    My 2nd comment. I'm really glad I watched!! I've been to the local coin shop, to buy my ounce of silver each month (if I have the extra money).
    While there I have seen "proof sets"! Without knowing anything about collecting except, wheat cents and silver! I wanted to buy my brother a proof set from his birth year 1966. Very coincidental that your having the giveaway on the same year. I didn't even think about that until after I typed the year. Anyway this guy (who's not all there in the head, which I noticed the 1st time I went in to get my 1st ounce of silver) He said that they didn't make any that year, well technically he's right but like you just showed me they have SMS! THANK YOU FOR THAT!! I looked for my birth year and they did have a proof set! So I put the bug in my daughter and mother's ear for potential b-day or Christmas gift 👍!! Also looked at one for my daughter, she's now hooked on collecting too! We both bought the Lincoln Memorial Books the cheap $3.00 ones! We've been filling those up slowly. We sit down for about 2 hours each night to look though my old change!! But what you are doing is helping my daughter and I bond even more than we already were!!!
    Thank You for all you do!!!! 💱🇺🇸👍

    I just watched your July 15th 2019 vid on 1960's Jefferson Nickels! I found it very interesting! I'm very new to "Coin Collecting"! I've been a hoarder of coins since I was 18, never spending or parting with any pocket change! Over the past couple of years I've been buying about 1oz. of silver each month when I have the extra money. However over the past 2 to 3 weeks I have got the bug of collecting! Well... going through my old coins and putting aside every coin that looks good!! Also did my first quarter roll hunt 10 days ago! To look for silver and mostly the 2019 W mint! I found one W mint on my 7th roll, YAY!!! Those coins from the hunt I'll have to bring back to the bank, since it was my bill money, ouch! I am putting aside several of the coins that stand out. From what I've learned by watching you. I found you guys by accident! It's a cool story, but long! This comments been long enough and I haven't even said what I 1st wanted to say! Uhg!
    Have a GREAT Day!!!!

    So if you find any coin through 1965-1967 with a mint mark they came from one of these sets? And would they have more value than face value?

    I purchased the 1964 1965 1966 & 1967...the coins are stunning. The 1964 & 1965 Lincoln Memorial Cent have full steps and still intact in the blue case. The 1966 & 1967 Jefferson Nickles have complete full steps. I haven't submitted to NGC or PCGS before and these are all still in the original plastic. What is a coin goddess like myself to do lol? I am pretty confident that the coins are mint state, they look unique and new especially the 1964 Lincoln cent. I have other proof and circulated coins I have compared the SMS Set coins up against.

    I believe i have a jefferson 1964 no mintmark nickel, uncirculated, satin like finish,square not rounded edges,deeper inset. I imported a set of hamilton mint presidents,first 38 presidents gold plated, to australia and upon opening the box i also found the 1964 nickel in a 2 x2 paper envelope and also a 1980 washington quarter circulated but very high grade, they have been sitting in my drawer for the last 20 years and only took them out to look after watching your show.i am mostly a silver collector so i am not really familiar with american coins, but from what i have seen my coin has all the attributes of being sms fs 1964 nickel

      Dee ann Hi Dee Ann , I'm wondering if you were ever able to understand why some of the coins are not in the cameo finish and some are ? I just received some "special mint" sets I'd bought on eBay . A 1965 , 1966 and 1967 . The '66 and '67 are in nice hard plastic cases and are in that gorgeous finish and the '65 is just in the cellophane plastic and the coins look NOTHING like a cameo finish . The penny in particular looks worse than those in a regular uncirculated mint set . Complete with carbon spots . If you understand why this is , I'd really appreciate any info . I'm SO disappointed as I was born in '65 and had wanted to have a cameo coin for that date . Forgive the long comment ! All The Best , Lisa

    Okay, I just watched this video and started my hunt for 1966 / 1967 sms. I now own a stack of both but what is questionable is I am sitting her with 6 brown envelopes dated 1964 P.C, also i have American Series lastly what appears to be a 1966 case with all 1964 coinage, Half, .25 and the .10 are all silver but the penny in 1964D. THE American Series same SMS coinage with the case appears to be intact. Forgot out of the 6 brown SMS envelopes I have 2 which are sealed and the content is unknown.

    I have quite a few mint sets, mint silver sets and mint proof sets. My original intention was to dismantle the sets and place the individual coins in the albums that I use in 2 x 2 holders. I would like your opinion on this. Are the sets more valuable if left intact?

    That mint set of coins you had all in plastic I heard it wasn't good to keep them that way because they would get a hazy and destroy the coins. I mean like over a long period of time. Is that true? Dave from Maine.

    Completely confused. Kennedy Half featured here graded SP67 for a 1965 when the Mint did not declare that these were Proof strikes?, Clearly I dont know enough about the cause of "deep Cameo" in the minting process. TYVM for piqued interest. I need to learn more, look again at the 60s SMS sets stored away.

    • @troodon1096
      @troodon1096 4 года назад

      They're not considered proofs unless they're struck at least twice, so none of the 65-67 SMS coins qualify as proofs. However the dies and planchets were specially prepared, and many of them in early die states show proof like qualities in the fields. A coin is considered "cameo" when it has a distinctive contrast between the devices and the fields (deep cameo is when it is a very high contrast).

      There were no proof sets minted in 1935. Proof sets were minted from 1858 to 1916, again from 1936 to 1942, yet again in 1950 to 1964, then 1968 to the present.

    JB If you where to have one of those sets with one deep cameo coin, would you leave it in the original holder and send all 5 coins to be graded or would PCGS want you to remove them? Myself I would feel better leaving them all together and let PCGS separate them. Another Very informative Video

      If you want the grading company to issue SMS designation, you need to leave them in original folder and sent the whole folder to them. You would need to indicate which coin/coins you want them to grade.
