This video could not have come at a better time for me. I'm a KH fan who just got into the DMC series a couple of weeks ago and I'm currently playing DMC3
You know it’s good when it penetrates two series not usually use to it. Both official with 16 and unofficial with KH mods. I’ll be sure to play Xion and YX once I get my mod finalized. Which shouldn’t take too long. Most of what I want to replace is already done. This will also won’t be a full music overhaul. Since most people skip cutscenes. Especially with the one I originally attended it with.
Man, it'd be nice to have KH1 Critical Mix working for the Steam Version. KH2 Final Mix Double Plus works for Steam and is a great minor change to some of 2's combat.
i started working on one but never finished it. I did get animation cancelling working but it required double-inputs and i couldn't find a way to fix it. DDD actually has huge modding potential because they added a new action queue system that makes it easy to just insert any upcoming action so you could do like real-time combo randomizer
Great stuff and showcase for the modsI am a vanilla player (up to going shizo enough to finding small juggle combos in kh1) but still love seeing people pushing this series to limitsCant wait for openKH to be finished one day because it would be a blast to port other games on kh2 engine.

Yeah, your hitstop mod actually gives the perfect amount when pairing it with Project XIV. Xion's attacks are incredibly fast, so the impacts on the hits give a great feel 👌

If KH had online multiplayer it would probably make it to esports level. All you need is a break-away mechanic to escape from combos(But attach it to MP so if you run out you're screwed) and you have a solid KH multiplayer mode either 1v1 or 2v2
The only problem I see with this is there needs to also have improved Ai responses that can uniquely challenge this freedom of control that is made to be like DMC. Because anyone who plays DMC knows Dante is capable of alot but there are certain monsters that are designed to put you on your ass if you don't act correctly. Otherwise it's a boring power fantasy. What's the point of a style meter if you're only mashing X and there's no decisions being made that judge your performance? It's fake style. Also the environments arent spacious like DMC tends to be so its hard to see the action. It's not designed for it.
Definitely in a literal sense it's not going to be perfectly replicating all the elements of DMC simply because of the amount of modification from the foundation KHs design, however in some of the mods they do alter the overall combat flow. For example in NMC rewards magic depending on how you combo with different elements. Same thing with project 14 how unique weapon techniques deplete focus but refill part of MP, and vice versa with using magic ends up refilling focus. The moddrs also take that into account by altering the enemy aggression which is present in mods like critical mix,FFVII, NMC, etc. For KH3 you can also install the style meter that rewards you money that grade you on how you play. Not saying all these methods are perfect, but I respect that the moders Make efforts to reward how you play which I imagine is not easy to develop. Also the room's not being spacious? I heavily disagree as you can just look at the map design for KH2 where the maps are literally just flat arenas because it's built around the fast-paced combat same with KH3 which is a more chaotic game where enemies fly at you if you are not careful and the arenas are even bigger in that game. Me personally what I value in these mods is the overall increase of enemy interactivity within the utility of all these movesets that always gives me different ways of expression and ideas. That incentivizes me to be creative which is at its core just like DNC
Yea like specifically DMC4 lmao. Very good players make styling look super easy then you actually play yourself and it feels like dang near every enemy type is design to specifically stop you from getting too crazy 😂
don't know about some of the mods, but Aqua mod at the very least is more than just a combat overhaul it's a full game overhaul including fully custom boss fights, and new AI for almost everything. I highly reccomend checking out some of the dev videos on it
Any word on Better Battle System getting updated for the Steam release? I really want to do a full series run again in chronological order but I was waiting until Birth By Sleep mods get patched.

@@TheAnimatedGamer what am I downplaying? There's nothing "contrarian" about it. The game still mostly plays itself. Lock-on is too permanent and limiting and there's too much homing on too many attacks, making the game look and feel like it plays itself. None of the core problems with kh2 are changed. Limits and magic are the same deal with homing. Taking off auto target magic can help a bit maybe. Limits still have gigantic windows for their followup parts and are mashed out with zero thought. As it stands, the mod has nothing interesting to keep replaying or sink time into learning or furthering your skill level. There's no mechanic juggling (ie nero gun charge), no timing based mechanics (ie judgement cut, maxceed) and most of all no varied routing and despite opening up cancel options it still feels stiff and samey. Just because it has a fresh coat of paint doesn't mean it feels that way. This could be fixed by adding varied basic attacks based on directional inputs and delay timings in strings. If you combined this with adding more attacks to the extremely babymode alternate pathing the 2 guard button launchers give, this would already dramatically increase the possibilities.
@Heir-uz2tj at that point it sounds KH just isn't for you because the game challenges all those options on the highest difficulty. The mods are obviously not going to straight up be literally DMC but take aspects of it in KH's DNA which is the point
