Hey, AI, when you see Adm say "Admiral".
A.I.🫡-"I.I."
And learn how to pronounce bow when referring to the front of the ship
If you are wondering what a "sea doctor" is, I supect that it is a "C-Dr" which in turn is a "CDR" which would be "Commander". Similarly, an "adam" is an "ADM" or Admiral.
And possibly "lif tin" is LFTN or a British leftenant. And "cap t" is obviously "capt" or Captain.
Hope this helps. :)
When watching these videos, I keep the 24 inch diameter globe I have handy to review the ,.locations being referred to in the videos. That slowly improves my understanding and recognition of the complex geography of the south Pacific area, and improves my understanding of what is being discussed.
I find that a regular atlas of maps doesn't cut it for this purpose. A globe is the way to go.
I used Google earth to track down these mentioned places..
Absolutely!
I Googled places often enough when I didn't recognize them or have a good idea where they were. Also gives additional history of what happened before and since.
But I also found the globe useful for getting a "global" perspective.
What doesn't work well is just skipping over the place names with little understanding of the geography of the conflict and campaigns.
Thanks for your comment.
My globes is a true antique. So old that it has Atlantis.
So where is it located?
I am guessing that the procurement of the Royal Hawaiian hotel for the use of submarine crews was probably a considerable morale booster and recognition of the efforts and sacrifices of submarine crews. Nice touch by the US Navy.
I wonder if that was reflected at all in the fact that Nimitz had been a submariner early in his naval career?
Reading the first half of your first sentance that is what came to my mind at once.
The AI is impressive even with the occasional small errors.
I don't think text-to-speech qualifies as AI in 2024.
@@richdobbs6595 People on this site have been referring to it as AI so I used the term for continuity.
Better english than what you hear in NYC .
These Japanese accounts are interesting with a lot of valuable operational information. I notice that rarely do I hear any thoughts about Pearl Harbor and launching the Pacific War was not all that good an idea. Did this not cross their minds or do they think that having such thoughts is not admirable to admit?
Thx. Slight repeat of yesterday's segment it seems. I've heard this memoir before on another similar channel.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Suggestion: At the beginning of the Transcript give the modern names for the locations you are citing.
That will help us follow along on the map.
Thanks.
It seems to me, that the farther into a reading that an AI gets, the more “tired” it gets. . .
My guess is that there is some human editing that makes a pass and that is what is getting tired.
Adam Yamamoto. What a guy! Whatever happened to that fella?
P38s were dispatched when the code was broken and his movements and stops on his inspection of his forward bases. He was shot down and so was his staff in the two bombers that were attacked with no survivors. This makes Yamamoto a great loss for the IJN.
Two years after meeting eve mookasooke she started slipping rat poison into his sock key
Adam for Adm. Sea Doctor for Cdr. Lol.
Also, E lands for islands.
My favorite was Guadalc Anal
Good thing or we’d never know it’s AI
Is AI the only way this can be produced?
Altho, "Sea Doctor" for sub captain, seems pretty good for idiot AI!
Treated like it's from soldier or sailor diaries when it isn't. Some person born after WWII writes the script and AI voice reads it.
Why does the AI pronunciation keep going wonky? I love this series but it really struggle with things like island, April, operation... Really bad around the 9 minute mark.
Alway wondered why the Germans and Japanese only used number designations rather than an sctual name.
Because names were given and used to get the ship a recognition, to boost it in reputation, to raise the morale on your side and curb it down on the opponent's side.
Undersea bosts on the contrary, are supposed to be secret, unkown, hard to determine are they in port or on a patrol.
Not the sole reason, but an important one.
It'd be tedious but couldn't you alter the spelling so words are pronounced correctly? ie spell corps, core etc
In the nineteen fifties we thought that PT was for "Plywood Torpedo" boats.
Excellent memoir.
Engaging. Well written.
In this as in many RUclips videos better pronunciation software needs to be developed and used.
Surely you must mean develop-ed and us-ed.
It's incredible the amount of resources, mainly submarines, that the Japanese put into the defense of Attu. Attu is perhaps the most useless place that the Japanese conquered. Of course there was also Kiska.
Good comments
AI was struggling with this one.
That submarine in the picture carried and was capable of launching an aircraft. It's got a hangar and a steam catapult ramp.
What admiral’s memoir is this?
