Easiest like I've ever given! So helpful and I really appreciate that you showed your trial and error! Helps me understand what effect different alterations have
Thank you RUclips suggestions! Found your channel by a suggestion about sewing with a serger. Loving the way you manage to make instructions clear and simple but not at all patronising. Now sergers make sense and I'm binge-watching :)
Oh my goodness, Pippa! Thank you so much for this great suggestion. I'm so glad RUclips suggested that video for you. Have fun watching the videos. I'm happy to have you here.
This was such a super helpful review!! Thank you for sharing the details of your journey with these joggers! I appreciate your frankness about fitting all those areas of our body! This was truly one of the most useful videos I've seen! I love them with your Ringer Tee!
Hi gorgeous Anita. Thank you for taking the time to make this vid....so needed. I've not made a pair of trousers before because of being tall.....and the dreaded crotch curve☹ I actually have the Singer book....I think that it is about time I actually read it 😁 If you can find the time, a tutorial would be appreciated. ♥️🇬🇧
Hi Anita , I use to have all the Singer sewing books too. Seems like fitting is just something that you must continue to try until you get it right. Hats off to you for your achievement!
It is so true that we each need our own unique adjustments to fit. I have gotten to the point that unless I know that something has plenty of ease I will make a test garment first.
Have you made crotch curve alterations that worked for your body? Leave a comment below and share with us what worked for you. 💡Quick Tip: The Thrift Store is a great source for cheap fabric. Use it to play around with adjustments until you find what works for your body. It's time consuming but so worth it once you achieve the fit you desire.
Great video, Anita! I got frustrated sewing pants and gave up - but I like your process of problem solving and I think the last version looks great. Also, this video gives me a good way to explain how pants fit incorrectly when they aren't made for my size or hip width(petite, small). Thanks for making this video.
We have been away caravaning and this is the first video I watched on our return home. I have saved it, just in case I get to sew a pair..thanks- Loved it
I will be drafting my own patterns because I’m a tiny female. For tops, Not one pattern online is perfect for my size, all way too big, even with dart placement. I looked into teen patterns but they’re just a few inches smaller, and much smaller in the hip. So I’m screwed unless I draft my own. I’m confident enough that I can do it after watching many tutorials on it. I love your content btw. For my crotch curve, I used a long price of aluminum foil and folded it multiple times and molded it to my crotch curve. Then used that against my pant patterns and altered the pattern crotch curve with the foil. It worked perfectly. I also add a little to the back of my pants to my preferences. Your pants look great on you!
Awesome that you've learned to draft your own patterns. It's really the best option, in my opinion. I've seen others use the aluminum foil method too. I haven't tried that yet. I'm glad to hear that it really works for you.
I'm struggling with bottoms because I can't get these pattern alterations right... thanks for the intro for this type of alteration! I'm going to try some of them!
Thank you Anita! That demo was so interesting. Love seeing how each adjustment effected the fit. I'm a beginner and haven't braved pants but they are in my plan. Your final pair looks terrific and I love the ponti knits you chose!
You're very welcome. I totally understand. Just get some cheap fabric and play around with the adjustments until you find what works for your body. The Thrift store is a great source for cheap fabric.
Neat! Thanks for those 'fit-tips'; really helpful to see what to look for, and how those fabric types and weights do make a difference too. The white pocket trim and sweater- trim cuffs really make the pants pop. t
I actually have this pattern all cut out from last year, but didn't go through with it because I read about the crotch area after my purchase, and I was like "I'm not ready to deal with that right now". Now that I've seen your video, I think I will give it a try.😊
Hi, Anita-I agree about getting the crotch correct and run into that problem too. I also found a copy of the Singer book on ABE.com and I think there's a couple of more copies but it takes some time to scroll through to locate them.
Nice! I wondered if those of us with a little longer torso or pelvic bone length would need to add some to this pattern. I like the mid-rise, thanks for review,. I’m sure I have this book or similar- I went for 30 years not sewing garments, but I’m a bit of packrat so still have the old books. Thanks again, Anita.
Hi thanks for sharing your video which I found useful as I’m always looking to expand my knowledge on making pants. I too have trouble with pants patterns especially as I have had three caesareans which have resulted in a more rounded lower front. I tried both of the adjustments that you made but the fit still wasn’t right. So i took the pattern back to the original lines and changed the curve shape on the crotch to be mores scooped out. I made no other adjustments and hey presto, the pants sit perfectly flat against my front with no unsightly camel toe. I hope you don’t mind me sharing my experience but it might save some failed attempts and heart ache for fellow sewists💖👍
Thank you. Love this video. Great video production values. It's appreciated. I'm at pair #4 on a self generated pattern and this helps me a lot. Subscribed
Very interesting to learn , crotch alteration can be complex and it makes perfect sense as we are all build differently. I was also interested to learn Anita you had stopped sewing for a while.
Hey Ms. Anita, you know I never miss a video from you not at all(LOL) I have the singer book mines I got off Amazon and it the Hard cover, really enjoyed the video i really need to learn how to do pants because that's something I really want to make, and I really need to learn how.
Hey Angela! Yes, I'm so glad you have the book because it is really a treasure. You can do it, Angela. Use the book and just give it a try. Get some cheap fabric and practice.
Thank you Evelyn! Oh yes, I am definitely already wearing the others around the house. I'll wear them in the colder months too when I take my morning walks.
Anita, they are so cute. I still have the entire set of Singer books, and I also love the fitting books. Good content. I have basically the same issues you have but I also add a little for my front thighs.
Hi Anita, this video is very interesting, I too I'm having trouble fitting pants. I am a beginner, I'll be looking into the book you presented. I'm also trying to focus on your dress form in the background. Like I said I'm a beginner and in need of the neccessary equipment for successful sewing. I'm also looking at sergers. I watched your video on your fabulous sewing room makeover and the baby lock machines you have. Thank you Anita I watch all your videos your so professional, smart and very sophisticated.
Thanks for the video ... I would love to see how to alter ready made (purchased) clothing that do not have a pattern. I have jogger type pants but the front rise is the same as the back rise and very unconfortable.. wonder how this can be adjusted ? (very beginner never did some sewing but would love to start with minder alterations)

