I did not see your survey. If i had, Im not sure whether i would have picked the runabout or the whitehall rowboat. Both make me drool. Such pretty boats. Thanks for making these videos and sharing them with us!
I’m so excited about this project. I’ve never commented before, but I think your show it’s actually spectacular and you’re great craftsman and I’ve learned a lot.
Awesome! And whatever you want to build, Bob, just bring it on. I love to watch all the care and love you put into your projects. 😊 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Great projects all around! Looking forward to all 3 of them. Why not, as part of the Lyman restoration, convert it to electric!? Checking off, almost, all of the survey items. Anne's approval needed of course .
I grew up in Sandusky and have always enjoyed seeing the Lymans out on Sandusky Bay. I've always dreamed of one day owning a Lyman, so I look forward to seeing your restoration project.
I am so excited Bob! And thanks Anne for the support to my idea. I grew up in Sandusky, OH piloting a 19 ft Lyman runabout around Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. I have such fond memories of that boat, and I cannot wait to see what you and Anne do with this project. I also love the kayak idea, so looking forward to that too. If you need any Lyman inspiration, I’d encourage you to visit the Maritime Museum of Sandusky where they have some fine examples and they are also restoring Gull, a 1939 24 ft Lyman custom. They have a RUclips channel as well. Check it out!
Whoo Hoo! I am looking forward to the Kayak builds as I am looking to build one this coming winter. I am very close to finishing my studio/shop that I have been doing solo for the last four months and this will be a great inspiration .
This looks to be a great season coming up 😍 I'm pretty psyched about your choices, I think those will be gorgeous once done. Still want to see that runabout drawing turned into a real boat because the design just looks so elegant. Maybe sometime soon 🙂
You’ve got my attention.. At age 68 I took on my first ever wooden boat project, three years ago, that would fill a void of my Grandfather’s long gone wooden Cadillac boat of the sixties. It just happened to be a 1955 Lyman center steer runabout. The boat has brought back many great memories and puts a smile on everyone’s face as I cruise by the camps on our small upstate NY lake.
Lovely looking rowing boat and an interesting restoration project. The lake boat wouldn't look out of place on Lake Windermere.......... spoiled for choice.
I was up at South Haven, MI. a few weeks ago at the MI Maritime Museum. They have a couple of BEAUTIFUL small restored Lymans. Looking forward to your's and Anne's.
Looking forward to all of it. You did kind of sell me on the electric launch though. The extra context made a difference. Hope you get to everything on your list someday.
I rehabbed a 1965 18’ Lyman outboard. Got it back in the water this spring. The family loves it. It gets a lot of attention at the boat ramp. You’ll have a great time.
Awesome Bob! So I’ll go on waiting for your next creations, in the meantime I continue building my second boat, also a 21 feet runabout based on the Aquarama design.😊
Interested in all of the builds, but especially the stitch and glue kayak. Have been watching Garret build a stitch and glue dingy on Salt & Tar boat build videos.
The Lyman will be an interesting project. I'll be following closely as i have a 1959 Dunphy runabout sitting under a tarp in a corner of my yard. It was pretty rough when given to me, there is every chance to Holsclaw trailer it lives on has more life left than the boat!
A particularly interesting discussion for me. I have 2 CLC kayaks, a 17' Chesapeake and 17' Cape Charles (discontinued). I had an old plastic 13' sit inside kayak I never used after finishing the wood kayaks, so I converted it to electric using a trolling motor, lifepo battery, and PWM for better throttle control and efficiency using a bicycle down tube shifter as a throttle lever and a control stick between my legs pulling a cable through a set of pulleys to lift the motor out of the water. Anyway, it was as much an exercise in doing something different (I haven't seen any other sit inside E-kayaks, probably because packaging can be difficult), but it turned out to be more fun than I expected and the quiet propulsion is a nice experience. Now I'm looking at my Cape Charles and thinking of doing something similar with that as packaging would be much easier, I wouldn't have to build an internal aluminum frame, and the length and lighter weight (easily 10 lbs lighter than the plastic kayak even before the conversion) would have it go faster and it's a better ride and to paddle. The Lyman sounds like a great choice. I've always loved wood speed boats.
Whilst an electric powered lake boat would be a serene experience what about a steam powered one , very classy ! And which one would be valuable after ten years ? Whatever , I am sure you can build it pretty !
@@TheArtofBoatBuilding maybe turn some nice handles for chisels or slicks? Or since you’re a master at casting, how about some brass plumb bobs? A nice wood level or mallet with brass inserts would be nice.
I know this is a bit off topic [it's about the Haven], but I watched your Haven build, beginning to end four times. I've recently started watching Chuck Jenkins build a Somes Sound. I only noticed that boat because of the lap-strake hull. Could the Haven 12 ½ be built with that type hull?
Yes, the Haven 12 1/2 could be built with lapstrake construction. It should be done in a traditional manner. The Somes Sound 12 1/2 is a glued plywood construction. The Somes Sound 12 1/2 is a slightly easier boat to build. Thanks for watching. Bob
Why not double it up and make the Lyman electric? First off I have seen a number of really old electric outboards on the Swedish Sea Historical Museum, for example a New York based Frank S. Allen from 1895. YT won’t allow me to link unfortunately. But otherwise I’ve seen people exchange the engine in old outboards from 50s and 60s withings electric motors.
Kayaks AND a Lyman restore. This is gonna be AWESOME!

