Kia Seltos 2023 review | Fresh design and a price hike, but is this small SUV more competitive?

  • A mid-pack player in the hotly-contested Australian small SUV segment, Kia's Seltos goes up against some heavy-hitters.
MG's ZS leads the category ahead of the evergreen Mitsubishi ASX and rapidly rising Toyota Corolla Cross.
Fresh looks and a standard specification boost are aimed at pushing what has been a value-for-money special further up the leader board.
But sure enough, prices are up, too. So, the question is has Kia done enough to give its contender a fighting chance?
Richard Berry has tested the car at its Australian launch to determine whether it deserves to be added to your next new small SUV shopping list.

Too b ad the Australian market misses out on 360 and side mirror cameras, also missing is the shifter dial, and dash cam spot...Seems these points , especially the 360 cameras which are a very important safety feature are never mentioned in any reviews.

If would say this, if the halogens offend you, thats what the aftermarket is for, buy your own led bulbs, plus you have the added benefit of not paying for the pleasure of led bulbs every month. All in all id rather get a Jolion or a Scross, the Jolion for the most tech for the money(including LED's lol) or the Scross if i want awd. Both of those cars have a turbo as standard.

Have to disagree with his comment on the CTV, my wife has the 2 Lt sport plus and the way Kia has mimicked a standard auto with shift points is outstanding…unlike Honda/Mitsubishi CVT’s which feel like rubber band autos. Also the 2 Lt has a 15,000 km service interval compared to the 1.6 Lt turbo 10,000 km interval’s…living in the country and doing higher day to day Km make’s a big difference when it comes to the inconvenience of servicing we would need to do every 6 months with a 10,000 km service interval…all up my wife loves the car, and she’s not a “car person”

It annoys me for the NZ model we get Halogen Lights and features that aren't worth the price tag. I was going to pre-order the LX+ Urban model, but when reading the features....it's so "basic" and the total cost for it (including ORC) is just under $34,000. $3000 of it is for accessories and I'm assuming it's for the collision avoidance assist and smart cruise control and a few others. Even the key is standard. I'm reconsidering ordering this vehicle as it's not worth the money you pay because if you want something with more tech and specs...that'll be an extra $10,000+

If this Seltos GT line cost you 50K. Will you buy Seltos over Kia Sportage SX+ DCT for 48K? Or would you rather upgrade Kia Sportage GT Line that comes with Panoramic sun roof and all the extras safety tech features included and bigger size than Seltos for 54K which cost u 4k more than Seltos GT? I think the Seltos GT is way over prices!

If you are thinking about buying a new Seltos I'd suggest you hold off until they fix the overspeed warning - it's absolutely infuriating, and it is not a quick process to turn it off every time you start the car. Ridiculous feature that if I knew how bad it was I would not have bought the car.

Why has no one mentioned the obnoxious overspeed warning that alarms every time you go a few klms over the speed limit! Then you go into the cars settings (press around 4 buttons) turn it off, and then every time you turn the ignition off that warning alarm defaults back to on!!! Dealbreaker! Sorry but this is safety gone stupid! So annoying, otherwise a great little car and I would have gladly bought it!

And he didn't once mention how ANNOYING the car is, I have had one as a rental for three weeks and can't wait to hand it back.
Speed limit recognition is obtrusive, I had my cruise set at the limit, up hill it went 2km over and then I get the chimes,
It Bings and Bongs ALL THE TIME but never actually tells you why its binging or bonging.
Its a shame, It is fundamentally a good car but the safety aids take it from a solid 8.5/10 to a 4.5/10 to me.