I started sewing for myself at age 10 and I am now 72. There is a difference between crotch depth and crotch length. I need a very long back crotch curve and a very short front crotch curve. Hi Anita, Maybe you could try scooping out the crotch a little. That may reduce the need for adding more length. (Me...not a sewing expert but have some of the same issues.) Thanks bunches.

Anita by Design take in a quarter of an inch. Your actually taking away fabric. It doesn’t make sense but it works. Go from the front curve about 2 or 3 inches and take 1/4 inch.
Thanks for sharing this video. It was very helpful. I just ordered the book on Ebay...(I just saw they accepted my offer 😉 of $15.00)....how long did it take you to make all three pairs....days?? Just curious....you do so much for the sewing community....it is truly appreciated!
Hi Lynette! Awesome! Glad you enjoyed the video and was able to purchase the book. I made all three pairs over a two week period, I think. I'm a slow sewist and typically it would take me two days. I cut pattern and make alterations one day and sew the next.
@@AnitabyDesignOh okay....hubby thinks I sew to fast....he's probably right.....lol. He's always telling me to "slow down", so I am working on that part....thanks again
As someone else mentioned, I think the problem was the diagnosis of the issue… I don’t think you needed to lengthen the rise I think you needed more negative space and a full thigh adjustment. It looks like you effectively did the full thigh by extending the crotch point but you need to scoop out 1/4” in the front crotch. I’m not an expert but I do think that would do it.
Fabulous video, Anita! I love how you show your different iterations and versions, I'm not going to be wearing shapewear around the house either hahaha. Do you have any recommendations for preventing the curved seams from twisting? My straight seams tend to lay nicely, but curved seams give me an unintentional bunched look. Thanks for sharing this look!
Thank you Alycia. Hmmm... I know that you can insure that the seams are straight by laying the pattern along the straight grain. I'm not sure what you mean by the curved seams twisting. Are you referring to the crotch curve or any curved seam? If you're getting rippling on your curved seams when working with a knit fabric it's probably because your fabric is stretching as you stitch. If this is your problem, try using a walking foot and/or adjusting the presser foot tension. The tension may be too tight which would cause the fabric to stretch while stitching.
omg I just love to listen to you.you are so peaceful.thank you so much for that.keep up that great work.
Thank you so much! You just made my heart smile.
Cuuute!!! Love the idea of taking a photo of the end of the bolt, thanks again for all you do. I appreciate you 😁
You are so welcome! Yes, having that information from the bolt is so helpful both for info on fabric and in the event I need to purchase more.

Hi Del. I followed the instructions that came with the pattern. Inserted elastic and sewed two rows around.
Here is a suggestion. Take about a quarter of a inch in the front crotch it will get rid of the pulling in the front. Try it. It really works. Take it at the curve. Just baste it first and you will see how it works. 🙏🏻💕
Do you mean add a quarter of an inch. Taking away would shorten the front even more in that area, right?
Anita by Design take in a quarter of an inch. Your actually taking away fabric. It doesn’t make sense but it works. Go from the front curve about 2 or 3 inches and take 1/4 inch.
Excellent. I wish I could have watched you before.
