If you plant the big tree somewhere else it gives a buff to tree growth, so they grow faster. The opposite happens if you cut it down.
You need to build a school to get the tech buff.
A chapel will make the people happier.
I think you changed it already, but if you have the farming policy set to reap first, the farmers will harvest the crop but leave the full baskets in the field until they're done. The flood doesn't take out baskets. It's also more efficient overall.
I still think you don't have enough storage :P

AAAA Storage! I will check the farming setting. Big tree replant, got it!

Hello Jpace! It seems difficult! Exactly what you asked for :P
    1) Have in mind that more new houses > more new babies > more food you need! So dont expand (with new houses) so quickly
    2) Build a reservoir for water, but you still need the bells for the fires that will come
    3) Change all your farms to beans as they give you more output than the others seeds you have for now
    4) About the big tree (you aldready know it, but you have forgot this) check BlackCurtainsFall comment :P lol
    Thanks for playing this

Early game floods are the worst!! Though this one had especially bad timing. When they're in March or August, you can usually recover that same year. This one will probably be felt for the next few years.

It's funny watching this because I want to couch quarterback and tell you everything you did wrong. LOL. That said, it's obvious you have played the game quite a bit, but you started thinking "end game" and forgot the early struggle where success is to slow it down a bit. The beginning of the game is all about balance. Funny enough, I enjoy the struggle so much that I tend to start over repeatedly and have actually never made it to end game because I want a perfect start.
For comments: everything BlackCurainsFall said. Also you need the Research Center. It will produce tech much faster even if you don't have paper yet. School will only increase techpoints once you have one built and students in them.
My question to you or viewers: Which is the right answer for the big bear. I tend to try to "calm it" because if you attempt to capture it you loose people. What are the pros/cons?

Ha , it has been almost 9 months or so since i started a new settlement, so yes i forgot the early days. (Not sure if you saw my last settlement). I plan to make some adjustments in EP 4. :) I have always just "eliminated" the bears that i see on the map.

@@JpaceBuilds Thanks - Forgot to add. The floating boxes that you need the fishing net for. First, I think they nerfed them a bit so they aren't quite the same big bonus you used to get. Now they mostly give you so-so components with occasional extra nice stuff that is worth selling. Second, they always come with a penalty of 6-mnths chance of accidental death when fishing. I don't use the fishing docks, so I don't care about that. But if you have 8 people on 2 docks that's going to increase your chances for accidental death.

If u capture the big bear you lose a few people(3 I think) and get a lot of fat.
