- Like & Subscribe! From the ABC network 25th Anniversary show comes the most amazing line-up of stars you'll ever see! Kicked off by Toni Tennille. Is that Billie Hayes with Chuck Connors? One of John Wayne's last appearances in public before his death and he attempts to sing.
I was just watching the CBS one. It's very CBS. And this was, well, very ABC.
Oh the memories of growing up in the late 70s and early 80s! Special Times!!!!
Networks wont do stuff like this nowadays. So kool to remember
wow! this was a great time in TV. I loved all these actors back when I was a kiddie! Thanks for posting!
"Gonna Fly Now," the theme song for ROCKY. ROCKY had such a cultural impact on this Nation. Incredible. Did anyone know that Henry Winkler (seen in this video) saved ROCKY from being a made-fot-tv movie. Stallone had sold the script to ABC and asked Henry Winkler to get it back from them to him because Winkler had pull with ABC through HAPPY DAYS. He got the script back into Stallone's hands so he can make it into the movie it was. The rest, as they say, is history. If it wasn't for Winkler, they wouldn't have been singing that song, lol!
Thanks For Posting. It Brings Back Great Memories When The Big 3 ABC-TV And Their Rivals Were At The Height Of There Nielsen Ratings Monopoly Before Cable TV The Internet And Home Video Came Along Do You Agree?
Wow, that was super cheesy. . .but still so much fun!
I'm from Brazil My Generation grew up watching The American Big Starts with yours wonderfully shows. Thank You Share Wonderful Memories
I'm surprised Richard Dawson and Monty Hall weren't there.
Fascinating. Here in Brazil, my generation grew up watching actors like Chuck Connors, Cheryl Ladd, Barbara Eden shows as Roots, Charlie's Angels...I love american tv showbiz.
That was legendary
Late '70's was also a special time of my youth as a pre-teen.
No one cares.
Tennille did a great job getting hundreds of people up on the stage in seemingly no particular order in a few minutes with her energy and enthusiasm. I'm going to have to figure out what some of those people had to do with ABC, but back in the day, nearly everyone in Hollywood appeared on something for each of the three networks, even if it was as a guest, who would be introduced as having a show "on another network". It's a shame that ABC has not put out a video with the whole show. Love this.
Most of the people on the stage had been on a tv series on ABC at some point within the last 25 years.
I know so many on here see this as korny, stupid etc., but some of us would soon turn 18 in the early 80s graduate high school and become adults somewhere in Panama or Grenada and did not come home to re watch these great memories. So many of us grew up with all these fine people every night for over 15 years 7 days a week 360 and remember the good times of Scooby, Happy days and so many more. They were like family to a lot of people. Oh well we cant go back but we can remember how life was so much more...........fill in the blank
I love the 70s cheese! People just did fun shit ! It’s so Uber PC now which takes the fun out of anything ! Haha this is gloriously cheesey!!!! How does Charo still look the same ?
Hey, John Wayne did record an album where he sang/talked, called "America, Why I Love Her." I wish I still had it. Must be worth a fortune now.
To the Rocky theme tune 😆
Wow!!! Great memories. I wish there was a time machine for real.
That probably couldn't be accomplished now. Maybe during the Academy Awards they could ask all the stars attending to crowd on stage together, but I'm unsure how many stars would do it. Also, with the punching that goes on during the Academy Awards, I wonder if they'll be fights on stage.
Wow, I am glad that they did this.. Considering that most of the stars have past on by now.. To see them all on the same stage is amazing and wonderful.. Especially for today.. Something that will be forever even though some are no longer with us..
Great celebration
Here for the Fonz👍👍
Thank you, so much for sharing this celebration!!

Cette vidéo est un régal pour les yeux et les oreilles. 👏
Met Toni Tennille in person a couple of years
What was she like?
No Silvester stalone ! lol John wayne singing as well amazing.
Toni Tennille was chose to lead this song...She is TRULY one of the BEST Singers in the world....
Not so sure about that.
She is a great singer.
Yes..That is Ms.Billie Hayes with Chuck Connors..Bill(Ingram).
would love to see the whole show
I love this song
Great to see Debra Clinger and Louise Duart, in the women's choir. They were Superchick and Nashville, on The Krofft Supershow. The best part, was seeing the great John Wayne, enjoying himself.
Drunk off his ass.
@@DDumbrille Phoo on you.
All of that talent on stage! It's sad this could not happen today. Today's spoiled celebrities will want to get paid a lot of $$$$$!
So true. If it were to happen today, the “celebrities” would act too cool for their own good and they would have been lip syncing to some crappy technopop or hip hop drivel.
@@ddt99 👌
They couldn’t fill up an elevator with today’s talent!
The great celebrities including Henry Winkler, Tom Bosley, Charo, Hal Linden, Chuck Connors, Ted Lange, Gabe Kaplan, Bruce Jenner, Paul Lynde, Jack Klugman, Redd Foxx, Howard Cosell, Alan King, Dick Clark, Adam Rich, and many others were in this ABC 25th Anniversary celebration.
I also saw Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, David Doyle, Cheryl Ladd, Hal Linden, Max Gail, Susan Richardson, Jack Soo before his untimely death a year and a half later.
I recognized so-ooo many faces I couldn't count them all! That was fun to watch :)
Who would have ever thought Bruce Jenner would become Caitlin?
Anyone who heard the rumors decades and decades ago.
Wow 🎉
There's the cast of The Love Boat w/ Fred Grandy and Bernie Kopell, the cast of Barney Miller (shortly before Jack Soo died a year and half later), Gabe Kaplan of WBK, Paul Lynde, Adam Rich, Dick Clark.
