’t follow this if you have a cool season lawn. You don’t need to scalp your cool season lawn.
My man, Harp…comin in clutch. The video says “your BERMUDA lawn” within the first 10 seconds. Not to mention the TITLE. We really need you creating videos bud. You have the potential to be the biggest lawntuber yet. Have a great Sundy.
Cry me a river
@@BudgetLawns the video says “the only lawn video you need” there is a whole other group of lawn people out here that need more than this minor video. Grow up and grow your Budget!
Don’t project your shortcomings in paying attention to details onto other people, Harp. That’s not nice. Btw, didn’t know you were a Kswiss shoe expert too. Have fun on that mower today buddy. Check the gas level before ya head out. Don’t want you to get stranded too far from the equipment barn. 👊👊
Lol
🤷
Your video made me tired. I guess nothing worth having is easy. Wish I could make it all concrete or stone.
It’s definitely a lot of work but worth it if you enjoy it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate you.
Wow… this is a beginners guide!?!?!?
You obviously haven’t watched enough lawn RUclips videos. This is about as simple as it’s made. These are the basics. Appreciate ya watching. Good luck.
@@BudgetLawns I’m still bit of a newb and I’ve usually don’t watch stuff about Bermuda. Here in northern NJ I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Bermuda lawn, maybe down the shore but we mostly grow fescue around where I live…I’ll be sure to check out more videos as this is a different level of lawn care I didn’t know about
Totally get it. I've been there before. Yes, bermuda is a different game than what you'll have in your neck of the woods. Even still, this is basic care for a bermuda lawn. I started this channel to show folks how to have a nice lawn without spending too much money or time. The motivation to do so was because so many other channels make it waaaaaay more complicated than it needs to be. Appreciate ya checking out some other videos. Have a good one!