It’s on my mind for sure! Cost is a factor, but silence while filming would be amaaaaazing.
😊
I was thinking the same thing
Good choices Bob. These should be very interesting projects. Also looking forward to some Skylark sailing content. So many boats, so little time.
Hi Bob
Been following you for years. Nice choice(s). Looking forward to it!
Hey man! My comment made the video… very cool. Super excited about this next build!! Awesome awesome
I live and grew up about 10 minutes south of Lyman harbor and the factory in Sandusky
This is gonna be great!
Really excited about the Lyman!
Pretty exciting news! Really surprised me. All fantastic projects and interesting ideas. I'll be glued to the channel for sure.
Really looking forward to watch the new projects thank you for doing the videos
Very excited to watch the restoration series!
That is two great projects to look forward too.
That sounds like a great season! I can hardly wait!
I always enjoy your channel. Looking forward to whatever boats comes next.

You got me at Lyman!
😉
Oh my how I was eagerly awaiting for the results. I think your selections are wonderful, and the bonus collaboration with Anne is the cherry on top.
😊
Very much looking forward to both of the kayaks & watching the restoration. Both great ideas!
Wonderful projects coming up. Awaiting.🙂🙂
Exciting News Bob! I look forward to watching both projects unfold on your channel! Thanks for sharing the plane for E4.
My Pleasure!
Thanks for watching
Love your channel. I have been thinking about building a wood duck, after I finish my SCAMP. Looking forward to watching your build.

My parents owned a 20ft Lyman inboard with a 100 hp greymarine quite the rocket for its day.
nice!
Great projects, Bob. I am looking forward to all of it.
Those will all be great projects Bob. Anxious to see them.
Thanks Kev!
This is going to be great looking forward to the upcoming builds

Great to see you back! I would have voted for a restoration followed by building a Newfoundland Banks Dory.
Delightful! I love all of this.

I love to see you make classic hand tools. I hope you get to toss some of that in as well...oh yeah...and bronze casting too.
I'll try and squeeze one in!
Great choice opportunities come upp all time if the time come right greats from Sweden ❤
Bob, you have a balanced out a great season of boat building projects!
Nice projects!, Will be good to watch. Maybe you can combine the restauration with eletrifying.
Possibly!
Great to see you back on RUclips. The CLC projects sound interesting.
Cool let's do it! .....

What a great video Sir, pretty sure we will all be watching you build the kayaks and doing the restoration
Thanks 👍
Good choice.
What a great solution for what to do next. I really look forward to it.
Looking forward to the redo of the runabout
Me Too!
nice and nice to listen to you - so much knowledge
Glad you enjoyed it Thanks for watching!
Boat restoration plz.
On it!
Wood crackerbox would be awesome

My family has a 1950s Dunphy as well. 16 foot, molded mahogany plywood, designed for outboard and rowing. It's a great boat.
I hope you can do a Joe Greenley designed Redfish kayak sometime soon.

I wish I had the time, resources, and space to build a classic Cris Craft style wooden Runabout!
I think it would great if you built a venetian gondola

Bob: Hey everybody, what do you want me to build?
Everybody: A classic runabout!
Bob: Cool I'll build kayaks. 👍
The runabout is coming! Stay tuned and you'll see the madness in my method.
Thanks for watching,
Bob
I think you should do a 1930 1940 Chris craft wooden boat type
Albury Skiff!
I went to the classic runabout.
Probably a Brig or Man-o-war right?
Can you throw in some classic tool making in between?
I think I could fit some in. Any suggestions?

Could convert Lyman to electric and cover another base.🙂
Maybe.
Do a manned model boat
How about a toofer lyman with electric outboard

By "traditional", you mean actual lumber not plywood?

It really depends on funding. I have a Mercury outboard that needs a little work. I would go electric, but we'll see how that goes. -Anne
You could of course put an electric outboard on the back of the Lyman............
Oops, sorry, the drawings are in one of the Good Boats series.
🎉🎉🎉
How about an electric runabout
Indeed!