Even though this paled in comparison to CBS's anniversaries, ABC had that whole studio and set like one big bisco ball room and had quite a catchy tune here.
Was Richard Dawson there,too?
I Love You, Lady Toni Tennille
Is There A Group Photograph Of This Special With There Names?
somebody needs to find all 4 parts of that 25th anniversary special
I recognize so many faces in one place.
Mr.Ingram I Forgot This 4 Hour Special Was Broadcast On February 5th 1978.
Mr.Ingram Is There A 1978 Group Photo Of Some 250 ABC-TV Stars Past And Present At That Time?
Huh. And I always thought there would be a singularity if Tom Bosley ever stood next to David Doyle.
Rifleman Chuck Connors, with Witchiepoo Billy Hayes.
holy crap, thats the biggest festival of cheesiness ive ever seen..
One of John Wayne's last tv apperances
Not quite, that was the oscars in 1979, 6 weeks before he died...
Just come across this now so are replying years down the line. Anyhow, it was good to see The Duke enjoying himself & for once not on a western soundstage tho I loved him in The Searchers!
Boy do i miss that world
Why do I keep watching this lol
why are they singing the Rocky song?
Who is the little kid that Tom Bosley lifts up?
Adam Rich from 8 is Enough
Everybody's up on the stage.
One dude left in the audience, and a few busboys standing around.
Thank God it didn't.
WoW BRAVA bravo
Wouldn’t be surprised if Bill Conti himself was musical director that night.
I can top this!
Is that Bosley (David Doyle) and Tom Bosley together?? Never have Gabe Kaplan, John Wayne and Howard Cosell been in a frame together. Aaah, Marcia Strassman, Pamela Sue Martin, Leslie Uggams and Cheryl Ladd.
We will never see this kind of true harmony among stars young and old, people just respected people back then.
I know there were lots of problems in the ‘70s, but damn people seemed happier back then.
These are your perceptions. Nothing has changed except now you are old.
@gerry .. u think I didn’t live and see people interact. .. u think we saw people gang up on people 10 on 1 .. u think people just video a person beating up a woman. .. u think we had this mental dis order Of men thinking they can be woman, just by putting on lip stick. , u think we had people believing men can have babies. .. wake the fuck up. I know what I saw growing up. It was not this insanity. .. and if u don’t want to believe me. Then keep sleeping.
Bunch of A-list stars thinking, why the FUCK am I standing next to Jack Soo?
Leslie Uggams and Lola Falana on the same stage!
Nashville and Superchick, from the Krofft Supershow were the last ladies introduced.
I think Yankee Radio play by play guy John Sterling is seen here too
Seeing John Wayne in his last days brought a tear to my eye. John Wayne we need you now more than ever.
It's better that he's dead. He was no leader, just a guy that was in a few watchable films.
And then the whole thing was hit by a giant wave, flipped over and capsized.
This is right before the tidal wave comes and turns the set upside down, right???
But there has to be a morning after.
So chessy...lol
Rocky was definitely an influence.
At what point does the stage collapse?
We Love and Miss You Robin Williams and Tom Bosley.
Most of these comments are sweet and wistful which is ok but, is no one here for the irony? Is no one here for the in your face douchebaggery? The horrible rewrite of the Rocky Theme? The ridiculous 80’s hair? The corporate appropriation? For Gods sake ... PAUL LIND!!! I laughed my ass off.
Barbara Eden, I just love her. She'll always be Jeannie to me & to see the Bruce Jenner of old....OMG who would have guessed what would happen with him. A lot of great faces we'll never see the likes of again.
Oh Dear Lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope the guy who wrote Rocky got something for this.
I bet he did.
ABC is just not the same without David Doyle.
"Gonna Fly Now", the theme from Rocky.
JimboUSofA yasouki nippon ichi
Jaw-dropping, cringe-inducing, awful. Fascinating.
I couldn't agree more
R.I.P John Wayne
floatin free and easy...
As I watch this, we lost Adam Rich two months ago.
So many are gone now.
Is this from 1978?
Yes, 1978.
that was really strange
A bit like new years eve where eveybody fakes joviality...
2:45
I Will Always Love You, Little Lady Barbara Jean Eden
4:10 wow, "The Duke"
How in the hell did I get here?
Friends that was before Shonda took over the network.
John Wayne Passed Away in 1979
Jack Soo Passed away in 1979
No, it wont. Unfortunately, the entertainment business devolved to the lowest common denominator. Red Skelton was as family friendly as it gets, but he saw it coming because he has a raunchy Vaudeville show but realized that TV was entering people's homes where respect was necessary. No one since has seen that. There's just more money in pandering than in performing so trash gets hired to make trash.
Not sure what's worst, this or the Brady bunch variety hour?
The news department went under massive changes in 1978
1) Roone Arledge was hired away from the sports division
2) A brand-new newscast was created, changing the name from "ABC Evening News" to "World News Tonight"
3) along with that came the return of Peter Jennings to the anchor desk
4) the famous four-note musical logo was born, and it was the answer to the NBC chimes; the four-note music logo still runs to this day.
Actually, Roone Arledge remained the head of the sports division while he overhauled the ABC News division.
Where's Adam West and Burt Ward on the stage
MIND FUCK !!!!
No, the biggest assembly of stars is called the universe. 😀
a nightmare I would prefer not to have had.
@CanadaguyRudey Which is sad. :-(
Where's Ernie Anderson? The voice of ABC.
so...where's Stallone?
What's Ed McMahon doing on an ABC special?
From 1957 to 1962, Ed was the announcer on the ABC game show, Who Do You Trust? Johnny Carson was also the host of that, which was the beginning of their association.
