    There are both determinate and non determinant potatoes - the Warba that Jordan grew as mentioned, is actually a determinant (early variety so not much skin) so he didn't have to hill them. Most seed potatoes that we can get are determinate.

    Potatoes are one of my favourite crops. Super easy. Provide a bunch of food. And did I mention they’re super easy?

    Great to see! Good points on growing Jordan. Your worm castings made my garden direct sow go from a B to a A+. My Marigolds first days were potted in them. I am stunned that the seedlings that all fit together in a 9' pot grew into enormous beautiful thriving bloom producing ...magnifacance...... the bush variety grew three feet tall🧑‍🌾👍 You sell black gold brother. I've tried other worm castings , I will always come back to you. Hopefully you will do your winter sale with consultation. I'll double down on worm castings grab a coco and chat with you again. I'm going to ask for a worm farm for Christmas to supplement my own. Thanks for teaching and gratitude for the spirit you bring. Deep bow Jordan!

    Hi,
    Thank you very much for all your fantastic tips. I planted potatoes and got attacked by bugs. What should I do differently this time? Also, I live in a very hot country and don't have a garage to store them after harvesting - any advise?Thanks once again. Augusta

    What about container potatoes? Can you use this same soil mix? I've had issues with root rot in other plants when I didn't use a container soil.
    My last two years of potatoes have been very sad, so I'm excited to try these changes this year!

    Hi Jordan, How, far apart should the potatoes be when planted

  • @fancyfilly8

    Great video! I'm wondering though why you're planting the potatoes whole. Is there a benefit to that--bigger plants vs cutting the seed potato into pieces with an eye each?

    • @MindandSoil
      @MindandSoil  10 месяцев назад

      Great question! Either way works, this way is guaranteed growth with there being multiple eyes in the soil. If you don't have an abundance of potatoes to plant whole, it's great to cut it up and use each eye :)

    I have all my seed potatoes ready - but now I like the idea of the staggered planting. Is there a way to keep the seed potatoes until June 1st and July 1st? I can start today with my May planting. But I am afraid the seed potatoes won't last until July and it will be hard to find them here at that time in Ontario

    I just throw them on top of the soil and cover them with lots of straw or hay and water really well. (This year I used twigs and needles thanks to hurricane Fiona.) I'll go back in the fall and harvest a nice clean crop. I find they need contact with soil but they don't need to be buried.

    I bought seed potatoes last year & they all sprouted quickly & planted out in May/early june as they were beginning to get moldy. Stores seemed to get sold out by April & i couldn’t stop the sprouting.
    Should the seed potatoes be kept in a cooler/darker space to prevent slower sprouting?
    Thank you Jordan

      @@julia1234 Amazing! So I think the peak of Summer would be a bit too or maybe too hot - so I would start some earlier on in the Spring, and then another crop towards the end of summer so they grow while it cools down. With that being said, the best way to learn is just by experimenting, so for this year you could plant say 5 Seed Potatoes in August, 5 more in October, and 5 more in February and then see how each of them do from a yield perspective - this is exactly how I learn everything I know from a gardening perspective :)