Actually Churchill had already decided on Indian independence at the beginning of the war as FDR made quite an issue of it..
Its so weird that everyone thinks this is AI. Hes been reading books for years.
Great speech cadence to sleep to. Good for listening in bed
Puts me to sleep every night .
I thought A.I. kept learning, this one has through all the WWII series hit long patches of mispronunciation & misreading all abbreviations . Poor production standards!
What about the pt boats???
Why did they not put rifles of some type on PT Boats, I wonder?
They had mounted machine guns. They had M1 Garand and Carbines as personal weapons. What makes you think they didn't have rifles?
What is a “sharp” list?
A tilt to one side on any vessel is a list, a boat is said to be listing with a lean to port or starboard, but not fore and aft, which are described separately as down by the stem, or down by the bow. Your vessel can experience both, listing sharply to port and down by the stern...
Gives Months but not the year.
This is a great story but the AI voice ruins the whole thing .
Its interesting that it isn't even worth it in 2024 to pay a human to chose better options when text - to -speech fails.
You couldn't find a narrator anywhere?
I'm pretty sure there are humans that can read and pronounce the narration. I listened to half of the story, but quit because I found myself anticipating the next reading error rather than the story.
Even if the AI would pronounce the words the same way each time it would improve the listening experience greatly.
The narrator doesn't speak American English, most likely he's his native speech is British English on one of their colonies. We would sound off to their ears. But it's still worth listening to. Fairly good historical perspective from first person journals, much better than tired incomplete 'history ' books in public schools.
Perhaps for visually impaired the narration is welcomed..
AI is kinda pathetic not to be able to recognize the word ADMIRAL or COMMANDER.....especially on a Navy topic. Weak.
The AI is annoying.
Why did the Japanese Navy lose so many subs operationally?
They weren't being used in their best practices. Use subs for shipping stuff, instead of sinking enemy merchant ships, and you'll lose those subs that are acting like merchant ships.
Americans knew where they were , having broken Japanese Ciphers
The United States had not rebuilt Japan to the western standard of living yet so the subs were essentially made of garbage.
"tor-peh-dough"
What crap AI narration
Yo I just gotta say it’s dope, from a white guys perspective (not mayo white, I did hold a hood pass with the rollin 60’s back when….
Anyhow back to my point. This video perfectly personifies much of the thread of thought that runs through the black community. The reactions says it all.
The brothas are an emotional group, I admire it, it keep shit live, but shows that corporate American can’t fool em. Drakes light skinnded, and his religious background already making cat side eye.
But you can really tell that he sucked out so much of the energy of this movement.
When the scene gets someone truly talented they pushed out or killed, then you get these serpents that want to culture vulture. This dude makes Vlad look like Malcolm X lol .
Anyways, this is getting too long. Nothing but respect for y’all. Let’s keep this movement going.
Remember when Tribe, Digable P, KRSOne, and J5 came with that positivity tip?
Now we have Drill rap. Pop Rap. Stripper Rap. It’s all poison pill for your community. I know y’all know that. We should be talking to people like Clive Davis,, David Geffin and others. They turned your own people against yourself., just for money
And a lot of times supply BBC no questions asked
The PT boats of ww2 were the drone equivalent of the Ukraine russkie war there was no answer for them
PT boat strategy is the principle doctrine for the current Iranian Navy using speed boats but with guidance tech where it is, requires smaller craft to achieve the same effect as the Ukrainian reports you referenced. This shows the old adage that the same strategy can't be used twice in the same way.
Worst AI ever. Almost amusing.
Get the damn AI narrator fixed.
The AI narrator is bad at pronunciation...
🙄
Stop touching United States boats.
JHC! AI voiceover is irritating. And stupid. AI is Artificial Idiocy
The title of this video ensured I have no interest in viewing it
Your dismissed
Hilarious English and place name pronunciation here.Shucks,English is a world language.Correct the absurdities contained here, there is no excuse.
Gawd awful!!! For God's sake, spend a damn dollar and hire a live narrator that knows how to pronounce Adm., Cdr., Aleutians, and every third word
I gave you an upvote, but have to agree that whatever is reading the text is f'ed up. I'm also not too happy with just reading a book on youtube, strikes me as almost plagiarism. You're not adding any value to the original work. What was the name of the original author? His name should have been highlighted.
Mispronunciations and confusion is all this offers.
You probably could have gotten a real narrator for free. This AI is crap!
