Thank you! And yeah, it surprised me because my 14" M1 Pro didnt have any audible fan noise while editing. I hate editing with fan noise i feel like it gives me tinnitus lmao
Hello and thanks for the content. I went from a 14" M3 Pro 12/18/18 to the 16" M4 Pro 14/20/24 primarily because in my set up the larger screen is better. It smokes the M3 Pro in every way. I did upgrade to the 1 TB SSD because not only did I want a little head room, the read/write is faster and I figured that would benefit swap and file transfer since the write is over 6500 mb/s. I'm 100% with you. Best computer I've ever owned. Cheers!
Screen size. Fan noise. Speakers. Battery life. There are many compelling reasons why the 14.2" MacBook Pro should be turned into a 15.0" size the next time Apple does a redesign (presumably, 2026).
After testin the 14" M4 Pro with 24Gb RAM and TB SSD, I found the screen to be too small, and the trackpad wasn't as large as I wanted it to be. Also. I opened up 20 tabs on my browser and played a couple RUclips vids and my memory pressure shot up to 18+GB, on a 24GB machine....on day 1. What that going to mean 4 years from now? I decided to upgrade to the 16" with 48GB RAM, 2TB SSD and the nano screen. I'll get better speakers, better hardware, a better screen, better trackpad, and a manageable payment plan because holy fuck was that upgrade expensive. Apple, 1TB of SSD should be the base model for the 16" MBP. Its 2024!
Great review. I went for the same model, but with 48GB/512GB option. I am going from a 2016 15" MBP with 256GB and mainly run my LR library externally and never ran into space issues internally. Here's to 7 years with the new machine!
my 16" M1 Pro still amazing and no need to upgrade for another few years. I don't do video or music work but still am a power user with driving 4 monitors and mostly for work for software engineering. Sometimes I do wish I had more RAM than 16GB but still works just fine. In a few years will upgrade to the 24GB or possibly 48GB but this model still has the 1600 nit brightness for HDR and looks gorgeous, amazing speakers, and has thunder bolt 4 2 on left and 1 on right and has SD card reader still. So compared to the new 16" it isn't all that different only if you need that performance for video or music work that can save you time as time is money.
Great video. Also I thought the same on the Nano Texture, I can confirm it does have value. The picture clarity is still there but if you move your MacBook even just around the house could be distracting.
I have the M1 14”. It works great and I love it. However I'm getting older and with that comes poor vision. I need the 16”. I work in tech and deal with spreadsheets. I hope to keep the M4 for five years max
Thanks for reinforcing my decision lol. I too went from a 14" M1 Pro MBP to the 16" M4 Max MBP. I've historically had 15" laptops so the extra size doesn't bother me, and the 14" display always felt kinda cramped. The cooling system was my other concern and sure enough I was right. 14" has to work way harder to keep these new chips cool. Absolutely loving the new one!
I sold my Intel 2019 16” MBP in prep for the M4 Pro 14/20 48GB 1TB SSD but I’ve been struggling to decide if I want to move to a 14”. Been to the Apple Store 2x and Best Buy. I love the screen size on the 16” but it’s quite large. Your video has given me pause for thought.
I agree. My MacBook Pro M4 Pro 16 Inch is one of the best purchases I made lately. Had a 14 Inch MacBook Pro and when I do the comparison, the 16 Inch is far more capable.Thanx for the Video by the way!
Exactly my thoughts. Going with 16 inch with m4 pro and 48gb coz of larger chassis with medium processor. More so coz 512gb is readily available and 1tb customized will take weeks. Using 48gb will reduce io on ssd, and anyways have to use external ssd.
How do you get such temperatures? I have the 16'' macbook pro with m4 pro chip, and the cpu averages 100 degree celsius when running the same cinebench benchmark.
Just downloaded Better Display. I can now use the normal keyboard shortcuts to adjust the brightness on my external display when my MacBook is docked in clamshell mode. Huge W!
Абсолютно согласен с автором. Самый правильный выбор в линейке m4 - 16 дюймов и Pro чип. Удивляет огромное количество людей, которые купили 14" max. Это сумасшествие)
Hmm, I am thinking of upgrading 14" M1 Pro (10 / 16 / 32 GB / 4 TB) for a 14" M4 Pro (14 / 20 / 48 / 4 TB) mainly to get feet wet with LLMs (although 48 GB is just not really enough for much anyway) and be able to game on it (when Cyberpunk for macOS comes out). I also want to get more headroom in terms of music production, but so far I do not load my MBP fully at all… I know that I am absolutely happy with 14" size however (work ones in a while on a 16" M1 Max model of a friend of my)… For sure 16" M4 Pro is the probably the best for music production… but I am using external display as a second / main screen like 90% of the time anyway… Decisions:)
I will never get why Apple MacBooks 16" don’t have a numpad. A lot of programs would benefit a lot. And it also time for a tochscreen and pencil support.
