I have really enjoyed the professional and honest review of this motorcycle. Refreshing and comprehensive views including the real practical and important details. Well done!
I've had mine for going on to two years now. During my last service, they gave me an R1250R as a loan bike, which is a bike I was considering upgrading to in the next year. Turns out it just didn't scratch the "fun" itch like my F900r does. I really let's you ride like a bit of an idiot without getting into trouble. I'm constantly just more and more impressed by it as time goes on.
Absolutely! This bike shows that power isn't the be all and end all when it comes to having fun. The 900 R definitely has an X factor to it that's hard to describe! Enjoy it!
How has the reliability been. I’m a bit nervous about BMW as a whole. I think the f900r is very aesthetically pleasing and symmetrical. I’m thinking about this bike or triumph street triple r or speed twin.
@@keltecdan it's been faultless for me. I live in Perth, Western Australia so lots of m riding takes me to the middle of nowhere. Reliablitly is a top priority for me because I don't want to get stuck. There's been nothing to give me any concerns.
Hi I have the F900R SE changing from a Gixxer thou and wanting something for the road I can have fun on without hitting silly speeds. I love this bike and it’s everything I ever wanted in a bike for the weekend hack out on the twisty roads. One thing you didn’t mention was how the front suspension is totally non adjustable but also amazing we’ll set up so you don’t need to adjust it. Nice review 👍
Thank you! Totally agree, it's like you just start having fun before the low fuel light sends you back to the fuel pumps. Other than that, its a proper little grin maker!
Range is my biggest complaint as an owner. But one note that everyone misses is that the F900R is the most fuel efficient bike in this category. Combine that with the fact that the MT-09 fuel capacity went down to 14L on the new model (specs in the table in the video are outdated), and you end up getting similar or better range on the F900R than on the close competitors.
Great review!! I looked at this video before I bought one in Concord, CA, USA. One question though....how come everyone is riding on the wrong side of the road?? LOL!!
Wow, Great Review, far the best i ever saw. Great Job, going to pick up my F900R next Friday. Coming from a CB650R. Looking forward to it. Greetings from Germany. Christian
Lovely review. Keep the reviews this comprehensive. I unsubbed from all other bike channels. A bit too much beating around the bush for me. You've won a sub. This bike looks like it has some reasonable ground clearance. I think that is important for African bikers.
I disagree with what is said in this video about the parallel twin engines being boring. These engines are the ones that have the most fun on the streets. I rode and owned many motorbikes over time and my favorites were always the twins it doesn't matter if they were V, boxer or parallels. Despite of the fact that they are cheaper and easier to own and to maintaine
I beg to differ...this bike is a great beginner bike...i got my A license with nearly zero experience before...i got this bike and its awesome...im growing into it day by day...the problem with small bikes is that you grow out of them quite quickly and in 2-3 weeks you need something bigger...i mean its crazy to jump on a superbike right after taking the test BUT this bike is a good baseline...high torgue, you dont need to rew it so much, handling is absolutly BRILLIANT, not too heavy etc...i mean, for me, this was the best choice i could ever make.
I actually have another issues with "beginner" bikes. Somehow, bike manufacturers think beginners are all midgets. For some reason. I'm not THAT tall (180cm), but I have long legs (86-87cm inseam) and long arms (184cm armspan) and all the "beginner" bikes feel like toys to me. My legs are cramped. I actually have cramps in my legs at times. It just doesn't work out for me. I know, I know, there are models like the kawasaki versys, but I just don't like that style of dual-sport/adventure bikes, or whatever it is. So when I hop on to a Yamaha MT03, or the G310 R, they're small. Anything below 81cm seat height is a no-go for me, even that feels low. So, what should I do? Get a bike I'm not comfortable on? Or just get a more powerful one? :) Also, doesn't this have rain mode? Can't this be limited to A2 for lower performance? I don't see why this would be a terrible beginner bike.. Does it surprise you in any way when you ride it? is it brutal?
