I thought my screen was going crazy then I saw a recreation of the moon landing thanks for the idea with the hinge plates take your angle grinder and make a space for the hinge barrels to move where they are binding that looks like a strong hinge is that angle going to be OK to get. Your tractor or whatever is going on the trailer you could make a opposite opening section to make it longer a fold out two section ramp

make jogs in your hinge flats adjacent to where the non welded tube spins like a normal door hinge then they won't rub

When I hinge something like that i put a fender washer on each end or by each hinge as a spacer while welding, and it will lay flat every time
