I know this may be impossible because of the decisions the developers have made but for the Switch 2, my hope is Nintendo can give us a Tears of The Kingdom deluxe edition with the Master Mode, and an additional new DLC story to explore more of Ancient Hyrule with a playable Princess Zelda.
The PS2 sold 155M units in a 13 year span...The Switch sold 100m units in a 4 year span which makes it the best selling console ever, not even the PS2 sold 100M units in a 5 year span..
@@gimphandjeffwell somehow people tie their identity to their favorite plastic box for some reason so not being the best selling console of all time seems to have a major effect on their mental well being.
Ps2 sold well because it is the cheapest Dvd player made. It's not sold well as Game console. Meanwhile switch, Console to Software ratio is insane having a Billion Software sales.
It's amazing how this fact has been lost to time. PS2 didn't start gaining software steam until around the time stuff like Gran Turismo 3 and Twisted Metal Black started hitting. Launch was pretty tepid when you look back, Tekken Tag Tournament being the noteworthy exception. Combine that with some ho-hum ports from the Dreamcast and some half-baked releases, you begin to realize that water in this well wasn't as refreshing as once originally thought. It also doesn't help how Sony had a cult of personality around them, whose hold didn't break until the PS3 crashed into the proverbial iceberg st the start. And I'm not saying their 155+ isn't deserved, but those first few million from 2000-2001 definitely came from being a cheap DVD player.
Correct... I agree... that's what a lot of the Nintendo haters slept on is that basically the Wii U and 3ds was pretty much a combined user base. Nintendo knew this somehow and made the 3ds and wii u compatible in some ways or cross-platform, cross-progression if you will, including the 3ds being used a controller in smash bros on wii u
It is also important to consider that the sales doesn't seem to include Digital sales; which means the sales for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Super Mario RPG, and many more all could be much higher than what was reported.
@@JoseTabuu Tears of the Kingdom's sales report is still heavily lowballed. They mentioned exceeding 1.8 billion US dollars in profit. The Switch can't surpass sales of PS2 in 2024 (and particularly if Switch 2 releases this year as every piece of data suggests). To reach the PS2 on 2024, the Switch would need to sell around 15 millions in the fiscal year 24-25 (and that is the same estimate as the current fiscal year 23-24), which is unrealistic considering the year on year diminishing sales. It is more realistic to expect Switch to sell around 10 millions units this coming FY 24-25, reaching around 151 millions by end of march 2025, and then reaching/surpasing Ps2 sales on the fiscal year 25/26.
@@tony_0088 💯 It depends on how long they manufacture the current Switch when the Switch 2 releases. It will no doubt still sell to those who wait at the end of a generation to grab a console when the library is vast.

What people don't understand is that zelda usually doesn't have legs, similar to Metroid (still more legs than Metroid but you get my point, it's not 2D mario legs) BotW is more or less an exception because it is THE single player game to get if you buy a switch and MK8D is THE multiplayer game to get. I mean, after 6 years, BotW sold last year 1,8 million copies. I don't see TotK will sell this in 2024 after IR release this year. Many factors come in too, like the "switch effect" and the whole word of mouth with this game. That's not with TotK. The initial sales were INSANE and well earned tho.

One of the biggest reason for success you actually didn’t mention is 3rd party support. The Eshop being almost like Steam is a game changer for them. That and also merging various online profiles like Nintendo profiles etc being under one rather than facing a DS account etc. Also expansion of offshoot games like Mobile games etc increased their IPs value whether or not they got a whole lot in return.
JRPGs in general need to get down to serious story driven small party turn based formats. Basically the PS1 era of Grandia, Suikoden, BOF3 and 4, LoD, all of those. Make more games like that and stop with the irritating modern JRPG shiz with overly pastel anime shovelware