It depends entirely on how much of a beginner you are. If this is the first motorcycle you've ever swung a leg over then no. I'd recommend starting on something smaller. If you are somewhat comfortable with motorcycles you should manage, provided you exercise due caution. In terms of height, our shortest rider stands at 5'4 and he managed just fine so I'd imagine you wouldn't have too many problems. Hope this helps! - Josh
@@MotoTribeTV it’s my first time, I never really ride an bike before. Was looking for an other hobby this year. Maybe I should try the 310 BMW instead ? That’s the lowest in the BMW list. I picked BMW cuz of the name and style of those bikes
I’m considering this bike to be my first ever bike too. Am I doing bad decision or what? I don’t want to start with g310 and a year later to sell it and buy f900r… I want all in one bike like this. And the plan is to ride it 3,4,5 years…
It's not a bad idea going for the 310 at all. Learn to ride a smaller bike well and then move up. You won't regret the skills and confidence you build up along the way!
"baby s1000r" is a strong statement. I owned the S for couple of year, then seller, and I'm looking for something "less"..they are very different really,, on every aspect. However great review, thanks.
Great review! This review address and answered a lot of questions directly. I was thinking that this bike was similar to or in competition with one of the lower level Ducati Monsters. Even the BMW T 1260 R. Also, it seems like it could be an all arounder since it looks comfortable. But, not a lot of highway miles but decent.
Thanks Paul, glad it was helpful! We do our best to give as much info as we possibly can and point people in the right direction, but the best way to asses a bike will always be to go for a test ride and see for yourself.

I love how they had to start talking about that seat. Holy crap, when is BMW gonna realize that they have to do something about they seat. When the commentator said: "the seat is not a plank of wood", he was being too kind
Having the R1200R I test rode a few bikes including this and the KTM 790. The quick shifter in the KTM is far superior to the BM and fuel economy is better.
Agreed, compared to quick shifters on other brands, the Beemers do tend to be lacking (apart from their in-line fours). We haven't had the pleasure of riding the KTM 790 though.
The F 900 R utilizes the BMW parallel twin engine layout. As far as seat height goes, the older F800 R had a slightly lower standard seat height of around 800mm as apposed to the 820mm of the new 900. Still very manageable but as always, BMW has a range of different seats in their catalog to suit taller or shorter riders.
Hi Gusy! I'm trying to find an owner for cross-checking my brand new F900R's assisted clutch which after repeated downshifting becomes really loose :( Is there anyone who can confirm his experience on the clutch of this bike? Would really appreciate your feedback, thanks!!
Have you checked out any F900R owners forums online? Alternatively, just check with your local dealer. If it's genuinely a problem, they should fix it for you especially since it's a brand new bike.
A quickshifter that should not the used in gears 1-3 (according to the BMW handbook) is not worthy of a BMW. It brings you from A to B, but for me, I completeley missed the fun-factor. After just one year I switched to the 2021 BMW S1000R and never looked back. In my opinion the S1000R is worth every penny it costs more than the F900R
Their in-line fours are incredible! It's just a pity that BMW can't get their quick shifters to work as well on the rest of their line up. Enjoy your new motorcycle! We can't wait to get our hands on the new updated S1000 R!
At least in my handbook (german and english version of 2022) I cant find a word about the 1st to 3rd gear usage of the quickshifter you said. I dont know if they updated the QS but it works quite well even on normal city speeds.
Hahaha lucky for us indeed and thanks for the kind words! Sorry to hear about you letting go of your R1 but maybe it's time to look into a lovely little German number...
It's very hard to say. People have circumnavigated the globe on scooters so anything is possible. But purely from a comfort standpoint, I think there are better options. - Josh
Yes, the seat is pretty hard but it's also the aggressive position the bike places you in. A naked BMW that might be a bit better in that regard would be something like the R 1250 R. Well worth checking out if you haven't.
Can someone please explain to me what that giant piece of plastic is that is mounted to the center of the handlebars ? It must have some purpose, but what a horrible place to put it. Right in front of the dash ?? Please can someone tell me what it is and if it can be removed ?