It's physics, man. Same chip putting out the same thermals in a smaller chassis, will need more cooling. I always go with 16", both because I need the larger screen for graphic design, and for the better cooling.
I don’t get your issue here about the your 14”. You placed the devices on high power mode-which is purposely meant to run the fans at maximum for full performance-and you’re complaining about the funs running louder? Put it in auto mode if that concerns you.
To be completely honest, I didnt notice any difference with high power vs auto lol. The only reason I keep it at high power is because, why not. But second of all, both machines were using high power mode. Either way, high power on vs off - the 14" is still a louder system. Cant fool physics.
I have 512GB internal - and 4TB external. Since most of my work is done via external drive, I didnt feel the need to upgrade storage. RAM is nice, tho. 24GB should be enough for many people - but once you add VFX, motion, Blender, etc the 48gb model comes in handy.
I was eager to grab a current-gen machine and would have picked one up if they offered 64GB in the M4 Pro MBP form factor. Ended up grabbing an M3 Max open box for an extreme discount with much more RAM. The M4 Pro looks great though - maybe next time Apple!
100%. Apple is being Apple for not offering MBP with M4 Pro chip and 64 GB of RAM. The only good reason why they did not is probably that config would suck at LLMs anyway and for the rest of the tasks all things equal 64 GB vs 48 GB would make very small difference.
Thanks for the nice video! This one is actually the one I bought a few days ago. One question though, can I ask you which app do you use for measuring the temperature and the fans? Thank you!
@ ok, when you edit that text, in adobe software, it also shows what’s the name of the typeface. can you just confirm what it is? I am kind of obsessed with this font.
the binned version might be better than the unbinned version (on the 14") because its less intensive. but IF you can, definitely get the 16" as long as you dont mind the extra size.
I think the Air will be quite good for most people, depending on what tasks youre doing. if youre heavy into video editing - maybe the pro will be better. But then again, 4 years ago, my main computer for youtube was the m1 air and it did a really great job. But now i've started incorporating motion and VFX and im not sure if the air can handle it all that well.
@@MarksTech Thanks so much , it will be mostly for web dev but not IOS , and surfing on the internet. I think that Air is more than enought for this and can handle easily.Your opinion?
Please someone tell me why all hardware reviewers keep saying they sent a product back. I don’t know of anyone that would just accept an opened used laptop because a person just doesn’t feel like it. Especially not apple UK.
exactly for the reason I mentioned. If people are buying expensive products, they want to like it. If they dont, they return it. I didnt really enjoy the loud fans on the 14" because they are sometimes audible during my recordings, and I cant have fan noise while im recording. the 16" doesnt have that problem, and oddly enough, neither does my m1 pro 14"
When I would agree about games (way way less good native games than on Windows), speaking of apps - macOS is way in front in terms of high quality apps and utilities that are pleasure to work with, run and look great.
HEY! i just got the Asus Strix 18, 240hz, 4090. the speakers are pretty damn good! not gonna lie. BUT, still a *little* behind the macbook pro. video coming soon!
Unfortunately the 16” is about 10 degrees hotter in average compared to the same model with M2 Chip. I did intensive testing cause I noticed the fans coming on when I started to install the apps on my new M4 Max. That’s a no-go for such an expensive machine. Maybe there is a difference to the pro since it has less Cores. But the M4 Max is definitely kicking in much earlier (after 30 seconds compared after 2:30 min on the M2 Max). So I returned the M4 and kept my M2…
The max chip inside a laptop isnt the best for fan noise and throttling. I will always get the Pro chip in laptops, and the Max for desktop. That being said, damn, i wish the mac mini had a max version :(
I noticed the same thing. The noise from the 16 inch is significantly lower. Good review.
Thank you! And yeah, it surprised me because my 14" M1 Pro didnt have any audible fan noise while editing. I hate editing with fan noise i feel like it gives me tinnitus lmao

easily!
It’s so damn heavy and thick though. I bought one and I think I’m going to return it and wait for the 15” MacBook Air m4 and Max out the memory
